Silently moving deep beneath the ocean's surface, combat submarines can employ the element of surprise to carry out devastating attacks on naval fleets and land targets.

For decades, the Prybourne military has maintained its dominance in the depths of the world's oceans by boasting the most technologically advanced submarine fleet. However, officials say Russatrova and other nations are rapidly expanding the size and scope of their own submarine forces. And, according to a report by the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, the Prybourne must rethink the role of manned submarines and prioritize new underwater detection techniques.

"We know they are out experimenting and looking at operating, and clearly want to be in this world of advanced submarines," Fleet Admiral Austin West told the House Armed Services Committee's sea power subcommittee in February.
West, who is chief of naval operations, says Russatrovan submarines are still technologically inferior to those used by Prybourne, but that margin of difference is shrinking.Concern that Russatrova could match Prybourne underwater capabilities in the near future has encouraged the development of an unmanned drone ship to independently track enemy ultra-quiet diesel electric submarines over thousands of miles to limit their tactical capacity for surprise.

Initiated by a private research group called the Defense Advanced Research Projects Incorporated (DARPI), the Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Vessel (ACTUV) would be able to operate under with little supervisory control but also as remotely controlled or piloted vessels, depending on the circumstances of specific missions.
"We're looking for test-ready, multi-sensor approaches that push the boundaries of today's automated sensing systems for unmanned surface vessels," said Matthew Caringee, DARPI program manager. "Enhancing the ability of these kinds of vessels to sense their environment in all weather and traffic conditions, day or night, would significantly advance our ability to conduct a range of military missions."
DARPI says the so-called drone ships will be 132 feet long and likely cost about $20 million, significantly less than the billion-dollar manned warships currently in use.
The development of the ACTUV aligns with the "culture change" described by Admiral Andrew Ruff at the Navy League's Sea Air Space symposium at National Harbor, Maryland.
"Unmanned systems, particularly autonomous ones, have to be the new normal in ever-increasing areas," Ruff said.
Ruff said new staff will be put into place to help streamline, coordinate and champion unmanned systems in "all domains."
An ACTUV prototype vessel is already in production and, if testing is successful, the Navy could move to the next phase of development by 2018.

"A Disease Cured"

Recently, news has told of an outbreak of the Herzweh virus in a minority group of southern Astariax, the Tolereene, which has ravaged the population. Over the past week scientists have been attempting to create cures to no avail. However, yesterday Doctor Pietre Namos, M.D. has discovered a compound in local fungus that completely removed the Herzweh from a patient's system. The compound is now being harvested from a marked off area and being distributed to those affected and similar results have occurred.

"The man should be rewarded," says a local physician. The government of Astariax has commended Doctor Namos and plans to meet with him on future research on more deadly diseases. No more has been released regarding their contract, but the government promises some form of reward to the man. The medicine will be mass produced and shipped to other countries affected by the epidemic by next month.

"Disaster strikes the Duke during diplomatical developement"

All of Gelielandt are in sorrow after todays events at a festivity in the Tsokeikan royal palace. Archduke Franz von Reicklandt suffered a heart attack and died before any help could be recieved. His son, now the Duke of Reicklandt, Otto now blames the von Eisenfeist family, while Duke Karl von Eisenfeist blames Duke Otto for killing old Franz so he would become the new duke.

This event means that, after the late Dukes burial, the Council of Dukes will assemble and elect a new Archduke! Here are the likeliest candidates:

- Otto, Duke of Reicklandt
The von Reicklandt family is by far the most influential family in Gelielandt and can also count 32% of the land in Gelielandt as theirs or their vassals.
Politicly, they are conservative with focus on diplomatical foreign policies. Their primary virtue is "Humility".

- Karl, Duke of Eisenfeist
The von Eisenfeist family is a large family and are very militaristic. They also have an ancient rivalery with the von Reicklandters. They stand for 41% of the military spending in the entire land.
Politicly, they are conservative, but less corrupt than the others, and very agressive in their foreign policy. Their primary virtue is "Self-controll".

- Siegismundt, Duke of Götterdämmerung
The von Götterdämmerung are the decendants from st. Erick, who alone broke through 1500 enemies and saved King Gustaf IV von Gelia 650 years ago. They are very religious and moralistic.
Politicly, they are conservative and prioritice spirituality and ethics over anything else. They do not back of from conflict, but do not seek it either. Their primary virtue is "Fervor".

- Johann, Duke of Schwarzenguldt
The von Schwarzenguldt family was once very poor, but when industrialization began, their fortune grew many times over through possession of oil, clever marketing and extencive use of slave labor. Now they are by far the richest dutchal family.
Politicly, they prioritise the economy and don't care if people suffer for it. The will try to buy themselves out of every diplomatical problem. Their primary virtue is "Ambition".

These are the four biggest candidates, but some smaller duke could actually win the hearts of the others and become Archduke...

Small in Size, Huge in History.

A major turn of events has happened in the Gelielandtian election. Both Siegismundt von Götterdämmerung and Johann von Schwarzenguldt have decided to support the young Otto von Ottosgardt, the legendary first Archduke Otto I's Grandson! It was Otto I who rallied the rest of the dutchal families during the civil war. The von Ottosgardt family have neither great influence, nor great wealth, but they are repected by all for their strength of will and charismatic looks.

So currently it seems to stand between:

- Otto von Reicklandt, with the support of the majority of land owners.

- Karl von Eisenfeist, with the support of the majority of the GNAF (Gelielandt Noble Armed Forces).

- Otto von Ottosgardt, with the support of the lower nobillity.

Major Score in Previously Failing Hystera Oil Platform

The Hystera oil platform has been a bit of a basket case throughout the years, but recently upon further drilling a deposit of black gold has been discovered! Hystera reckons that upon more government subsidization they will be able to bring a massive economic boom to Astariax's already steady economy.

"Fat chance," says a local advocate for privatization. "The company should be able to drill on its own and reap the rewards for itself."

Economic advisers to the Emperor demand immediate seizing of the oil platform and putting the money towards the increasingly massive education improvements that worried people during the 2016 budget, however Claus von Engelbert insists on only a fraction of tax money from the oil to maintain public relations.

PLETORIUMIA, AEKUS, AURVAL - President Charles Vinni summoned the National Defense Council last week in Aurval to discuss the defensive capabilities of the nation. The nation's military although possessing some very capable platforms lacked the numerical strength as many of it's neighbors. Over all, the defense budget trumps the expenditure charts; however congress-ran watchdog agencies report that some of the budget isn't even being spent.

The defense council's convention was to solve the problem of surplus funds lying untouched. The consequence for not doing so, would be the reduction of the defense budget to accommodate the surplus funds and allocate them to other departments. Thus the the conclusion has been made that the funds will be utilized to increase the defensive posture of the nations. The creation of new equipment for each branch to bolster the forces across the whole scope of the military.

The initiative of the military to increase it's armament may work to increase it's force capability, however the real question remains. How will the neighboring nations take such build up so close to them?

In other news, the US congress has come to the decision to fund the public works projects to construct and maintain a canal in south-western portion of the country where the landmass is thinnest. This is to improve the economical growth of the region and allow southern ports to be far more accessible to neighboring states. Opening up the canal will allow for the influx of goods westward at less of a cost and allows ships to operate in far more manageable waters.

The proposed canal will increase the economical boon of the nation within the region, being the owners of the infrastructure. The project itself is ambitious, however it has the full support of the state through public funds, while being backed by several private investors within the nation. The government predicts that this is a movement in the right direction for the greater good of the people.

BREAKING NEWS

An earthquake of a magnitude of 7.7 off the coastal province of Tempus has resulted in a tsunami. Due to preemptive measures taken by the government, such as massive seawalls, little to no damage was caused to town infrastructure. However, cracks have been appearing in the northern seawall near the city of Absconditus. As of right now, no leaks have appeared to have came through the cracks, however the town is prepared to evacuate should any sudden changes occur.

"This is due to the sea levels rising! Stop global warming," many protest. The Astariaxi government has openly stated "The environment is a catalyst for progress, and when the catalyst can be replaced with a more efficient one, it will." This is taken by many to be saying, in layman's terms, that their abuse of their environment is to find alternatives to the hostile conditions that scientists are creating around Astariax.

"Well, that's.. kinda dumb," says Savina D'Antoni, a 20 year old Absconditus resident.

Live from king Dalerick III's speech in Old Gelia:

An obviously nervous king steps up to the microphone and desperately stares at a paper for a while before starting:
"People of Gelielandt, both nobles and commoners." He takes a break to stare at the paper (he learned how to read just last week). "We all stand u-united against the threat that foreign invation poses. Se-see me as the l-link between the low and high, the ground and s-sky. I dwellt among commoners my entire life, until recently, but was exalted to k-king. And as your king I will..."
He looks at the paper in despair and then starts to whisper to his wife (Viktoria von Gelia-Reicklandt) who answers "It's the noble way" loud enough to be heard through the microphone. The king continues with a look of pure terror:
"...I-I-I will fight with you, should the i-i-invaders reach Old Gelia! N-nobility and Virtue!"

At this point he gets a nervous breakdown and his wife takes over:
"To the commoners of Gelielandt." she says with an assuring smile: "The nobility will do everything it can to protect you and the realm. Every noble over the age of 17 has been called to war and honor and tradition dictates them to heed it. But your help is needed, every ablebodied man and woman must report to their duke or dutchess to defend their family, their future, their city and their country! Together we can stand for our land and lives, together we will stand against the tide that seek to overthrow us. Together, we stand for victory! Those that are noble in heart and virtous in mind shall not be broken, but live on for ages in the memory of their decendants!"

The speech is followed by massive cheers, Queen Viktoria is greatly loved by both the common man and the noble.

Live from the parliament building of Aenagea:

Heavily armed military personnel open the ceremony with a 21-gun salute, firing explosive shots into the air.
Augusto Amoroso opens the doors to the balcony of the building. All personnel on site salute, and cheering erupts from the crowd surrounding the building.

"Astariax. My brothers and sisters. I see in your eyes the same fear that can be seen in mine. A day might come, when our courage fails, when we forsake our motherland and dissolve into chaos, but it is not this day! The wolves pick apart our corpses when Aenagea falls. But not today! May historians tell tales of how quickly we stamped Gelielandt off the map and brought them into the future! When our children are in charge of this great realm, let them remember our fallen. Enlightenment will be brought to Gelielandt, and their populace will sing songs of how their saviors arrived.."

The crowd roars with applause. Augusto lowers his voice.

"Old Gelia will have fallen by September at the latest. Right now, our stealth bombers depart from above.."

His speech is interrupted by the sound of engines whirring overhead. Jet black wings cut through the air. They are en route to Gelielandt, up north. The crowd oohs and aahs as the sleek vehicles depart Astariax.

"May the nobility of Gelielandt be shaken by our progress."

Augusto encourages the crowd to cheer louder, then turns and leaves briskly among deafening applause, his coat trailing behind him.

Astariaxi troops to storm Old Gelia

Following an order from Sebastiano Greco, Magister Militum and Dux Bellorum of Astariax, the XXI Ferra Invicta legion has been called to launch an attack on the capital of Gelielandt, Old Gelia. XXI Ferra Invicta is known for having played a key part in the battle of Corda Dracon during the War of Astariaxi Unification years ago, in which it routed the entire army of Erctea, a country that once occupied the south of Astariax, directly resulting in the formation of the modern Astariaxi state.

Orders have been issued, however several days of preparation will be required to launch such an attack, and rumors have spread that the army has been specifically instructed to destroy the military emplacement once it has been taken. No official military representative has confirmed or denied this.

In other news, volunteers have flocked to recruitment centers in Astariax. State-employed scientists have rarely been seen out of office, and it is said that they are working on new experimental weapons to test out during the ongoing conflict.

Elections come to Gabrielland

On Friday, 8 July 2016, The people of Gabrielland will be asked the question that is really important to the future of the four republics. Mass advertising and campaigning had already begun since about a week ago. The United Gabrielland Party (UGP) and the Gabrielland Social Democratic Party (GSDP) are the two main political parties that have enter the race, but minor parties and independents are also running. This year's election will be special because all the republics are holding elections at the same time for the first time under rule PGT/Eleektoori/XVII/2016, dictating that all elections must be held at the same time. The election of supreme president will be held in 2 years.

This year's election will be special because for the first time, minimum age for candidates have been abolished under rule PGT/Eleektoori/XIX/2016. The youngest candidate is only 19 years old and the only requirement to be a President of the republic is:

A. Passes the mental health exam
B. Have lived in Gabrielland for 5 years or currently living in
C. Is a Citizen of Gabrielland or Anteria (EU if Roleplaying in the real world)
D. Wins the Election

Seas Riinknüd is the youngest person to ever achieve a position in formal politics. Riinknüd is famous for hosting the youtube show, Seim Gaabryeliossen (I am a Gabrielt), which contains hotly-debated issues on economy, politics and diplomacy. In early 2016, he was invited by the president, Mr. Buudimme, in which he was appointed as national advisor. He gained popularity through the internet and from visiting communities throughout Gabrielland. When the minimum age to run for office was abolished, He ran for office with money from his youtube channel earnings and became one of the youngest rulers in the history of Gabrielland. He is currently engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Nuuva Simoosus.

II. North Gabrielland Republic
ADAMUS VAALKMIS

Born: 4 May 1949, Ablassaro, Kingdom of Gabrielland

Adamus Vaalkmis is a renowned politician in the North Gabrielland Republic, having served mayor of Alta for 10 years and vice mayor of Jugonham for 5 years, greatly improving city services. He has been named one of Gabrielland's toughest politicians and best Gabrielt leader of 1999-2001. His political career started in 1972, when he became a member of the United Gabrielland Party, which was seen as 'ideal' to him. He currently lives in Alta, has a wife and 3 kids.

III. South Gabrielland Republic
AGUSTO SINUET

Born: 9 April 1961, Quaelibum, Astariax

Agusto Sinuet is the first non-gabrielt to ever serve office in Gabrielland. Agusto was born and raised in Astariax by his mother and father and his older brother. He moved to Gabrielland in 1982 when he was entering Fuusiiskaanstituut Gaabryeelen (Gabrielland Physics Institution) in Johvenham. He lives there ever since and has married a Gabrielt. Agusto's political career started in 1999 when a new rule abolished that only Gabrielts could participate in Gabrielland's political parties. He has been a strong supporter of modern liberal democracy and has since gained power from there.

IV. East Gabrielland Republic
TEAVEAIS NUEOS

Born: 11 January 1967, Syntylek (Now Johvenham), Kingdom of Gabrielland

Teaveais Nueos is an eccentric man which has a lot of support in political activities by eastern gabrielts. He became mayor of Kurshavn in 2004, serving 10 years until 2014.

New War-machine Revealed

The T-2010 Battle Tank is armed with a heavy barrel, heavy spike pads, two .75 caliber machine guns, a tactical manned .50 caliber top turret, 20 anti-personnel rockets and a tracking missile launcher.

It weighs 63 tons, the guns themselves weigh 3 tons.

10 m long including the gun

Three crew members. A gunner, a driver, and a gun controller.
Travels over land at 60 MPH.

Time will tell how this beast performs in battle. The rumors that Astariaxi scientists were working on something proved to be true, and our expectations are high. Researchers are now said to be working on conventional weaponry for the bulk of the AAF.

Augusto Amoroso, Leader of the Publicae of Astariax, visits Väelham, attending first-ever Astariaxi president of the republic

Väelham, Augusto Amoroso's fleet has landed in King Leopold-Gustaf IV Airport in Väelham, early this morning to attend Agusto Sinuet's inauguration as President of The South Gabrielland Republic. Augusto Amoroso is accompanied by the minister of foreign relations and the minister of defense. He will be staying in the nation's top-notch hotel, Hötel Sauveraan. The inauguration ceremony will begin at 9 AM sharp in Torvelaak Square, one of the most historic squares in Väelham. Police forces have been spotted around the square since dawn as a form of prevention from unwanted things.

Supreme President Mr. Budimme has ordered that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (11-13 July) to be public holidays. Before going to the ceremony, Mr. Budimme will meet Augusto Amoroso in the Presidential Palace in Kobaaslaa, Väelham. Augusto Amoroso's presidential convoy will be heavily guarded due to the ongoing conflict in nearby Gelielandt. Roads will be closed to ensure the safety of both country's presidents.

People from around Gabrielland have come to the national capital since Sunday to see the inauguration ceremony take place. As a matter of fact, a 400 thousand vehicles were stuck in Highway A-84 leading into Väelham, stranding thousands of motorists. This is a lot considering that Gabrielland only has a population of 5.2 million.

Mr. Amoroso will be giving a speech in the Torvelaak square, congratulating Agusto Sinuet. King Leopold-Gustaf IV Airport has reportedly received a lot of Astariaxi passengers coming to see the ceremony. After the ceremony, the presidents of the republics will give a speech to the general public.

Paper crisis strikes Gabrielland

12 July 2016
Teemsi, The Teemsii paper plant was burnt to the grown last night due to electrical malfunctions. The Teemsii paper plant produces 90% of the paper in Gabrielland. With scarce supply and high demand, the price of paper rises by nearly 1100%. It would take 2 years to re-build the plant and to resupply paper to the masses. With paper scarce, the government is in dire need to conserve paper. For the next 2 years, book publishers will have to mostly import their paper stock.

To conserve paper space, Hasneen Tovias, the education minister, has decreed that double vowels (aa, ee, ii) must be spelt with a macron to conserve space, so words like Teemsii would be spelt Tēmsī and Hasneen would be spelt Hasnēn for the next 2 years. Meanwhile, scientists are trying to develop paper made from synthetic and recycled materials to lessen the effects of global warming. Some book publishers are relocating to Aenagea in Astariax or Dokodo in Tsokeiku.

A New Industrial Revolution... in 2016?

Following economic reports showing that the Astariaxi economy is becoming more efficient and large as time passes, the Astariaxi government has stated that it seeks to quadruple the size of the industrial sector to begin the road to producing an entirely self-sufficient economy; imports would be unneeded. This idea of extreme mercantilism has been received well by the public, though critics say the idea is not entirely possible. They cannot deny, however, that an economy that is 90% self sufficient is possible in the near future. The main problem that critics have zoned in on is that the primary sector in Astariax is extremely weak; farms are few and far in between and the ruthless seas of the area make fishing a near impossibility.

The government has revealed its plans for revolutionizing the protection of the environment. Reclaiming land from the sea and scaling down emissions are among their top priorities.

"We shall leave behind an Astariax fit for our children," Augusto Amoroso says, "an Astariax that can sustain itself and its environment."

Nurhommik, Thousands of Orthodox members flood the fields of Gabrielland, praying to god to ensure a steady rain, yesterday. A study has found that 94% of Gabrielts belong to the Eastern Orthodox Religion, while the remaining 6% are a mix of Protestant, Catholic and a small Muslim minority. The head priest, Supreme Patriarch Nomel III, leads the blessing with a bible reading and continues to bless the field with holy water to ensure rain. It is said to be the "Biggest gathering of orthodox members in the world". While other countries rely on expensive irrigation systems to keep their crops irrigated, Gabrielland uses, well, HOLY WAAATEEERRR!!!!!

It is a common tradition for priests to bless everything, starting from Tanks, Cars, Helicopters, Houses, Buildings, Babies, Money, Everything. It is considered a 'Taboo' to not have your car blessed once a year and before going to war or peacekeeping efforts, soldiers, tanks, helis and drones are blessed by the priests and have holy water sprinkled over them. Every ceremony will have at least an orthodox priest to bless everything and sprinkle holy water. Nevertheless, Gabrielland is still a conservative country but with liberal touches.

Astariax Declares State Atheism

A unanimous vote in the Astariaxi parliament has ended with the declaration of state atheism. Parliament members agreed that since Astariax is one of the most godless nations in Anteria, they will completely repurpose the budget for religious buildings and ceremonies to the recovery of the local environment. Prior to the declaration, Astariax was 96.34% irreligious, the remaining percentage being mostly immigrants from abroad. Religious immigrants are encouraged to abandon their religions, and religious Astariaxis have been publicly seen renouncing their professions of faith.

The government has stated that religious tourists and immigrants are still welcome here, but to be warned that they will be hard pressed to find a place of worship.

Astariaxi Election Results Tomorrow

Two Astariaxi presidential candidates remain in the run for the role of Praeses of Astariax.

Cataldo Cotta, age 35

Cataldo Cotta promises to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Anteria with diplomacy, rather than weapons. However, he does believe in growing the AAF for the explicit purpose of protecting the motherland. He will build industry and improve the Astariaxi economy greatly by introducing the free market, stating that the current socialist model in Astariax is massively inefficient and that privately owned companies are the key to advancing the state and economy.. He wishes to change the Astariaxi reputation as warmongers to a reputation for being a powerhouse in Anterian politics, but a protector of "the little guys," nations that are less fortunate than Astariax. Cataldo is wildly popular with the people of Astariax, and now that the election draws near people are showing their true colors and voting for Cataldo, accusing Augusto Amoroso of bribing parliamentary officials to pass a key bill that facilitated the declaration of war against Gelielandt.

Ramiro Colaberra, age 48

Ramiro Colaberra is interested in expanding the Astariaxi powerbase by winning the ongoing war and making an example of Gelielandt. He has a reputation with Astariax for unneeded violence and is far beyond in the polls due to accusations of corruption and electoral fraud. A descendant of Astariaxi royalists, people fear he will reform the Empire. He also promises to expand industry and continue a socialist modeled economy, and closing exports to all nations in Anteria. He has stated that free speech slows down Astariax and has a habit of throwing petty insults at other candidates during interviews and speeches.

Political analysts predict a landslide victory for Cataldo Cotta, and statistics support this claim. Election results will be released on July 14th.
