Headquarters - Centus, Gellano Fief, Cosumar

Home Stadium - Cosumaquest Stadium (68,000)

Experience - This is Cosumar's 17th WLC. We debuted in WLC 8 and have since built a reputation as one of the premier lacrosse nations in multiverse, due to our strong domestic league (the CLL) and six WLC medals. Cosumar won back-to-back WLC titles in the 20th and 21st editions but crashed out early in WLC 22. Last time, we bounced back to claim a silver medal. Cosumar has also hosted the tournament in the past. Lacrosse was an obscure sport in Cosumar 30 years ago, but has since risen rapidly to become the fourth most popular spectator sport here behind only basketball and association and gridiron football.

The Lions best performance was a quarter final appearance in the 16th WLC which saw the Lions lost 13-10 to eventual runner ups Delaclava. DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's fourth time participating in the World Lacrosse Championship. For reasons that can be simply summed up as "it's the best thing we've done in a while," the Democratic Republic is sending forth their women's national lacrosse team once again. The women's team, led by the "Fearsome Threesome" of Menan Alrisheb, Fatima Alsambis, and Cecilia Cuvimi, managed to win third place in their first ever tournament WLC XIX, beating the Serbian Empire to nab the bronze from under the veteran nation's noses. This women's team is different from the other women's lacrosse teams because they are trained in men's lacrosse rules, the reasons why will be explained in the history spoiler below.

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacross was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current promotion-and-relegation format in 1951, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse Premier League) at the top of the pyramid. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Flefteikor' Fidourhat'she ob Lakros or FFoL) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually, the FFoL established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

They also won the last two World Lacrosse Championships, and they're gunning for a third straight title. Can they do it, or will someone finally break the streak?

Head Coach: Luzviminda Lozima (69)
Lozima is the first ever head coach of the Abanhfleft women's national lacrosse team, a position which has been ironically dominated by men. A noted lacrosse player herself, Lozima definitely knows how the players think on the field and off it. This gives her an edge over many former managers, who were men and therefore had no experience playing women's style lacrosse. The players also have a deep respect of Lozima because of her fame and role in the old silverware-winning national side of old.

Assistant Coach - Tactics: Tim Blyther (43)
Blyther is an Australian who played lacrosse in Abanhfleft's Lacrosse Premier League for almost fifteen years, eventually retiring in 2009 with five championships under his belt. Blyther is also a fan of association football, and was the mastermind of adapting some of that's sports tactics into lacrosse, and this combination of lacrosse and football helped lead the Releinthi Fighting Sticks to three consecutive championships in the Lacrosse Premier League. Being the inventor and innovator of FootCrosse (the combination of football and lacrosse tactics), Blyther was invited by the FFoL to be both national teams' tactics coach, but this will be the first time that FootCrosse will be seen on the world stage, and how Abanhfleft will perform in this tournament will determine the viability of FootCrosse on the international lacrosse scene.

Assistant Coach - Training: Chan Lua (57)
A popular aerobics instructor back in the 1980s, Chan Lua was hired by the FFoL in 2012 for a yearly salary of 2 million new penenks, one of the largest yearly salaries ever in the federation. Lua's job will be to increase and enhance the players' fitness levels. Lua's hiring, which had been a controversial decision at the time, eventually paid off when both national teams' starting lineups lasted much longer on the field than their opponents. Observers keen to gauge this side will look to Lua's contributions to the effectiveness of the national side. In his spare time, when he is not the fitness coach of the Fleftic women's national lacrosse team, he is the fitness coach of the Fhulghamous Peninsula national football team.

Menan Alrisheb (#10) - The star player of the Abanhfleft's women's lacrosse team. She definitely has the makings of a world lacrosse superstar, being in the prime of her playing career. Her talent was spotted at a very early age, being already courted by some of the country's top universities when she was still 11. She eventually went to Malhall State University, which has a critically acclaimed lacrosse varsity program and is incidentally near her hometown of Selid, in Myleikaf state. Alrisheb was then signed by the Bytuch Wyk Hermits (Ladies) at the age of 21. Alrisheb began representing Abanhfleft in 2005, when she was a reserve attacker for the U-18 side. She made her first team debut against Canada in 2009, and she immediately showed signs of her emergence as one of the best lacrosse players of her generations by scoring a goal and assisting in two more in a hard-fought 3-3 draw. She also made waves in the national sports scene when she announced that she was in a relationship with Ibrahim Ahmadinejad, right fielder of the Verbergerkinnh Cubs of the Abanhfleft Major League of Baseball and the men's national baseball team.

Fatima Alsambis (#9) - One of Fleftic sports' greatest success stories. Alsambis was diagnosed with a congenital defect which meant that she had little to no control over her excretory system, leading to her being stuck with diapers her whole life. Most people would have given up the rest of their lives at that, but not Fatima Alsambis. Despite her medical condition, Alsambis strived hard in athletics, and eventually became a skilled lacrosse player. One would think that playing sports, especially lacrosse, would be hard while wearing an adult diaper, but Alsambis made it work. She was signed by the Riuwiee Stateswomen in 2004, and she was called up to the national team soon after. She also shocked the Fleftic sporting world by declaring on national television her eventual love for diapers, along with the declaration that Fleftic football star Luke Edwards had proposed to her after almost 8 years of dating.

Cecilia Cuvimi (#8) - Cuvimi carrries on her shoulders the legacy of the Cuvimi sporting family, begun by her grandfather, Cecil Rhodes Cuvimi, Senior. She started playing for the Bendy Benny Benders (Ladies) in 2004, and was called up to the national team in 2007. Up to this day, she has been inconsistent in her playing style. Sometimes she shows the brilliance that evokes the run-and-gun style of the elder Cuvimis. Other times she plays like a seventeen-year-old reserve player forced up into the first team by injuries to the better players. Cecilia definitely has a lot to prove, and while she has become consistent in her game during the World Lacrosse Championship XIX, there is still room for improvement for her.

Nickname: The Amazons
Colors: All white with blue, orange, and green stripes on the waistline and yellow numbers in a red circle (home kit); all red with yellow letters and numbers (away kit)
Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.

To be added later

HOME STADIUM
Image
The Imponte Garden in Kammala, Garufaloe Province, home of the Garufaloe Cobras of the FNLAF, will be playing host to the Fleftic national lacrosse team's home matches. It has an official capacity of 51,000 people, and while attendance regularly exceeds that figure thanks to a rabid fanbase for American football, and people prefer to stand up or sit on the stairs whenever capacity is filled, the organizers are not sure if this capacity will be filled for lacrosse matches, as it simply does not have the same pull as American football, association football, or even rugby union.

Associated Godlands Roster, World Lacrosse Championships 43

Background
Associated Godlands has never been a lacrosse power; they didn't even have a rank up until prior to this tournament.. However, the sport has recently been growing in the theocracy, with more and more people playing. That is part of the reason why Associated Godlands chose to bid on a lacrosse tournament, and ended up hosting the 23rd edition. For the roster, the coach is Shirley Phelps-Roper, who is also the Queen of Associated Godlands. Normally, she doesn't have time to coach lacrosse amid her duties as Queen and soccer coach, and she leaves it up to her assistant, who happens to be one of her eleven children. But now, in such a special event, she will coach the team. In terms of the players, the best is, of course, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who scores most of the goals for the team, is the best defender, the best leader, and so on. A few of the other players are good, too, Christian Christian comes to mind. And several of Shirley Phelps-Roper's children play on the team, and they live up to their great name.

Coaching
Head Coach Shirley Phelps-Roper - Also the Queen of Associated Godlands
Assistant Coach Mary Phelps-Roper - Does most of the work

Starting X
GK Christian Christian - A very solid goalie
DEF Larry Phelps-Roper - Solid defender
DEF Gary Phelps - A nephew of Shirley, so not quite as good as the other Phelps-Roper's
DEF Margaret Phelps - A niece of Shirley
MID Christian Christian - Would you look at that? Another person of the same name! Not quite as good as the goalie
MID Peter Phelps-Roper - Not a bad midfielder. Not bad by any means
MID The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ - Really really really good
ATT Matthew Baptist - Solid attacker
ATT John Phelps-Roper - Pretty good at scoring. Not as good as the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, though
ATT Samuel Phelps-Roper - The son who was born out of wedlock

Bench
GK Bartholomew Phelps-Roper - The Phelps-Roper family procreates a lot
DEF Abigail Phelps-Roper - Procreates a LOT
DEF Larry Phelps-Roper - They even ran out of names, so they just reused them
DEF Robert Phelps - Another nephew
MID Christian Christian - The name Christian Christian is very popular in Associated Godlands
MID Rubin Magdalene - Pretty good, but starting spots aren't easy to obtain
MID Maximilian Phelps - Somehow related to Shirley Phelps-Roper
ATT Charles Johnson - What he is doing on this team, I have no idea
ATT Christian Christian - The worst Christian Christian

New Look Banijan Lacrosse Team gets ready for 24th World Lacrosse Championships with dreams of gold dancing in their eyes

Image
New Banijan manager Pavle Yankovich(left) stands with former Banijan head coach & current Lacrosse Association of Banija President Dejan Polek(right)

BLOODEFUS- Soon after the 23rd World Lacrosse Championships, lacrosse in Banija underwent a massive reformation. The first generation of lacrosse in Banija, 12 years, have been reshuffled & replaced, starting with the promotion of Dejan Polek from national team manager to the Executive President of the Lacrosse Association of Banija. It had be known that he had clashed heads on multiple occasions with the former leadership, and he knew that he needed to bring major reforms to lacrosse in the country that would be felt nationwide.

Dejan Polek was a very decorated coach. He has a 23-11 competitive record as Banija's manager, and in their 1st 3 major tournaments, they captured 2nd place, 3rd place, and 4th place respectively. There is one thing that he has not done though, and that could forever scar his record as Banija's first men's lacrosse coach. He has not won an international tournament. The closest he got was his very first attempt, when in Banija's very first international sporting competition ever, he took Banija on a cinderella run, defeating lacrosse powers Nassau-Hessen and WLC 21 hosts Star United States on the way to the final, where they fell to Cosumar in the WLC 21 final, the team that they will open this year's tournament against.

Banija had another great effort in WLC 22, falling to the eventual champions Abanhfleft in the semifinals, though many observers thought that they were the 2nd best team in the tournament, and just had the misfortune of having to play Abanhfleft 4 times, the team which Banija went 1-3 against in that tournament. WLC 23 however, is where everything fell apart. Everybody thought that it was the best chance for Banija to win a tournament. While Banija won its group, it did so by the slimmest of margins, only going 4-2 in the group stage. And then, against Nassau-Hessen in the Round of 16, Banija was shockingly upset by Nassau-Hessen and knocked out of the tournament extremely early.

The shocking loss made the tournament a complete failure for Banija. A nation that had grown to expect success in this sport could not even make the quarterfinals, and the anger was large. Dejan Polek almost declined his promotion to the Presidency of the LAB, but he decided to take it on anyways. The first task he had, was hiring a coach. He ended up hiring the WLC 22 captain, the teams' central midfielder in their first two WLCs, Pavle Yankovich, as the head coach. They both shared a vision that swift change was needed in the national team, and the reason for their failure in the WLC 23 was complacency on the team sheet.

Dejan Polek largely stuck to the same players for his 4 international tournaments. After the great success in his first tournament, everybody who did not retire was basically guaranteed a spot on the national team. While that worked for a while, it was clear in WLC 23 that the team needed a breath of fresh air. They were failing to change & adapt, and the rest of the world had figured them out. A team that, at WLC 21, was young, quick, & exciting now had turned into a team that was old and slow. Pavle Yankovich went out to change that.

Pavle Yankovich, for the first time, recruited outside of the Moravica region, the place where lacrosse is easily the most popular within Banija. The team, out of a roster of 24, only has 9 returning players from the WLC 23 team. Most importantly, there is only one returning starter from the WLC 23 side. Yankovich said that this new side consists of not only Moravicans, but that it is a squad that represents all of Banija.

"I went all across Banija to find these players, and I think this side has the best possible chance to bring us home that championship trophy. We have young players coming off the bench like Lemuel Debebe and Nikola Vucenov who, under the old regime, would have never been found. I think people are shocked at the amount lacrosse has grown outside of Moravica, and it'll proven in this tournament that this sport is truly a sport for all of Banija."

He went on to talk about his team's schedule. "Our first game is probably the most anticipated game of the group stages, as us, the #3 side in the world, prepare to take on the world's #2 side and multiple-time WLC champion Cosumar. Other than that, I am very excited for this group. We have a matchup against regional rivals Frenline Delpha, which is always exciting, as well as a matchup with Amazonesta, a nation that has been a long-time friend to Banija. Most of our opponents nations, if not the teams, will be very familiar to Banijans at home, so I am excited for this group stage and that we qualify in a good position for the Round of 16, as once you're at that stage, everybody has an equal shot at taking home the gold."

(more info about these territories in domestic newswires)

Home Stadium (if necessary)
- Talsheer, Polaris. The Talghahn seats 80,000 and is a legendary stadium in Unionite lacrosse. Three teams in the domestic league play here. Talsheer itself is dry, with big differences between summer and winter temperatures. Expect this stadium to fill up to at least 50,000.
- Pereselenets, Thaulandi. The Century Bank Stadium can hold 31,000 and that doesn't make it among the biggest stadiums in the domestic league. However, you can expect this cold, but domed arena to sell out.
- Marinwood, Thaulandi. The Big One (yeah, the name of the stadium is really Marinwood's Big One) has a maximum attendance of 74,000 and that puts it second in the league. The Marinwooders are pretty picky about their lacrosse though: the Rebels play in this stadium and you'll find their fans to visit the Big One for national team games as well, but the Citizens' fans, normally going to the Marinwood Oval, will probably not even try to make it to the rival ground.

Ontorisan National Lacrosse Team

Background
Lacrosse in Ontorisa, much like the rest of the world, is fighting an uphill battle against other sports. It is expensive, relatively unknown and hard to organize at times. Despite this, there is still considerable talent that does come out of Ontorisa and heads over to the Northern Sunrise Islands Lacrosse League's Entry Draft.

Taking inspiration from the other playing styles of the other national teams of Ontorisa, the national team uses both speed and skill to create space and to make high scoring chances. The defensive core of Ontorisa's team is highly agile and possess both good groundball recovery and stick checking skills. However, just because Ontorisa does not play a physical game does not mean that they are immediately pushovers in the physical category as players do take the body, especially during groundballs in order to maintain possession.

WLC XXIV

Postby Mapletish » Sat Apr 02, 2016 9:17 pm

All went well tonight as Mapletish went out to secure a well deserved 10-8 win against Drawkland, it was "the" match of the group has the two Pot 4 nations battle out at the Ownerist's Death Record Bank Arena at the Owneristanol to determine the better of the two lowest ranked or should we say unranked nations in the group. Having been outside of the multiverse lacrosse scene for so long, it was expected that the Lions will have a slow start to the WLC.

After Mapletish's dreadful first international friendly match after 8 WLCs with the Mapletios All Stars, a team consisting of players from Danaelia, Callenham and the Maridain Islands, the team experienced a huge drop in morale. "An all round thrashing" was what best described that disastrous afternoon after the Lions lost 15-1 to the All Stars. The inexperienced team could only play in the shadows of the more experienced players of the Mapletios All Stars, however it was Jonjo Delsvic, the charismatic head coach who tried to salvage the situation. One thing is on his head and that was to put the humiliating result behind and get their best form in the WLC.

The evening kicked off with an onslaught of attacking moves by Drawkland, that indeed caught the Lions as the former went one goal up in just a matter of minutes. It was thought that it would be the start of a dreadful evening but The Fierykop stayed on for what would be an amazing turn around for Mapletish. It was about time the most experienced player on the field step up, Dennis Julian was right up on his job as he rallied the team together.

The defenders held up for once and was crucial in soaking up the continuous waves of attack, led by Hyram Lacy, they got the score down in the 1st half of the match, conceding five goals. The middies up their game as Julian gave the offence well needed offensive chances and immediately brought the game back to their favour. The Mapletish side finished the 1st half scoring five goals to even out the score.

Delsvic addressed his team during the interval break as the players seemed a little more relaxed than usual, knowing that they have gotten used to their own rhythm and that of Drawkland's.

"This is our first WLC after so long, and we've got a chance to make this a successful outing and make a statement to the Fierykop. We just need to hold onto this rhythm and build up some momentum and let us ride the tide to victory!"

It was indeed difficult to hold onto the game as the Lions were trying not to be complacent as a slight lack of focus will help their opponent win the close game, something that would not work well in the team's favour.

It was clear that Drawkland would not be pushed over as they got in three quick goals to lead Mapletish only to see the later cancel out their efforts with their own, bringing the match to a close 10-8 victory in favour of Mapletish.

"If we play our own game and focus, we will win," was a simple statement made by Delsvic in a post match interview but it was what held the team together as what most of the Fierykop will agree with.

"Thank you for coming on such short notice," Matt Koppelberg said to their visitor. "Please, have a seat."

Irene Ozerov looked at Matt, then at Matt's sister Smiley, then at the couch in front of her. Finally, she took a seat in front of Matt and Smiley. "Well, this is a bit unexpected," she said. "I've never been invited into a house like this before. Usually, I just go in through an open window or the unlocked kitchen door and eavesdrop."

"I guess today's your lucky day, then," Matt said. "I feel a little bit ashamed to say this, but I, actually we, need your help."

"My help?" Irene asked. "With what?"

"Look, Irene, let's not beat around the bush," Smiley said. "We all know that you have a reputation for... sneaking into other people's homes and following them like some kind of serial killer or stalker. Now, before you say anything, let me just say that this isn't about you stalking me or Matt. We need your help to stalk someone we need stalked."

"Wow," Irene muttered. "This is indeed a new experience for me. Okay, how may I help you, and who do you want me to stalk?"

"I'll take this," Smiley said to Matt, and she laid down a bunch of pictures on the table in front of Irene. "This is Abigail Colchester," she said, pointing at the pictures. "She's my, well, former lover. We got ourselves artificially inseminated and then we both miscarried, and she blamed me, still blames me, for what happened. And now she's here in Riuwiee, and she's following me."

"Okay," Irene said, nodding her head. "Let me just say for the record that that is messed up. But I still fail to see what I can do to help you with your problem."

"Seeing as you're an expert in the art of... observing people from a distance, we need your help," Smiley said. "I need your help. Shit. I can't believe I just said that to you."

"Well, if it's so hard for you to make the call, then I'll just leave," Irene said as she made to stand up.

"No, no, Irene, please don't leave!" Smiley said. "Yet another sentence that I never thought I'd say. But please, just listen to me, to us. We need your help."

"All right," Irene said as she sat back down again. "I'm listening."

"Here's the deal," Smiley said. "We need Abigail followed around. We need to know her everyday routine. We need to know if she's been going to court or the police to file a complaint. We need to know if she has any plans to visit us so we can plan accordingly."

"And what's in it for me?" Irene asked. "From what I see, there's nothing in this deal that will benefit me."

"I'll drop my acts of lasciviousness case against you," Matt offered. "Not to mention all of the trespassing charges you've accumulated from all of your night visits to me."

"I told you, Matt, that wasn't me visiting you in the night, it's either a succubus or you're just having wet dreams again."

"The offer stands, Irene," Matt said.

Irene went silent for a moment, and then she reached for one of the photos on the table. She looked at it, then she looked up at Smiley and Matt and said, "All right, you've got a deal. But you owe me one, okay?"

"Whatever you want," Matt said, three words that he immediately regretted because he knew what they would entail.

"All right," Irene said as she stood up with Abigail Colchester's photo still in her hand. "Give me three days to do my thing, and then I'll get back to you." With that, she left the house without another word.

"Do you think that that was the right decision?" Smiley asked Matt once they were sure that Irene was out of earshot. "Getting Irene to stalk Gale, I mean?"

"I'll admit that it wasn't the best of plans when I thought up of it," Matt admitted. "And I'm willing to admit that this could come back to bite us in the ass very hard."

"Still, it's what, three days of peace for you?" Smiley asked.

"I really hope so," Matt replied. "Hey, wanna get something to eat?"
Three days later

"Thank you for finally making some time on your busy schedule to give your poor mother a cup of hot tea," Eva Koppelberg, mother of Matt, Smiley, and Japheth said to Smiley as Eva's only daughter gave her mother a cup of tea. "What is this? Earl Grey?"

"Lipton, Mom," Smiley replied, taking the seat across the table from Eva. "You know I can't afford that English stuff that you love so much."

"Yes, of course," Eva said, waving off Smiley's comment. "All right, I'll cut to the chase. We need to talk, Ruslana. You and I, as mother and daughter."

"Oh, God, Mom, isn't this a little bit too late for The Talk?" Smiley groaned. "I already know everything there is to know about sex, periods, and even period sex. Now that is icky."

"No, we are not going to have The Talk," Eva said. "And what was that you said earlier? Period sex? God, I've experienced that too, and I'd rather not remember it at all. Anyway, I am here to talk about your looks."

"What about my looks?" Smiley asked.

"To be brutally honest, Ruslana, you look stupid with that short pseudo-pixie cut," Eva said. "I'm not even sure if that's a pixie cut or a mohawk gone wrong. But what I do know is that it looks stupid, especially on a beautiful woman like you. You look like that pop star who's whoring herself out to everyone who even gives her a bit of attention, what's her name? Oh, yes, that damned pop star Millisaurus."

"I think you mean Miley Cyrus," Smiley said evenly. "God, when you said her name like that, you made her sound like a dinosaur."

"She might as well be a dinosaur," Eva said. "I can never pronounce these new pop stars' names right. Back in my day, it was much easier: Madonna, Bon Jovi, The Proclaimers. Aren't they much more easier to remember and say?"

"I guess," Smiley conceded. "But I like myself the way I am. And why are you suddenly interested in the way I look? Don't tell you've got another date lined up for me."

"What? I didn't say anything!" Eva protested. "But my friend Delia from my gardening club, her sister Urbana is a member of my backgammon club, and she's got a nephew who's not only a great backgammon player but also quite handsome and dashing and your age, Ruslana! A little dinner between the two of you wouldn't hurt!"

"Mom!" Smiley shouted. "Don't you remember the last time that you set me up on a blind date with one of the nephews of your club friends? He ended up almost dying because he ate shrimp while trying to impress me, knowing full well that he's allergic to shellfish! Thank God the hospital was right around the corner, or else I'd be seen as some kind of black widow!"

"But he didn't die, and that's what's important," Eva said. "Speaking of which, are you still in contact with him?"

"Are you kidding me?" Smiley snorted. "The guy's a fat nerd who looks like he was peer-pressured into coming out of his mother's basement. Or cellar. Or wherever nerds still living with their mothers live."

"Now that was not a nice thing to say, Ruslana," Eva reprimanded her. "Especially since he's not here. Either you go to his place and say that to his face, or you apologize for your words right now."

"All right, all right," Smiley said, raising her hands in surrender. "I'll apologize to him. But that doesn't mean that I'm sorry for what I said."

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. "I'll get it," Smiley said to Eva, secretly thankful for the opportunity to escape her mother. She walked over from the kitchen to the living room and to the door. "Who is it?" she asked as she turned on the door monitor.

Irene Ozerov stood at the other side of the door. "Smiley, we need to talk," she said.

"Done already?" Smiley asked, more to herself than to Irene, and she opened the door. Irene looked said, almost apologetic. "What's wrong, Irene?" Smiley asked.

"I believe this belongs to you," Abigail Colchester, who suddenly appeared from behind Irene, said to Smiley. Gale's sudden appearance gave Smiley the shock of her life. "Oh, my God!" she screamed out.

"I'm sorry, Smiley, I failed you, and I failed Matt," Irene said.

"Gale!" Smiley said, struggling to find her voice. "What are you doing here?"

"I can't believe the depths to which you will stoop, Smiley," Gale said as she barged her way into the house. Smiley was powerless to stop her, and she could only watch as her former girlfriend went in. Irene hesitated, and then she followed Gale into the house, also without an invitation from Smiley.

"You were actually going to send this poor woman after me and make her follow me around?" Gale accused Smiley, pointing at Irene.

"You told her all about that?" Smiley asked Irene.

"I'm so sorry, Smiley," Irene replied. "But she's way more paranoid than I am, and she combines that with the Men in Black's ability to extract information from even the most tight-lipped captives."

Smiley was about to say something about what Irene had just said, but instead, she let the matter drop and instead turned to face Gale. "What do you want?" she asked in a resigned tone.

"I want an explanation," Gale said. "To everything."

Smiley sighed and rubbed her hands over her face. "All right," she said. "Where do you want me to start?"

"Start with why you left me," Gale said.

"Right, that," Smiley muttered, sighing again and running her hand through her hair this time. "Of course, you had to start with that. All right, Gale, you want the truth?"

"Yes, I want the truth," Gale replied. "And don't tell me that I can't handle the truth because I'm not Tom Cruise and you're not Jack Nicholson."

"All right, Gale, you wanted the truth so much, you're actually gonna get it," Smiley said. "I left you because you were crazy."

"Crazy?" Gale took a step back as if Smiley's words physically hurt her."Why would you think I'm crazy?"

"Where should I start? First, you accuse me of killing my baby when I miscarried. Then you claim that I killed both of our babies because you said that I was afraid of that kind of commitment. And even before that, I knew that you were giving every woman I talked to the evil eye. I never said anything, but I knew. I always knew. I could see it either on their faces or on your reflections in windows, mirrors or wherever I could see you."

"The evil eye? How dare you!" Gale shot back.

"Don't act so high-and-mighty with me, Abigail," Smiley said. "Yes, I admit that I flirted with some of my clients and contacts in the business, but that's just part of show business. And it's not like you weren't flirting with women and the occasional man too! Yeah, I know all about that. You find a man, lead him on, making him hope to have a good and steady relationship, and then just as he's ready to commit, you whip out the lesbian card and crush his soul just like that! You're a regular soulcrusher, yes, you are, Abigail Colchester."

"Fine! I admit it! I'm a tease!" Gale yelled. "But maybe you should have stopped to think about why I did the things I did. You've never known commitment because your father ran away from you and your mother and so when you're faced with the chance to commit yourself to another person, you went and did what your father did!"

"Don't you dare bring my father into this!" Smiley yelled back. "You have no idea about the kind of hell my mom and I went through when my dad left us! And another thing, Gale. You keep harping on and on about my fear of commitment, but you've never stopped to think that instead of me, maybe it was you who was afraid to commit!"

"You take that back!" Gale shouted. "You take that back, you bitch!"

"No, I'm not gonna take it back," Smiley said. "I'm committing to my words, Gale. Maybe you should've thought better of this when you went to me while seriously drunk and asked me for my number!"

"Man, I'm almost glad that I'm missing the Handball World Cup for this," Japheth Koppelberg said as he sipped a can of Sprite. He and his brother Matt had entered the house through the back door in the kitchen after Irene had sent Matt a text telling him that Smiley and her former lesbian lover Gale was having a fight in their house. Matt, while surprised to find both his mother and his creepy stalker neighbor inside his sister's house, he didn't comment on it. Instead, the four of them stood at the threshold of the door between the kitchen and the living room, listening in on Smiley and Gale's fight.

"You have to admit, handball won't ever be as interesting as this," Matt said as he sipped whiskey from a glass.

"It's almost worth getting caught," Irene Ozerov agreed as she drank straight from the bottle of whiskey from which Matt had poured his glass.

"Ah, children," Eva Koppelberg said, shaking her head. "Can't live with them, can't live without them."

New Head Coach gets first victory after Banija defeats world #2 Cosumar 9-6 in WLC XXIV opening match

Image
Team captain Dragan Kovac celebrates after scoring the game's opening goal against Cosumar

BLOODEFUS- After these groups were drawn, everybody realized that this game would go a long way towards determining who was going to finish atop this group. When two highly ranked teams, both with a history of success & both with realistic expectations for championships meet on the field, especially this early in a tournament, it is always a chance for a statement game. The #2 & #3 teams in the same group, and drawn to play each other in the opening match, drew some excitement towards this match. Cosumar & Banija are, by now, established powers in international lacrosse, and both teams wanted to win this one badly.

The game started out evenly, with the 1st quarter ending with the score tied at 2. Banija's captain, Dragan Kovac, showed part of the reason why he was declared the team captain with his two goals in the first quarter. The biggest question mark going into the tournament had to be the defense, though WLC debutants Hassan Motuma & Eleazar Aklilu held up very well against the very potent Cosumar attack. The second quarter was more of a reflection of the 1st quarter. Tightly contested, low-scoring, and this game was like a heavyweight title fight. Both teams were landing punches, and each punch landed was responded to with a counter-punch. Both teams were here to win, but Banija went into halftime with the slimmest of leads, with a last second goal by Joseph Novak putting Banija up 5-4 at the half.

The 3rd quarter is where Banija was able to break away from Cosumar. Banija outscored their opponents 4-0 in the 3rd quarter, with a flurry of goals that essentially buried the #2 team in all of lacrosse. 20 year old attacker Cyrus Bell scored once off of the bench for Banija, and 22 year old midfielder KeAndre Wright scored twice off of the bench in the same quarter. In the 3rd quarter, Cosumar came out slow & flat-footed, while Banija came out with much more intensity than their opponents, especially on the offensive end. They were able to hold much more possession than their opponents, and with the score 9-4 going into the 4th quarter and the Banijan defense playing as well as they were, there was no way Cosumar was going to be able to come back. The final score ended up being a 9-6 victory for the Banijans.

Head Coach Pavle Yankovich, as one might expect, was ecstatic after this victory. "Cosumar is a nation that has always historically been dominant at lacrosse. They are 2nd on the all-time medal list at this prestigious tournament, placing top 3 in 6 different tournaments. That shows that Cosumar is a team with remarkable consistency, as they can come in, tournament after tournament with a huge target on their back, and still compete for a championship every single time. I was on the team when they beat us in the WLC 21 final, and I can tell you, their standard for excellence is set high."

"This team is just as good as those others in Cosumar history who have also placed at this tournament. So the fact that we were able to defeat them in regulation shows the growth of our team, especially from WLC 23. Our team last time was never really able to mesh, so we had something to prove today. And we did. You cannot fluke your way to a victory over a team as good as Cosumar. We showed that, despite our performance in the Associated Godlands, we belong in the discussion as one of the sport's best teams."

"However big our victory was today, we have not accomplished anything yet. We saw this group draw, but as the old adage goes, you must beat the best to be the best. This meaning, one win is not going to get us into the knockout stages, which is the catalyst for our ultimate goal. We must go back to the practice field tomorrow and prepare for Alphatheta. Alphatheta put a beating onto Ethane in their first game, and they have some dangerous players. We are taking this tournament a game at a time, and our team needs to keep its focus and be prepared for our match-up with first-place Alphatheta."

Some time had passed for the Ferret team that played in the last Lacrosse event, and it was now time for a new journey and a new event to play in. It was due to the great success they had during their first event that allowed them to continue to try for a second one, more weight was now going to be put on seeing if they could maybe improve, or do as well as before. Of course in the eyes of the team it was more likely to just be considered a glorified vacation, and there would be a whole new place to see, and different people to see too, along with a few of the same other nation’s teams. Maxen and the team got their equipment back, and prepared for another series of games. They had to pretty much crash course practicing to get back into what little grove they could consider they had.

Of course before they could get to the games they had to get their schedule and other important information. Maxen was sure surprised to see just how their first event effected their position for this event. The team happened to have gone from unranked nobodies to ranked fourteenth probable anybodies. They would still have their work cut out for them, since their rank surely did not equal experience.

Ferret Civilization 11-10 West Phoenicia

Their first game threw them right back into the mix of things, the real crash course in playing the game again. Of course they still had the major disadvantage of height, though luckily they had worked on that and had information from their other teams on how to try and work around that. It lead to a close game through the whole game, with the score being within a point or two all the way up to the end. Vaughn kept his happy go luck mood though, even though he was not able to stop the other team pretty much at all while Stiofán and Dubhghlas had a fun time trying to score for their team and mostly succeeding.

Ontorisa Thrashes Kaboomlandia
With a 12-4 win over Kaboomlandia, Ontorisa now leads Group D

Angelou - "We just gotta keep playing hard out there and push ourselves to win every game we can." Is what Tobias Resicha said after the Ontorisa-Mareut game.

It appears the Ontorisan team decided to follow this advice. With a 12-4 win over Kaboomlandia, Ontorisa's offensive guns were booming tonight. Jean-Gabriel Desjardins had 7 points (3 goals and 4 assists) while Tomas Morollos snagged 5 points (2 goals and 3 assists). Xavier LaForte played a huge role in the goals scored tonight, seemingly taking a shot from wherever he could. LaForte scored twice while assisting two more times. Once Ontorisa was up comfortably at 9-4, the rookies from the OKLL saw much more playing time as Alexei Rayujov scored what was easily one of the best goals ever seen so far in any game.

Breaking apart the Kaboomlandian defence, Rayujov used both his size, agility and long pole to find his way and put the ball in the back of the net. Marikir Slauja had an excellent bounce shot from way out that beat the Kaboomlandian goalkeeper cleanly. Kaspar Rikkard had two goals, one of them being a below the waist goal and the other one was a good, over the shoulder shot. Velnaas Tologish also chipped in with a great shot that deflected in off of a defender's stick.

With this game, Ontorisa has improved to a 2-0-0 record, along with a dominating 26 Goals For and 12 Goals Against. With this game done, Ontorisa is now looking forward to its third game against Ko-orean.
