[DEFEATED] Repeal Renewable Research Commitment

Postby Vancouvia » Mon Oct 19, 2015 10:22 am

"Description: A proposal to encourage nations to fund renewable energy research.

ARGUMENT:

AWARE that the use of fossil fuels and fossil fuel related products depletes the limited reserves upon planets

UNDERSTANDS that the burning of fossil fuels such as coal to produce electricity releases the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide that contributes to global warming as well as other noxious compounds that can later cause acid rain as well as other environmental issues,

CONCERNED that this rapid depletion would leave no way to produce energy for future generations,

KNOWS that there are other ways to generate electricity without using fossil fuels. These include, but is not limited to, solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro,

HEREBY:

1) Instructs World Assembly nations to devote sufficient funding in order to make a meaningful and good faith effort towards researching renewable energy
2) Encourages nations to enact policies on fossil-fuel burning power plants to commit a minimum 5% from their expenditure to further renewable energy research and to develop ways to better utilize alternative energy sources
3) Urges nations to take into account and implement results from the renewable energy research

IN ORDER to allow future generations to produce electricity without further polluting the atmosphere. "

The World Assembly,

Acknowledging the attempt of Resolution #182 to reduce the use of fossil fuels in member nations;

Perplexed by the requirement that each member nation commit sufficient funding towards researching renewable energy when very likely virtually all renewable energy sources have been discovered, and the scientific research that one nation has done could be easily shared with other nations, and that therefore many nations who have been complying with this resolution for the past three years have been engaging in redundant research on technologies that have already been discovered and could have been easily disseminated for the benefit of all;

Confused by the suggestion that nations tax at least 5% of fossil-fuel burning power plants' expenditures instead of their revenues;

Annoyed that 5% was seemingly chosen at random, as a flat tax does not take into consideration the wide disparity of our member nations and their economies and industries, nor each nation's previous financial commitments towards implementing and subsidizing renewable energy financed through other sources;

Cognizant that member nations live on a variety of planets and exist as a variety of species, and that the production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases may be non-harmful or even essential to the survival of certain member nations' citizens;

Wishing that this resolution had installed a World Assembly committee that focused on promoting and sharing existing renewable energy technology instead of encouraging nations to implement an aimless tax on power plants;

Asserting that Resolution #182 is ineffective, insufficient, and inadequate;

Hereby repeals "General Assembly Resolution #182, Renewable Research Commitment"

Not a delegate, but will be voting against this if it gets to vote simply because of the minimal time allowed for debate.
Nation May also be called Ebsas Shomad.
WA Delegate: Tislam Timnärstëlmith (Tislam Taperedtresses)
Operates on EST/EDT

Never much cared for that one, but i have to ask, why the limited debate time? Does this glass slipper turn into a logging boot?

Are you purposely trying to alienate yourself? I can't imagine you're doing it by accident.

Is there a group of which I can be alienated from? I am a simple agent of the Common Nations and answer only to them

OOC: most of us regulars haven't bothered. You consistently ignore criticism, so why bother giving any? You've already formed a little club designed to submit crap because you don't like how seriously this part of the game has historically been played, so why should we treat this as anything but what it was clearly intended to be: crap thrown against the wall in the hope of sticking. Your other proposal at least has thought put into it, which is why nobody is bitching at you there. Disagreeing, certainly, but not bitching.

What else can you possibly expect when you do this?

I think he expects this to pass, if he can get a repeal-happy delegate or two to stomp on it early with him. Wouldn't surprise me if he succeeds, wouldn't surprise me if he fails.

I've been playing the game for months, just not on the side of the "establishment". This is me following principle IV of the CCN, which I stand by fully and with no regard for how things were done in the past. There is no right way to play this game. Sorry if you feel harmed because you didn't get your two cents in. Cheers and happy birthday

Maybe there is no 'right way', but there is an established way. Quite honestly, we are all seriously tiring of your shit. If you want to play the game "with no regard for how things were done in the past", you can do it, somewhere else. I've read your 'Coalition of Common Nations' thing, it's utter nonsense, and you can stop using as justification for whatever it is you do around here.

The established way isn't the right way, and I have no reverence for the established way. I'm playing this game here, in the General Assembly. If there were two General Assembly's then I'd definitely take a look at the other one and see if it would be more fun to play there. You don't own this playground.

Unless there's a suitable replacement ready to go by the time this is at vote, I am firmly against due to the short debate time.

Oh yeah, we can't be held in renewable energy limbo because nations won't "devote sufficient funding in order to make a meaningful and good faith effort towards researching renewable energy" if this is gone. Way to jump on

OOC: Well, this thread was entertaining.

IC: "I must apply an old rule for debating.
" 'If you brainstorm all four of your points in ten minutes, they are crap.' This applies quite well to this proposal and its bypassing of the drafting system that the delegates here love and cherish."

OOC: Please make the effort to use OOC and IC tags. Also, in short-hindsight, that quote belonged in OOC. I'm a debater, and that's a quote I and my team uphold to.

I suspect there will be a massive Mouse-Stomp™ on this one as it was authored by a former delegate of Europeia. 8) The only delegate I can see going for it will be Ram just to piss people off.
