-- The City of Arcadia --
You are dead.
You died a horrible, unexpected death.
You do not remember this death, or of what lead up to your death.
You do not remember life before your death.
You know your name.
You know Arcadia.
You know Mercurius.
You know your weapon.
You know your skills.
You know your uniform.
You know your odds.
“Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the sixth season of FATED, the world’s most popular gameshow, in which our two million contestants, each divided into two nations, the red Arcadians, and the blue Mercurians, battle for supremacy!” The announcer beamed as the colossal screens behind him displayed two distinct banners, one a dark crimson banner with an inlaid gold Tibetan eternity knot, the other a dark blue with an inlaid silver Celtic knot. “Tonight, the teams will be decided. So, please subscribe to your favorite participant feeds for the low low cost of seven dollars a month, and prepare for what’s shaping up to be the greatest deathmatch of all time. The stakes are high folks, the winning million contestants will be resurrected, and the losing million will be wiped from existence!” The announcer said, his face still smiling despite the horrible things he spoke.
“So don’t turn that dial, because you won’t want to miss this season of…
...FATED!”
The FATED MMORPG System has the classic class & subclass mechanic, where players choose a basic class, then after a bit of levelling, a secondary class or specialization. However, rather than having the players choose any of the classes, the supercomputer which runs the huge-scale simulation smoothly determines the base class off of the quantified ‘soul’ of the contestant.
Contestants also immediately receive a personally tailored subclass generated by the supercomputer. In this manner, much like the real world, individual people can be grouped into general categories, but with each one being unique and different from the rest of the category.
Skills, each contestant getting two, or powers specific to their class, as well as the basic combat experience (swordfighting, martial arts etc.) are automatically imbued into the contestants ‘soul.’ The class skills are procedurally generated by the computer at the same time as class generation.
For example, the subclass Spotter (base - Specialist) is a fire support unit, who, armed with a standard longsword and equipped with medium armor, can call down strafing runs from a dragon above, or even call down the super known as ‘Ragnarok,’ which causes the before said dragon to drop two huge bombs down on a specific area.
Base Categories in FATED :
- The Tanks : Heavily armored and armed, the tanks are designed for one purpose, to take the hits, deal the damage and hold the lines. They come in many varieties, some relying on large shields and others relying on willpower or sheer skill. Commonplace examples include Knights, Monks, and Cavaliers.
- The Mages : Lightly armored, but specialists in magic, the mages are masters of their chosen path. Some can heal, others can raise the dead. Others can channel flame, and even others can enchant the weapons of their allies. Commonplace examples include Wizards, Elementalists, and Priests.
- The Specialists : Specialists, in combat, are generally are averagely armed and poorly armored, they instead rely on familiars, creatures who serve them, to fight for them. This adds to their tactical flexibility. Commonplace examples include Beastmasters, Druids, and Sorcerers.
- The Infantry : Halfway between a Tank and the Tricksters, the Infantry are the backbone of any solid army. They are the spearman, the swordsman, the nameless soldiers who charge the walls. Commonplace examples of Infantry include Pioneers, Swordsmen, and Duelists.
- The Tricksters : Lightly armored, lightly armed, but lethal in the proper hands and setting, the Tricksters are just that - devious pricks who manipulate or assassinate their team to victory. Commonplace examples include Rouges, Jesters, and Ninjas.
- The Rangers : The Rangers are the non-arcane ranged components to a team. They use crossbows, bows, muskets, catapults and pistols to support their team from afar, or perform vicious hit-and-run strikes against their foes. Commonplace examples include Swashbucklers, Archers, and Musketeers.
