A Brief Story About a Nuclear Incident in My Nation

Postby Rhodakh » Tue Feb 23, 2016 7:46 pm

Let me know what you guys think!

Regarding the Nuclear Incident. Dr. James Kelner, Ph.D. April 29th, 2015, 14:01 PST.

To my beautiful wife and fellow Rhodakhians,

Dorncon Industries has repeatedly issued false statements regarding the extent of the incident which occurred on June 17th, 2013 on Unidorh Island. The Commonwealth did sanction the disposal of hazardous chemicals and nuclear materials on Unidorh, so long as Dorncon ensured that proper safety protocols were enforced and damage to the immediate environment was minimized.

The explosion which occurred at the facility two years following this decision was both entirely preventable, and entirely the fault of Dorncon. Although many suggest that, in hindsight, the government could have had better oversight for the project, Dorncon repeatedly falsified documents, evaded inspections, and worked around safety regulations.

Myself, Dr. Grueber, Jhanar Deree, Ferndi Alkhanat, and three other currently unknown facility workers were far enough away from the explosion to survive the incident itself. However, the last of the other survivors died last night. I am all that is left.

In total, thirty-seven people were killed in the incident itself, not counting us. I remember the ordeal quite vividly. The peaceful quiet of the island canopy was cut by an earthshaking force. I could feel the heat from the inferno as a fireball rose at least a hundred feet into the air. To this day, I am unsure of what exactly triggered this massive explosion. Myself and my colleagues fell to the ground, more out of surprise than actual force.

Then we heard screaming. The kind of gut wrenching, horrible scream that you could only imagine in your worst nightmares. I witnessed a man thrashing around the forest canopy, burning alive. Two poor souls had been spattered with a highly corrosive chemical agent simply called "Sjat". One simply stared at his leg, screaming as his skin evaporated. The other clawed at her own eyes as they melted. These two. I see them in my dreams. There were body parts, and more burning men, but we ran as fast as we could. I can still smell it. Even today.

The area is now under strict supervision. No one in, no one out. The central blast location (sometimes called "Zion") is radioactive enough to be lethal within an hour. The trees are twisted and perverted by radiation. The birds grow stunted and weak. The waters around the Island become more and more toxic each day.

I lied. On television, in the newspapers, on the radio. Everywhere Dorncon wanted me to be, I was there. Everything they wanted me to do, I did.

I am sorry.

I suffer from the same sickness that has killed the others. I fear that I have very little time left to right the wrongs that I have committed. Following my death, it is my wish that this letter be released to the public. People must know what happened and why.

And for my darling Rundh, I am sorry for the things that I have done. No matter what, I will always love you and cherish the memories that we share together.

Sincerely,

Dr. James Kelner

In accordance with Dr. James Kelner's final wishes, this letter has been released to the general public on the day of his death, February 23rd, 2016.
