1st Campaign: Operation Torch | Chapter 1: Operation Brushwood


You are a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. You command a platoon of soldiers fresh out of boot-camp...much like yourself. You are ill-experienced in the art of war but this matters little. Your country has called upon you to serve, many of you are lawyers, businessmen, and teachers who went to college before you were drafted or volunteered after the events of Pearl Harbor. And while you may not be facing the Japs who started America down this path you must remember you face a far more dangerous foe...Nazi Germany. In just a few years Germany has amassed a large Empire that spans throughout continental Europe and into North Africa. It's up to you to take that territory back and kick those Nazi bastards back to Berlin. So, do you have what it takes to save the world from the Nazi menace, or will you fall like so many before you?

This is a Tactical Military World War 2 Rp. This means that you will be in command of units of the US Army on the Western Front of World War 2. While this game will be cooperative, do not believe that it will be a cake walk over German enemies. Battle Results will be determined by RNGs which take into account tactical considerations (Numbers, positions, weapons), Roleplay quality (Better posts will yield better results), and skills of the officer. Battle moderators will control the NPC forces of both the enemies and friendly NPC forces. This game will be divided into a Front -> Campaigns -> Battles. Through this organization, player decisions and results form the beginning will shape the course of the war. Player characters will grow in terms of rank and skill. Depending on player rank, awards, and skills, players will be able to call in a limited amount of support during missions to accomplish their objectives. Combining player forces, support requests, and the NPC soldiers, players will work together to win the battle. Be careful with what you do with your characters, because your unit is likely to be slaughtered and your character killed for foolish actions.



How it Works & Gameplay

Game Storyline
This game is organized into Individual "Battles" & "Campaigns". Battles are the individual conflicts between the player forces and the enemy. Battles are grouped into campaigns. The results of one battle will determine the style of the next battle. Battles grouped together form a campaign, which the primary element this game will use to determine the course of the war. Over the course of a campaign, players have options for growth and advancement, but it is limited. At the conclusion of campaigns, however, the actions of players and their units will be fully evaluated for rank promotions and awards. Utilizing the Battle & Campaign structure, players can generate an entirely new story and outcome for the Second World War. Each iteration of the game will be under a "Front" which unites all the Campaigns.

Determining Outcomes
Every battle will have a battlemap posted and maintained by a Battlemod. Usually battles will have strategic points to capture or defend and the players' ability to accomplish their objectives determines the outcome of a battle. To determine player success, moderators will use Random Number Generators (RNGs) that take into account several factors - tactical considerations (Numbers, positions, weapons, Ground Support), Roleplay quality (Better posts will yield better results), and skills of the officer. Players will post Roleplay posts for the actions of their unit, and to a small extent the reactions of the enemies (Not to the point of God Modding) up to the point where they can determine what occured (I.e. two or three posts about their unit fighting, positioning, inflicting damage, etc. then a battlemod will look over player posts, post results and potentially update the map if necessary. Battles may be subdivided between mods to cover larger areas or ease administrative burden.

Example -
Player 1 posts moving his soldiers into position and laying covering fire as player 2 advances
Player 2 posts his troop advancing and lobbing grenades into the enemy lines.
Player 1 posts advancing his soldiers closer and calling in artillery support
Player 2 posts taking and inflicting casualties

Battlemod runs an RNG for success:

Tactical: +30% Base + 10% Covering fire and Advance + 10% High Morale +10% Officer 1 Artillery Support - 25% Entrenched Enemies - 15% Heavy Enemy Artillery Support (+20% Overall)

Player Units

Infantry & Armor
Player units will have two statistics to keep in mind, Strength and Morale. Strength determines how strong your unit can fight due to numbers, skill, experience, etc. given as a rating and morale determines your unit's willingness to surrender or retreat. Battlemods will factor these in when determining the percentages of the RNGs as well as determining your unit's actions. Players of greater rank will combine the strength scores of their units. Morale is still done on a base scale.

Air Force
Player units are flights of fighters meant to escort ground support planes. Air units will have two statistics Strength & Escort Health. Strength determines how well the player's fighters can fight and Escort Health is how much damage the bombers/ ground support planes have taken. If Escort Health falls below .3, player's unit will have to try to escort the support planes back. Higher ranked players will combine the strength scores of their units and the escort health.

Player Skills

Players may take two skills When they first join. Every promotion afterwards unlocks a new skill. Skills may be selected more than once to increase their benefit.

Infantry & Armor
- Offensive Doctrine: Player Unit fights better on the offensive
- Defensive Doctrine: Player Unit fights better on the defensive
- Superior Officer: Base strength of player unit increases by .3
- Inspiring Presence: Base morale increases by .3
- Artillery Spotter: Artillery Support is more effective when used by this player
- Air Support Spotter: Aerial Support is more effective when used by this player
- Rapid Attacker: You are able to coordinate rapid assaults and counter-offensives much better.
- Mechanic School: You and your unit are able to repair damaged vehicles or maintain them.
- Close Quarters Doctrine: You excel at leading close quarters fighting against your enemies.
- Snipers: Your unit has snipers attached to it (Infantry Only - Getting this skill again gives better snipers)
- Superior Equipment: Your unit has received better than standard equipment in one area (Generally granting a +.2 base strength but when selecting this skill, specify the better guns, armor, radios, etc. that your unit has and what benefit it should give. Selecting this again can allow for another better-than-standard equipment group.)
- Influential: You are considered an important officer, meaning more support is granted to you +10 Support Points
- Skilled Soldiers: Your men are of better quality than most +.2 Strength and Morale. Taking this again makes them even better.

Air Force Officers
- Dog Fighter: You are individually better at fighting enemy pilots
- Dog Fight Coordinator: You excel at coordinating air-to-air combat with your unit
- Evasive Maneuvers: You are skilled at evasive maneuvers in your own plane to escape enemies
- Evasive Coordinator: You are skilled at coordinating evasive maneuvers for your unit.
- Fighter Training: Your men have received better training adding +.3 to their base strength
- Superior Mechanics: Your equipment is maintained well by your ground crew allowing for faster repairs and better equipment.
- Superior Equipment: Your planes have been outfitted with the best and latest technology, armor, equipment, etc. the Red Army has granting a permanent +.3 Base strength. This may take the form as a prototype plane.
- Escort Defender: Your unit is better at shielding the support planes you are escorting adding +.3 to Escort Health
- Escort Training: Your unit is better trained or experienced with their assigned role +.2 to base strength and escort health
- Strafing Skill: Player unit is better at strafing enemy positions.

Support Points

Support Points are used by officers to help them accomplish their missions. The amount of support points available are limited, however, to simulate the limit on resources and availability of support. Player officers may combine their Support Points if working on the same objective to simulate the increased use of resources devoted to that important objective. Player rank determines how many support points they have. Support Points replenish after every battle. These points are very limited and so should be conserved for important objectives. Air Forces use Support Points to boost their own performances.

- Coordinated Strike: 10 Support Points (Pilots work closely together to take down a target)
- Offensive Squadron Maneuver: 40 Points (Pilots work intensely with their entire squadron to take down a target)
- Favorable Winds: 15 Support Points (Pilots take advantage of favorable air conditions to accomplish their goal).

Personality: Hostile towards Nazis (will not take Nazi Party members or SS Captive), Caring and Lighthearted towards his soldiers, worried about his old flame Dana Gerst.

History: Born in a small Wisconsin town to a family of German-American Jews, Asher Stein grew up in a stable and productive environment. He was loved by his family (parents, one older sister who's 25, one younger sister who's 22, one brother who's currently 17) and was good at making friends with the local children. When he was in high school Asher found himself falling for a German-American girl named Dana Gerst, she replicated the feelings and the two became close at school, however outside of school the two remained separate due to Dana's parent's holding heavily anti-Semitic beliefs. The two carried on their relation in secret however when Asher was 18 and the year was 1936 Dana's parents and Dana herself moved back to Germany after hearing of the successes of the Nazi controlled nation. This devastated the two who were now only able to keep in contact via letters (with Asher needing to assume the name of one of Dana's friends back in America to fool her parents), though it proved sufficient contact to keep the two's feelings for each other burning.
After high school Asher went to university with the goal of getting a doctorate in History, as Asher was successful in classes an idea was borne between Dana and Asher in their letters with each other. Asher and Dana would save up money so that Dana could escape from her parents into France where Asher would be waiting hopefully with enough money to get them both back to America...this plan was made back in 1939 just before the invasion of Poland. When the war started all means of communication were cut off and Asher has spent the last 3 years unsure of Dana's health and activities. Seeing no way to make his way into war torn Europe, especially with the Nazis in control of much of it, Asher continued his studies and was only a year away from his doctorate when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. When Germany declared war on the US Asher went to his nearest recruitment center and volunteered in the US Army. Now as his landing craft approaches the beaches of Morocco, Asher prepares himself for his first taste of combat against the Vichy French.

Personality:
Christopher is a charismatic and charming young man. He leads with great bravery and try to set a valiant example to his peers. Though he is headstrong he is smart and a very capable soldier. His father served in WW1 and he was ready to continue the lineage when the call to arms came.
History:
Christopher was born in a sleepy town in west Michigan, to a veteran of the first world War and his mother who served as a nurse. That is also how his parents met ironically. Christopher was an intelligent and highly active youth and excelled both academically and athletically at school.
When the war started he immediately headed to the recruiters and signed up. His parents though shocked were proud and supportive of his decision and his father was honored that he carried the family lineage with him.

Pretty good, just three things, you can only start with two skills that are listed in the OP, equipment should show what your Platoon as a whole has and not just your commanding officer, and your unit is what platoon, company, and battalion you're in so I can update the OP with your character's place. Just fix that and we're good.

Edit: Also we're starting in Africa not Europe so you might want to change that part of your history.

First, those are fireteams (squad is 9-10 but you probably want to keep it at 10 for the four regular squads and 7 for the command squad), second you need to have 47 troops in your platoon as this is a platoon-based combat experienced.

Personality:A calm officer in the face of fear he does not panic nor does he loose heart. He leads his man like a professional and the man respect him following his words to the T. Although he is calm he can be ruthless to those that step out of line and will punish people who disobey his orders.
History:
Born in Liverpool, England. David was born into a middle class family who where not well of but to the rest of Liverpool at that time they were. As such David for his toddler years was mostly spoiled rotten having a couple of nannies to look after him while his mother and father where at work. But David at a young age was influenced by one person his grand father the Colonel of the Irish Guards Peter, David was told stories of how his grand father marched as a young officer across Flanders field and into battle. From these moments at a young age David always dreamed about the army but was never allowed into it by his parents. At the age of 5 David was given a twin Brother and sister ,Alex and Elizabeth, to which David looked over them and protect them from the harshness of what was Liverpool. However David was hit with hard times beginning with his Father dying and the Loss of connection to his Military Grand father. With no guidance and someone to look after David he soon got into trouble but that was not the worst of it.

The worst came with David's step father a ruthless American who had been staying in England for some time and who after just of couple of months of dating would marry David's mother. David's step father was a horrible man who usually would beat up David, Alex and Elizabeth. But David would get the worst of it ,mainly because he wanted to protect his younger Brother and sister, for many Children this would leave mental scares but to David he saw this a chance to prove himself that he man who could lead, a man who could lead men into battle, An officer. at the age of 14 David's step father moved the Family from Liverpool to Boston leaving behind any connection David had with his real life. David's step father immediately wanted the children to become solely American citizens and burnt he burnt any documentation of David being a British citizen. David although did gain some friends from his school and life began to brighten up for David after it emerged that he had quite the Superior intellect. He then went on to go and study Engineering in 1939 just before the war started.

The next two years of his life he enjoyed he manged to escape from the wrath of his step father and even became a little of a ladies man at his college. However that all changed in September 1941, a letter from the British army was mailed to David. In which he discovered his Grand father that he regarded so highly had died fighting in North Africa. Upon hearing the News he signed himself up to become a American army officer. But before he began basic training he manged to get his younger brother and sister out of Boston and back into England to hide away from their step father. When America declared war on Japan he knew that he would get to fight and to lead. He just hopes that he gets to try and avenge his Grand Father.

Personality: friendly and down-to-earth, Luke is nonetheless very pragmatic in regards to the lives of his men. He expects the best of the soldiers under his command, creating a special bond which more charismatic leaders never form with their unit. The war has brought out the best and worst of Luke, seeing him very open with his men one minute and ordering them to charge the worst of the enemy defenses the next. Even so, he is a family man first and foremost, seeing this war as both his test before entering manhood and his blessing for making the world safer for his children.
History: The Weaves have had a tradition for providing soldiers to the States, with every generation providing at least one son during war and peace. His father volunteered to serve in Europe during World War One, earning an almost infamous reputation as a no nonsense soldier. He was a man who seemed to enjoy the war, leading him to volunteer for the expedition to Russia. After the American forces were drawn out, Luke's father tried to settle down in England with one of the nurses who he had started a relationship with during the Great War. The post-war years were very difficult for the couple, so they returned to the States, returning to the family home outside of New York.
Growing up in the shadow of his family's exploits, Luke was destined to follow suit after completing his education, a decision which saw him meeting his newly-wed, Frances née Noonan. He joined the army straight after Pearl Harbour, instead of seeing through his doctorate in English to the end. Marrying Frances on the eve of his departure, Luke is expecting to return home to his parents, wife, and a child to call his own.
He and his soldiers are some of the best recruits in 2nd Company, a decision made by their CO out of pride and prestige rather than any actual tactical role. They were to be the vanguard of the Captain's political rise through the ranks, the heads of every parade and the medal-winners of the regiment. Such a goal meant that in preparation for their departure to Europe every man had seen almost half-again as much training as the next man. They had given up almost the entirety of their leave for their CO, creating a strong bond between them that most hoped would see more of them through to the other end.

Personality: friendly and down-to-earth, Luke is nonetheless very pragmatic in regards to the lives of his men. He expects the best of the soldiers under his command, creating a special bond which more charismatic leaders never form with their unit. History: The Weaves have had a tradition for providing soldiers to the States, with every generation providing at least one son during war and peace. His father volunteered to serve in Europe during World War One, earning an almost infamous reputation as a no nonsense soldier. He was a man who seemed to enjoy the war, leading him to volunteer for the expedition to Russia. After the American forces were drawn out, Luke's father tried to settle down in England with one of the nurses who he had started a relationship with during the Great War. The post-war years were very difficult for the couple, so they returned to the States, returning to the family home outside of New York.
Growing up in the shadow of his family's exploits, Luke was destined to follow suit after completing his education, a decision which saw him meeting his newly-wed, Frances née Noonan. He joined the army straight after Pearl Harbour, instead of seeing through his doctorate in English to the end. Marrying Frances on the eve of his departure, Luke is expecting to return home to his parents, wife, and a child to call his own.
He and his soldiers are some of the best recruits in 2nd Company, a decision made by their CO out of pride and prestige rather than any actual tactical role. They were to be the vanguard of the Captain's political rise through the ranks, the heads of every parade and the medal-winners of the regiment. Such a goal meant that in preparation for their departure to Europe every man had seen almost half-again as much training as the next man. They had given up almost the entirety of their leave for their CO, creating a strong bond between them that most hoped would see more of them through to the other end.

Yup, you were in the last Soviet version, figured I have better luck with an American one sponsored by the CAS Region which regularly has fun RPs open to both members and non-members alike (shameless promotion required of me by my Chairman XD).
