Homosexuals kicked out of bar for kissing

Postby The Realm of Lordaeron » Sat Feb 20, 2016 8:54 pm

I live in oklahoma city anD anti gay views are prevalent here. Still, I never thought I'd see two homosexuals straight up kicked out of a business. Obviously, in my opinion, it is their right to decide who they want to do business or associate with, but it still is amazing that those views are still so prevalent even in the city here in Oklahoma.

Do you think business owners have the right to refuse service to people who participate in a certain lifestyle?
What if they want to refuse people convicted of certain sex crimes? Or racial minorities? How do you feel about this incident?

It really depends upon the business. If they're a family-owned business, I'd give it the ok to run how they like it but if it's like a bar or other commercial places, they really shouldn't. It's all variables

There are a lot of variables to this; but generally I oppose government telling people what to do. That being said, the point in being in business is to serve everyone, not just specific ideologies.

I'm confused about the "only when it puts others in danger" poll option.

What sort of scenario are we imagining here? Is there a gay superhero in the bar? One who might ignite with the fury of a thousand suns if he becomes aroused by the sight of kissing? An elderly homophobic woman who might be shocked to death? An extremely certain and localized instance of divine wrath?

They have a right to kick out anyone.
Please be nice and refer this country as "America", or "United States" when in IC.

Yeah, freedom of association, but I don't know how they'd know if someone was a sex offender.

If you could add it, that would be awesome. I'm on my phone and the poll scroll is not cooperating. I tried to add it originally.

Let's frame it differently: do businesses have the right to conduct business however they want? In other terms, do businesses have the right to employ any business practice, no matter how egregious, despite the condemnation of the surrounding community? The historical record indicates from the 19th century onward, federal and state legislation have told businesses how they can conduct themselves. Critics of this trend fear these laws are a violation of economic rights, but supposing there is a right to free business practice, every right entails its appropriate limitations. Does prohibiting businesses from adopting anti-gay policies represent an appropriate limit? It must be, as it is reasonable to support stipulations against any irrational business practice. The stigmatization of homosexuals is not based on reason, but on prejudiced social norms, and can therefore be nothing more than an emotionally based disdain for an out-group. Given we can regulate businesses practice within appropriate limits--and that stomping out irrational businesses practices falls within the appropriate limits--it is both just and necessary we do not allow homophobic businesses to continue their discriminatory acts.
