War Plan Red (AH, OOC and Open)

Postby SUNTHREIT » Sat Jun 25, 2016 6:56 pm

"[The Entente] was likely to be an unnatural union. The common enemy has been defeated; the alliance for war practically dissolved."
- General Tasker H. Bliss, 1929

History is about to be written. It is the 10th of March, 1938; Snow melts in the Canadian spring, geese fly north toward their nesting grounds and the creatures of the forest awaken from hibernation. The cycle of nature continues on unchanged, as it has for aeons. This spring, however, it shall be accompanied by another cycle- the cycle of human events, of human history. Where the birds sing their songs will soon also be where thousands of men sound their battle cries, firing their rifles and charging at the enemy. The Republic and the Empire, the two greatest nations on Earth, will be pushed together as if by fate into glorious war. The lines and plans of this struggle have already been laid out before the generals and commanders- the only thing yet to be written is the outcome. However, it soon shall be...

The 10th of March, 1938 is a date which will live in infamy. Led by Huey Long, 32nd President of the United States of America, Congress has sent a formal declaration of war to the British Empire and all of her Dominions. The US army shall be officially mobilised, although it has already been mobilised to some extent since the Fall of last year (When the tragic Fundy Bay incident caused the deaths of two-hundred Canadian navymen and almost as many Americans). Canada, the western pearl of the British Empire, will be first nation to hear the sound of American gunfire as tension turns to total war.

The American military-industrial complex is in on the war too- after the very mixed results of President Long's "Share our Wealth" program, war may be a welcome relief to the sluggishness of America's depression-era economy. Even Long, despite being the prideful man he is, reluctantly accepts this as truth.

In London, the Britons are shocked but not surprised by the American declaration. Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and others argue that the Empire is not ready for war at this moment in time, causing significant panic in the House of Parliament. This low level of war-readiness, coupled with the small size of the Canadian army (who will be forced to fight the first battles of the war), means that Great Britain must go on the defensive against the American menace. Britain scrambles to her allies Japan and France, asking them for aid in this new war. Should they accept, it is reasonable to assume that another Great War has started.

Japan, unlike the British, only have minor tensions with the United States due to the republic's Pacific posesions. Huey Long's blunt but isolationist diplomacy has been surprisingly effective at suppressing tensions with the Japanese, even as the Emperor's men march into Kuomintang-held China through Manchuria. However, it is very possible that the Japanese may honour Britain's call and open up a theater in the Pacific. France, being one of Britain's most steadfast allies since the creation of the Triple Entente, is a certain combatant.

In Europe, German Chancellor and Führer Adolf Hitler seems poised to restore his country's pre-WW1 glory. Austria is being heavily pressured to enter the Reich; the Western democracies don't know it yet, but in exactly two days the Wehrmacht will march into the country and annex it. Other, already-achieved instances of German saber-rattling include the remilitarisation of the Rhineland and the cutting of economic ties with the West. The French in particular are terrified of this, given that under the Hitler's government Germany has become both able and willing to fight the French. Britain is slightly less alarmed but still quite concerned, with Chamberlain trying his hardest to appease the German dictator. Hitler is also becoming increasingly friendly with the Japanese, who may soon find themselves torn between supporting the British and supporting the Germans.

The stage is set for war. Let the battle cry of freedom ring! God save the queen!

Some OOC stuff you should read

Welcome to War Plan Red, an alternate history roleplay where a more arrogant United States ends up going to war with the British Empire. The RP's name comes from a 1920s War Plan detailing what would happen should the Brits and the Americans go to war- feel free to use it for your tactics if you're playing as America! Being a war RP, you should know three things-

-The first is that it's 3 parts writing a good story and 1 part competition! Don't treat the RP like a complete competition or your fellow RPers will find you irritating. But please do try to get the upper hand by utilising strategy with what you have (say, flanking American troops in Canada after they've entered the St. Lawrence River Valley). Be smart, don't be a wanker.

-The second is that you should never shy away from the battle! In many nation RPs everyone seems hesitant to declare war, but war has already been declared. Go in there! Win or loss, you've taught the enemy a lesson in the end!

-Thirdly, you don't have to make your posts exceptionally pretty. I expect some level of skill in writing, but much of this RP will come down to news report-like stuff about troop movements.

Also, I expect frequent, dedicated posting if you play as a nation central to the plot of the RP (Germany, America, Japan, Britain, Maybe Russia, Maybe Italy, etc). If you don't feel so confident in your ability to post frequently, try Romania or Bulgaria or France or some other, less central nation. Also, don't feel what I've said in the OP confines what you can RP in other parts of the world. Why not play as the Republic of China and fight those damn Japs? Maybe the Aussies and the Japanese are jointly assaulting Hawaii. Maybe Brazil has gone expansionist and is invading Uruguay. Who knows? Keep things close to OTL, but if you want to make a change to something with a POD in the 1920s-1930s that doesn't contradict the OP go ahead. Just remember this RP is realistic.

Oh, and time in this RP goes along at its own pace. A page doesn't mean anything, the posts do. If Joe Blough is playing America and posts a six day offensive and some other guy makes a two day counter-offensive, that's eight days. Try to keep days orderly.

Feel free to telegram me and other players to keep things smooth. We can use group telegrams or chatzy if need be.

Now here's the rules-
- If you shit up the thread and I tell you to leave you do it
- Don't spam or godmod or make godawful posts
- I don't care if you call me a shitcunt but the mods might, so keep that in mind.
- Try to be civil, you can get a lil cheeky but don't make the thread baltimore

I'm cool with it as long as you can explain it.
And by Dutch Pacific Territories do you mean the East Indies or some Pacific Islands? The former might be a bit of a stretch but we'll see.

yep

Denmark keeping Norway is simple enough. Denmark just plain didn't join Napoleon during the Napoleonic wars and therefore would not have lost and be in a position to lose Norway to Sweden.

By Pacific Territories I meant the East Indies. I understand it's a stretch, but I thought if Denmark had joined the British during the Anglo-Dutch wars, they might be rewarded with some of the Netherland's former colonial territories.

It's fine if I can't, I'll just use the Netherlands itself instead.

Yeah, with PODs that far back it might be best to use the Netherlands.
Cool idea though.

Basics

NS nation name/nicknames: WPT, Gray Guy
Your RP nation of choice: Japan (AKA Japanese Empire)
Your main objective in this war (if you're at war): Finish off the Chinese for good, industrialize until mid-1941 (if I'm done by then), stage unexpected attack at Pearl Harbor, begin hunting for carriers, if they weren't sunk at Pearl, sink them, commence landing operations on US owned islands in the Pacific, meanwhile, while that's occurring stage a invasion of the Philippines, get senpai to notice me (joke)

1-10 ratings!

Technological Advancement: 6. We don't have very much in the way of infantry weapons, but excellent innovations are being made in the Navy and Air-Force.
Populace Loyalty: ) 8. The Chinese don't exactly like us, but we have units stationed to quell uprisings and the Japanese people themselves are completely behind their Emperor, and show undying loyalty.
Initial War Readiness: 9, We've been at war with China for awhile now, and Plan No. 7 (That's just what I'm calling the Japanese plans for war against the United States) has been prepared for, the US is the only real threat to Japanese domination in the Pacific.
Resource Availability: I'd say a 6. I'm not a super duper expert in this stuff but assuming the U.S. hasn't oil-embargoed me, I might say the Japanese aren't really lacking any important materials, but not flowing in resources.

Number-crunching and bean-counting

Estimated GDP: $7.49 billion GDP
Population: 72,380,230
Total Number of Active (Mobilised) Soldiers: 1,700,000.

Number of Ships (preferrably with types):
Battleships:
  • 4 - Kongo Class
  • 2 - Fuso Class
  • 2 - Ise Class
