[US Election 2016] Democratic Primary Megathread III

Postby Farnhamia » Thu Apr 21, 2016 11:25 am

Yumyumsuppertime wrote:Who do you support for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Presidency? While Clinton seems a prohibitive favorite, Martin O'Malley and Jim Webb (one of whom has declared and the other of whom has expressed interest) provide experience and non-threatening moderate viewpoints to those suffering from Clinton fatigue, and Sanders has supporters who make up for in vigor and passion what they lack in numbers. I don't think that Biden is going to declare, but he's in the poll anyway, and while I like Chafee, I'm honestly confused as to what he thinks he's going to accomplish with this.

Me? I'm Sanders all the way, though if Clinton gets the nomination, I'll almost certainly vote for her against any of the GOP candidates.

What are your thoughts?

You know I'm fine with Sanders supporters challenging the DNC and trying to get the base to become more influential. But it should wait until after the election ya know?

I mean, it's hard to take your progressiveness as being genuine when you're literally condemning the most vulnerable to at least 4 years of constant shit pouring on them, more shit than what is already poured on them, by trying to ensure a GOP win in November.

And frankly if the GOP wins the supreme court will go 5/4 until the next justice retires, and frankly the next to go is likely going to be a liberal. By the time the democrats got the presidency back it could be 6/3 and impossible to regain for years or decades. How the hell that's meant to serve a progressive agenda is beyond me.

But numbers don't matter unless they can be used to mock Bernie supporters, amirite?

Open and Hybrid Primaries:

Clinton
South Carolina
Alabama
Arkansas
Tennessee
Texas
Virginia
Mississippi
Illinois
Missouri
North Carolina
Ohio

Sanders

Vermont
New Hampshire
Oklahoma
Michigan
Wisconsin

It would be harder to mock if Sanders supporters weren't just making up numbers.

Would you take a schoolteacher's strike in the middle of July seriously? If the pressure isn't on when it's important, then there's no point in the pressure being on in the first place.

It's not. That's why those saying BernieOrBust shouldn't be thought of as assisting progressives in any form.

I dunno, that's what the Tea Party did. They started with congress not nominees during an election year. I'll also add there is a SCOTUS position up for grabs. A GOP victory will see what progress has been made be repealed. BernieOrBust is dangerous for the progressive movement and tens of millions of Americans.

5/4 is best case scenario. Three of the current Justices are in or pushing their 80's, and they're all the 'liberal' ones. Bernie Bros, in their desire to punish the mean old Clintonites and 'the establishment' could very easily give us a generation with a 6 or 7 conservative majority on the bench.

I find it hard to imagine a court with that kind of ideological bent would allow any laws passed by a liberal congress to stand.

You'd do well to remember that Clinton isn't entitled to any votes. If she's too right wing for people, that's her fault.

Oh for fuck's sake Hillary is not remotely right wing unless you're in Europe.

Getting tired of having to link this damn article. Hillary was more liberal than 85% of all Democrats during her tenure in the senate. She's a liberal as Warren.

To be expected, probably. Given the grievances both groups have, and how long the race has been going on for (so more people get invested in the result, and get frustrated at the other side), it wasn't going to be cordial forever.

It's remarkable how quickly Bernie fans are taking notes from the Tea Party.

Hey, remember how John Boehner was a raging liberal who gave Obama and the Democrats everything we ever wanted? I still send him Christmas cards to thank him.

I was reading just the other day how Kasich is some kind of super liberal and Hillary is likely to pick him for VP.

It would be harder to mock if Sanders supporters weren't just making up numbers.

And in most of those, Sanders got more of the Independent vote than the Dem vote.

So basically, you said absolutely nothing of value and are just reinforcing my point. The state matters way more than what kind of system they use, and if New York was an open primary, Bernie might have squeezed out a victory since the demographics an open primary allows in tilt towards him.

But hey, good job at showing you can make lists. I'm real proud of you.

You know I'd be a lot nicer to Bernie supporters if every other sentence out of their mouths for months hasn't been an implied threat. At this point, fuck 'em. Stay home, vote Trump I really don't give a fuck. I'm sick of walking on eggshells to avoid offending their precious sensibilities. I used to be on Bernie's side, I'm not anymore. Good job Bernie supporters. I hope he crashes and burns, I hope he gets goddamn crushed. If by some perverse miracle he would win the nomination I sure as fuck wouldn't vote for him at this point. I was giddy when I saw the NY numbers. I hope he get slaughtered next Tuesday.

Fun fact, Bernie still rates higher on isidewith.com for me than Hillary but I hate his ass now. So please continue the snide little threats, I don't give a shit.

Considering that we've been told that our votes don't really matter and we should all just fall in line with Hillary? We're intent on showing our votes do matter.
