La Liga Mellizos (LMZ) is the association football league that represents the top flight of both Nova Deseret & San Joaquin Valley. The league is composed of 16 team with 8 in each nation. The regular season sees each club playing 15 games, or once against each other team. The LMZ follows a point based system whereas wins will be awarded 3 points, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. Goals Scored For (GF) & Goals Scored Against (GA) will be recorded and combined to create Goal Differnce (GD) as a tiebreaker between a deadlock in points. Should teams continue to be tied, then the club with the most goals will be the determining factor. Champions will be crowned with the club that aquired the most points at the end of the season.
The LMZ was founded in 1993 as part of the rejuvination of the sport within both nations. In the late 1980s, the Nova Deseret Football Organisation was perceived to be stagnant & it was decided to split into a dual divisional structure with 6 teams in each league in hopes to add fresh excitement. The venture failed to pay off as the NDFO continued to lose talent & revenue to La Liga. Within Nova Deseret, it actually made it harder for the largest teams who were already struggling to survive & caused several lower level teams to fall into severe financial difficulties and dissolve within only a few seasons of the new league structure.
Meanwhile, the early 1990's saw great sucsess for players & several clubs from the San Joaquin Valley, making a name for themselves at Astyrian International Football Association competitions. La Liga wanted to expand further while some of the major teams within the soon sought to distance themselves from lower ranking teams in hopes to create extra revenue which originally led to the creation of the La Liga 1 & 2. Seeing the situations brewing across the borders, officials from both nations met to create La Liga Mellizos in order to save the NDFO, expand La Liga & to form unity between the 2 rival nations.
