Northwesterners are:
  • Loud
  • Violent
  • Communist
  • Drunk
  • Dirty
  • Hardworking
  • Strong
  • Passionate
  • Sexual ;-)
Overall they are true. Specifically:
  • Loud: 67% or so probably fit this description.
  • Violent: 73% or so fit this.
  • Communist: 93% fit this.
  • Drunk: 4%. They do love a good drink, though.
  • Dirty: 14%. Most are clean but hard-working folk sometimes can't be.
  • Hardworking: 64%. Farmers and fishermen are some hard frickin workers. There are some that prefer to focus on more individual things like painting and singing that aren't necessarily blue-collar "hard-workers.
  • Strong: 72%. Hard work makes one strong.
  • Passionate: 82%. Most Northwesterners can be said to be extremely passionate about something.
  • Sexual: 52%. It is a stereotype that because of their stoic, hardworking nature, Northwesterners are also very sensual and commanding in the bedroom, dominating any foreign partner. This is generally true but such a broad statement of course is not true without falsehood.

Tarma Says — Stereotypes!

Good morning, YouTube! It's Tarma here and you're watching Tarma Says, and today we're going to be talking about my country a little bit! Now, at the end of the last video, for those of you that were tuned in, I asked you to leave a comment about your impression or opinion of Kroraini people based on what you've heard or what stereotypes you've encountered and boy, did we get some crazy answers!

So, obviously, there were a lot of comments, and thank you all so much for those! Unfortunately, I can't go through every single one of them, but I've picked out some of the more repetitive ones and one or two that caught my eye as either particularly outlandish or extremely spot-on, so without further ado: Kroraini stereotypes! Let's see what you guys came up with.

Stereotype №1: Aren't you Chinese?
This stereotype probably arises from the fact that Kroraine was until 1992 an autonomous province of the People's Republic of China, and prior to that was part of the Chinese Republic and further back the Chinese Empire. Hundreds of years of Chinese political and cultural rule have shaped our modern culture, and, like many newly-independent countries, many people simply haven't heard of us or are accustomed to old maps without an independent Kroraine.

But no — we're not Chinese (though many of us have significant Chinese ancestry, and many people even speak Chinese daily!).

Stereotype №2: All Krorainis are vegetarians.
So, this one took me by surprise because vegetarianism isn't actually all that common in Kroraine, but a lot of Kroranis are Buddhists and especially Mahayana Buddhists, and Mahayana monks generally don't eat meat. That said, the vast majority of Krorainis are not monks, and a lot of our pretty common dishes contain lamb — and I mean we eat a lot of lamb!

Stereotype №3: Krorainis drink a lot of tea!
So, Krorainis are often stereotyped as a tea-drinking people, and I can 100% confirm this one to be true, guys. Tea isn't just a drink here — it's a lifestyle. Having friends over? Serve them tea. Unexpected guests arrive? Offer them tea. Afternoon break time? You guessed it: tea. And let me tell you, guys: Krorainis are very particular about their tea. Like, "it's tea! How can you get so specific about your tea?" Trust me on this one — every little region has their own very particular set of rules about how tea should be served, what can be added to the tea and how much, and even things like which order the members of a party should be served their tea. Tea is serious business in Kroraine!

Stereotype №4: Krorainis aren't very talkative.
This one's going to be a "yes-and-no" answer from me. Kroraini people are usually pretty reserved when it comes to outsiders, but if you're with friends or family in a more private setting then the conversations carry on and on and on, and volume control is a lost cause. We have a kind of self-stereotype about this: if your houseguests are leaving, they'll linger in the door and chat for at least an hour before they actually go!

Stereotype №5: Riding camels!
So, I hear this one from a lot of my friends in China and I guess it's somewhat justified — camels are kept as livestock in the rural areas of the south. On the other hand, I've lived in Turpan all my life and am a city girl through and through, so you can bet I've never actually seen a camel in real life. If I saw a camel in my district I'd probably be in shock!

Stereotype №6: Krorainis are pre-modern, backwards people.
So, once again, this one kind of took me by surprise as well. So, obviously we're not the most developed country in the world, but neither are we the most underdeveloped. Many of us have plenty of modern amenities and services. I'd even venture to say that most people my age have a smartphone, at least in more built up areas! And of course — internet access, which I'd say is pretty important to me!

Stereotype №7: Krorainis can't speak English very well.
I have to admit, this one's pretty true. Although I'd like to think my English is pretty good (or, at least I hope it is, since my video diaries are all in English), most people I know don't really speak English all that well or even at all. Now, that being said, many of them do speak Chinese and Russian, and knowing German isn't all that uncommon either. So, we're not entirely cut off from the world — we're just connected through different ports.

Stereotype №8: All Kroraini families have lots of children!
This used to be the case. My grandparents all had a lot of siblings, and my mother had four brothers. Talk about a full house! I myself have a sister and five brothers, and my boyfriend has three sisters, but people my age are having fewer children than ever. I think it's getting harder for young people to settle down and have families since society has changed so much in the past few decades, and I know a lot of people are waiting longer and longer to have children. So, this one's kind of a "yes, but it's changing."

Stereotype №9: Kroraini girls don't shave.
This one's kind of true. I think shaving your legs and underarms is kind of an American thing, and most Krorainis just don't get the hype about it. Some girls do it here, but it's seen as a very "western" trend and some people consider it to be kind of weird to remove a natural part of your body anatomy.

Stereotype №10: Krorainis are sexist!
So, once again, I think this is more of a historical truth than a modern one, although there's definitely still some sexism in Kroraine today. Before the communist era, women were restricted to traditional roles and were expected to be subservient to their husbands. After the Revolution, the State worked a lot to ensure women's social and economic equality, and in today's modern Kroraine women have a lot of individual economic independence, personal freedom, and sexual agency.

So, that's all we've got for today, guys! I hope you enjoyed this video! Let me know down in the comments if there's anything you think I missed that's worth mentioning, and as always, hit that like button and subscribe to receive notifications whenever I upload new content. Thank you so much, and I'll see you next time on Tarma Says!

Most people think the average Wochaysteiner is either a big game hunter, or an adventurer, or a romantic - even though in every way he's more of a self-deprecating guy. However, even though he has a funny habit of calling people names and has a tendency to get flustered when nobody sees him laugh, the Wochaysteiner is often in need of a friend!

Some people think his job is to hunt wild animals, yet he also takes care of animals that the other people don't, for free, or has a passion for exotic animals such as lions, tigers, elephants, etc.

Most people think he will eventually get sick of hunting but he still loves it, and he still needs to hunt. Most people think he sleeps too much, but he also sleeps like a robot, so you don't have to worry he will get old. The Wochaysteiner also gets a bad reputation for having trouble holding a job.

Postby The Macaronesia » Fri Oct 11, 2019 12:23 am

In almost all the islands of the Macaronesia there are the same stereotypes:

Rural people of the northern region of the islands are naive. Almost true.
It is common that people living in northern villages of the islands are very polite with stragers. Even, if you are going for a walk in some villages, it is possible that you find an elder woman that asks you to come inside her home to have lunch after you have greeted her and talked to her for a while. It can be explained because of the migrations: when a emigrated returned a lot of years after leaving, many times they were not recognized by the neighbours. So they began to think every stranger could be a returned emigrant. Nowadays it is not that usual that emigrated people come back, but the tradicion stays. However, it is not an indicator of naïveté, but of politeness: northern people follow their instinct and try not to treat with people they dont trust with.

Rural people of the southern region of the islands are roguish. Almost false.
Unlike northern people, it is known that southern people are not that polite. But it does not mean that they are roguish. Southern face of the islands have been traditionally more exposed to drought, and crops were less regular. This situation boosted robbery and boycott amongst farmers, so distrust began to be a way to survive. Actually, if you go to a southern village you will find that people are ruder than the northerns - for instance, they may suspect if you say hello to them. What explains the trickery that is falsely attributed to the southerns is thatsome people from the villages, when have moved to the town, act like they where defending themselves from the other citizens. This untrust make traditional inhabitants of the town to suspect about them and it have finally derived in thinking they are roguish and trickers.

Town people are arrogant. Half true.
Despite there is people that have been living in town for life that are arrogant, it is not very usual because people in town are on their things - office work usually needs much more concentration than rural works. But, surprisingly, the most arrogant people in town are those who moved from a rural village. Specially the southerns.

Immigrants are stealing our jobs. Almost false.
Due to its development index, the Macaronesia is not the favourite destination for both immigrants, legal and illegal. But taking into account that sometimes immigrant arrive, it is true that they finally could be empoyed instead of Macaronesian. Nevertheless, illegal immigrants usually hold arduous employs, even paid below the minimum salary or in black money, and legal immigrants usually hold employs which cannot be fulfilled by Macaronesian due to a lack of graduated.

The rest of the world think we are backward. False.
Well, it is true that there are people that think Macaronesian are backward - but it is almost exclusive from Portugal and Spain, where there are people that think the independence should have never been granted. On the contrary, international polls show that European and African see the Macaronesia as a prosperous country, where they would want to live because of the peaceful the islands show. And in America, the Republic is seen as a sort of European Caribe, but with less crime, less laziness and more variety of climates. So, no. People does not think Macaronesian are backward.

Arevastan encompasses people of different ethnicities; there are no proper stereotypes about an Arevastani man as, well, an Arevastani. He might be an Armenian Arevastani, Georgian, Azerbaijani, Assyrian, Turkish, Kurdish, etc...

Some stereotypes about Armenian Arevastanis, the majority of Arevastan:

  • Big noses - Armenians are known for their large and rather grotesque noses. While it's true that some might have rather large noses, the majority of Armenians have adequate ones.
  • Pride and arrogance - Armenians are infamously proud of their heritage, to the point of arrogance and feeings of superiority. Many Armenians do in fact take great pride in their heritage, but most are content with celebrating it as well as other cultures that shaped Arevastan. Only a small minority actually calls for Armenian supremacy, Arevastani society as a whole disregards them; religion is seen as a more important factor.
  • Intelligence - The belief that Armenians are a smart people as a whole arose throughout the ages due to a culture that promotes science and the humanities, as well as a fondness for the game of chess. It is true that there are many scholars and great chess-players of Armenian heritage, the average Armenian isn't too bright nor too dull - he's average.

Some stereotypes about Georgian Arevastanis, the second largest ethnic group in Arevastan:

  • Alcoholism - Georgians are believed to be an alcoholic bunch, who'd rather do nothing but drink vodka or wine all day long. This is, of course, blatantly untrue. While there are indeed alcoholics in Georgia, it is true of many other places and countries as well. The average Georgian is not naturally more predisposed to alcoholism than the citizen of any other country.
  • Blockheads - it is believed that Georgians all have a square head. While some members of the species do (all stereotypes are, after all, grounded in some kernel of truth), this is a most absurd notion - that an entire nation is blockheaded!

True stereotypes about the Strahconian Republic:
  • "Its people like America" or "it's very patriotic"
    • For obvious reasons.
  • "It's very conservative/capitalist"
    • Because most of the world is the opposite, and perspective matters. (Of course, when talking about the individuals, some are more conservative, some are more liberal, some are more laissez-faire, some are more Keynesian, etc.)
  • "It's very wealthy"
    • What else would you expect from a free-market society?
False stereotypes about the Strahconian Republic:
  • "It is anarcho-capitalist"
    • I don't know how or why anybody thinks that. Last time I checked, anarchist societies don't have a public military, a constitution, political parties, and strict anti-abortion laws.
  • "It hates women"
    • While Strahcoin and its people are heavily opposed to abortion, this has nothing to do with women being "inferior" or anything. The reason of the nation's opposition to abortion is that it believes that fetuses are human beings with rights that should be equally acknowledged as they are to those outside the womb.
  • "The rich stay rich and the poor stay poor" or "the rich stay rich at the expense of the poor"
    • On the contrary, the "poor" in this nation are wealthier than the middle-class of nearly every other real-life nation. Moreover, most - if not all - economic transactions that occur here are voluntary.
  • "The Strahconian people don't care about the poor"
    • Most of them just prefer voluntarily donating to private charity rather being forced to give to a public bureaucracy. Also, see the Welfare Party.
  • "It is 'transphobic'"
    • While it is true that the people of Strahcoin do not look highly upon transgenders, they are not excessively or irrationally afraid of them. They see gender as binary and predetermined by genetics, and those who "identify" as a different gender are seen to have gender dysphoria (or just joking).
  • "The people are obese, cruel, rude, boring, (insert untrue capitalist/conservative stereotype here, etc.)"
    • Some people are, but that's consistent in every nation. Each individual has his/her own personality traits, emotions, actions, strengths, and flaws. Some are honest, some are cheerful, some are hard-working, some are brilliant, some are overweight, some are underweight, some are interesting, some are boring, some are cruel, some are rude, some are polite, some are moralistic, some are lazy, etc.
  • "There's a lot of police brutality here"
    • The police force (and the military) is heavily trained and disciplined to treat individuals fairly.
Not all NS stats/policies may be used. NOTICE: Factbooks and Dispatches are mostly outdated. See here for more info.
Accidental policies: Marriage Equality. I blame nsindex.net for not mentioning that part in no. 438 even though common sense dictates that I should have figured it out myself
A 15.428571428571... civilization, according to this index.
On this index, my army is a 6-6-8.
OOC: I am a conservative and a free-market capitalist. Trump is great, even though he is a moderate. There are only two genders. I like natural rights, but strong authority and cultural moralism are needed to protect them. Nation mostly represents my views.

* Gamblers: somewhat true, given the number of casinos
* Caribbean wannabes: Somewhat true
* Culturally mixed up (especially of English, Dutch, Indian, West African, Amerindian, Japanese, Chinese, Javanese, and Aboriginal ones): true
* Friendly and humorous: this is true. West Coralonians would rather go out with someone they just met than alone
* Odd language: subject to opinion, but it is different from other Creole languages in the Americas
* Innovative: true, given their whimsical post-modern architecture, famous fusion cuisines, and lively art scene
* Has a cultural identity crisis: untrue, this misconception is due to its apparent multicultural roots
* The more dynamic, consumerist, democratic, and modern side of Coralonia: true
* Has strange, introspective television shows with dry humor: this doesn't reflect the majority of television consumed in the country
* Experimental forms of entertainment: true, kinda goes in hand with the innovative spirit
