Prototype Fighter Unveiled at Molaoi Airshow

Image

Every year in the second week of August, the Monemvasian Air Force (MAF) holds a public airshow at Molaoi Air Force Base. The airshow is a part propaganda tool, part recruiting event, as the MAF increasingly relies on older college graduates instead of airmen who are first drafted when they turn 18. The MAF has also struggled with maintenance issues for its predominately foreign made airfleet. This year, the airshow featured F-16 aerial maneuvers from the 2nd Fighter Wing, a flyby of EF-111M Aardvark electronic warfare aircraft, and a A129 Mangusta attack helicopter weapons demonstration.

There were also a number of aircraft which did not fly, but where available for public viewing, including the A-15 Skorpios attack aircraft (a license produced Textron AirLand Scorpion), two M.Cs 82 Illusion fighters from the navy, and, most interesting for aviation observers, a prototype aircraft from the joint Beiarusia/Monemvasia Advanced Multirole Fighter (AMF) Program.

The AMF has been a closely guarded secret until recently, and even at the airshow, observers were not allowed to come within 20 feet of the aircraft. Our Korovia Defense Journal reporter on the scene was able to glean some information from MAF officials present.

The AMF is a generation 4.5 aircraft; it does not have inherent stealth features, although it is equipped with an advanced EW system. Most of the electronics and airframe are Monemvasian produced, while the engine is a Beiarusian AL-33E Uranus Turbofan. The airframe itself is similar to the IAI Lavi, canards and deltawing, but slightly larger. There is a visible IRST system forward of the cockpit, believed to be a variant of the OLS-35 present on Beiarusian fighter aircraft. The exact specifications of the radar are classified, but it is a Helios B, with a max dectection range of approximately 200 kilometers. The AMF present at the airshow is the third prototype. Additional tests are to be performed this year, with low rate production beginning in early 2016. Unit costs are projecting to be somewhere around $60 million NSD.

Officials promised Korovia Defense Journal that the AMF would fly at the airshow next year.

Nuclear Expansion in Beiarusia
August 23, 2015

THAMES (BN3) – In a controversial decision the Beiarusian State Department has approved the development of several nuclear plants to be constructed across the country, citing national security and rising power demands.

Nuclear power has been the topic of much debate as Beiarusia continues to distance itself from the burning of fossil fuels. Wind farms have been marginally successful along the nation’s western coastline though solar energy continues to be only measurably viable in the arid southeast, an area with limited infrastructure development and frequent conflict. Oil (imported primarily from Entrits) and locally mined coal, both known to be heavy pollutants, remain as the predominant energy source for the Kingdom, an option that many experts say is unsustainable in the long run.

Fissionable material – chiefly uranium and plutonium – have, for years, been a viable resource of the Nizki Mountains (Ryaak Region) in north-northeastern Beiarusia. The Mahtrynac Nuclear Power Station, operational since late 1998, one of few nuclear facilities constructed by the Empire of Kato before Beiarusian independence, relies solely on local fuel supplies and has since become a symbol for responsible nuclear management. Mahtrynac provides enough power to supply over 40% of Anlow with electricity, and similar stations are expected to become even more efficient with increased funding and development. It is theorized that, within a decade, as much as 50% of all of Beiarusia’s power needs can be met with nuclear power alone.

Image

While the benefits are very much real so are the dangers. Recently a nuclear plant in Leonlong, a nation found within the Laymena region, went critical after suffering structural damage due to the effects of a sudden earthquake, leading to a massive release of radiation and an unprecedented death toll. Similar although smaller disasters are not unheard of. Mahtrynac, by good fortune or skilled labor, has been free of problems since opening nearly two decades ago.

Another concern is the possible development of nuclear weapons, an accusation that the State Department has neither confirmed nor denied or even addressed. Peace activists have been vocal in their opposition to potential nuclear development as have Anarchist and Free Bergueten State (FBS) rebels. Foreign parties have yet to weigh in on these claims.

The Beiarusian Nuclear Commision has vowed to undertake every safety precaution available as Beiarusia pushes forward in its nuclear ambition. Though no plans have been finalized as of yet it is expected that a second nuclear power station will begin construction before year’s end.

Income Inequality Skyrockets in The Empire
(ANSJAVIK, AUGUST) All of our citizens have seen it as a fact of life. Yet now, as income inequality has nearly doubled, certain politicians are urging for a change in regime. Since 2010, the upper echelons of the Empire's population, specifically the top 10%, have earned an average of 17 times that of the bottom. This all changed, however, when the automotive manufacturers reported record breaking sales last quarter. In fact, Konpattufurbil, the internationally acclaimed Drasskarlian automotive firm recently purchased 18 acres of land in the Smalsfjordur region in the northern outskirts of them Empire, supposedly for more new factories. Now, the wealthiest 10% make 24 times that of the poorest 10%.
A recent study, conducted by the Empirical University in Johutsnadur, has shown that the root cause of this income inequality can be attributed to two things: the flat tax rate of 5.3% and the cultural spendthrift nature of the Drasskarlian people. Jon Smalson, the representative from Smalsfjordur urges for scaling tax rates based on income. Siggi Jonson, representative from Karlsbjorhavdur, argues that the income inequality is not an issue as the Empire still has scored far above average on the global happiness index. The study concludes that, unless there is serious change in tax law, the gap between rich and poor will get considerably larger with the Empirical government passing legislation to increase funding to the military plants. The current Emperor, Anbjorn Astbjornson, denounced the Universities study as communist drivel.

Naval Reconstruction shows Progress

Yesterday the International Security Institute (ISI) along with the Department of National Defense and Peace (DNDP) announced progress on the Naval Reconstruction Project that was announced previously. The Entritsian Navy has been expanded to incorporate 4 ballistic missile submarines and 1 frigate.

The department has yet to release the names of the 5 ships but will release those shortly as time commits.

Updating the Entritsian navy has consumed a large part of the defense budget in the last year in hopes of providing effective maritime coverage due to the Beiarusian conflict and the increase hostilities in the region creating a possible security dilemma on the Eastern seaboard.

But many people are asking questions about why ballistic missile submarines took priority in front of littoral combat ships that can clamp down on cross boarder security in the East. Rizen Dróvrizigen from the ISI commented that there has been recent "large budgetary holes" that could explain the experimentation with nuclear energy for military use. "The republic of Entrits receives a vast amount of energy through nuclear fuel and it would not be surprise to see some experimentation given the current administration with fissionable nuclear energy for explosive use. This could also explain the implementation of seven total nuclear missile submarines that could provide moderate deterrence in the region. I would look to see more ballistic missile submarines in the future," commented Dróvrizigen.

The DNDP commented that currently the Republic of Entrits denies any research or testing of uranium and plutonium for the use of military grade explosive nuclear weapons.

A WHISTLE BLOWN, A BIRD HAS FLOWN
Image

(JÆVIK) Military spending has hit an all time high. Doubling upon previous estimates, income inequality has grown to 43:1. In fact, the entire Drasskarlian economy is soaring. Unemployment is down to a record breaking 1.4%. However, radical groups are using social media to spread the famous Lord Acton quotation: "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." With the Empirical economy being over 90% privatized, many are questioning the morality of placing control of the military in corporate hands.

None questioned this more than former defense contractor Magnus Sigurðson- pictured in a police sketch- committed the vile crime of high treason when he released classified military documents. The scene played out as follows. On 21 August at 16:43, Sigurðson purchased a plane ticket to Beiarusia under a false name. On 24 August, Sigurðson clocked in to work at his usual time of 07:00. However he did not return from his break at 13:55. Working as a defense contractor, police immediately attempted to contact him. When he didn't respond, Empire police searched his apartment and found it empty and for sale. Sigurðson's flight to Beiarusia had departed by the time the police had realized he had purchased a ticket. At 08:30, this morning of 25 August, two documents were released on line by a user with the handle "whistleblower"

The documents, attached in this article, shed light on some of the inner workings of the Empirical Military. Plans for colonization were previously unknown and could, as the document suggests, infuriate foreign leaders. Further, what appears to be a plan of defense for the capital region of the Empire indicates a plan in the case of a foreign attack. Which means that the Empire is prepared for a foreign attack. This whistle blower's leaks have raised more questions than they've answered. A land grab by Drasskarlian forces could have beneficial or catastrophic impacts in the global community. We will continue to report on this issue if any new information comes to light. The leaked documents can be viewed below.

Kamur Military Exercises Begin

Image

Monemvasian Forces conduct one large scale exercise every year. Previously, exercises were held only at the Trogir Training Site, but this year, three Ground Forces brigades will be training in Hzarland at the newly opened Kamur Training Center. Kamur offers approximately 30,000 square kilometers of varied terrain for large scale training events.

For the next several days, the 3rd Infantry, 25th Armored, and 32nd Light Infantry Brigades will conduct live fire training. The exercises will conclude with a week long combat simulation against various regional forces. Results will be generated via the Laser Simulated Combat System (LSCS) in conjunction with practice paint shells and smoke.

Arms Shipment Intercepted
August 29, 2015

ANLOW (BN3) - A civilian freighter was intercepted by the Beiarusian Coast Guard northwest of Anlow following an anonymous tip. Several shipping crates were discovered to contain contraband, most notably weapons and ammunition which is currently assumed to have been inbound for Entrits. Light military hardware is rumored to have also been confiscated.

The civilian freighter, Ruska, was to next make port in the Entritsian city of Drude. Belonging to an independent shipping company it is currently unknown how the weapons were smuggled aboard or by whom. No known Anarchist groups have yet claimed responsibility, and the detained crewman have shed little light on the matter. Several possibilities have been brought forward, the most commonly accepted theory being that the weapons were acquired during the ship's passage through Virancian waters. Regardless port security in Leyte and Anlow has been increased.

An investigation is currently pending.

BNA to Participate in Kamur Exercies
August 29, 2015

HUZARIA (Korovia Defense Journal) - The Beiarusian Nationalist Army has confirmed its participation in the upcoming Kamur military exercises to be held in Kamur, Hzarland and led by the Kingdom of Monemvasia. This will be the first major deployment of Beiarusia forces since before the War for Independence. Several armored battalions as well as an Expeditionary Force (Beiarusian Special Forces) are slated for involvement.

Breaking away from its former isolationism the Kingdom of Beiarusia is quickly forcing its way onto the world stage in an effort to reestablish its sphere of influence after near eight decades spent under the rule of the Empire of Kato. Having undergone a rapid restructuring of its armed forces, and with a powerful economic base, the Kingdom is poised to potentially exert itself as a dominant power within Korovia. While only a training exercise, Kamur will be an invaluable tool in gauging Beiarusian effectiveness against a uniformed military, as well as providing much needed experience to the fledgling BNA.

Sergeant Major of the Army Sasha Duvalle will be accompanying BNA assets and will oversee the operations.

Whistle-Blower Seeks Asylum
August 29, 2015

THAMES (BN3) - The alleged whistle-blower, Magnus Sigurðson, has sought asylum within Beiarusia.

Wanted by the Drasskarl government for the act of Treason for his supposed involvement in the release of classified military documents, Sigurðson arrived in Beiarusia on August 21st on a traveler's visa. No extradition treaties exist between the Kingdom and Drasskarl, and the foreign government has failed to properly reach out to the Beiarusian government in an effort to remove Sigurðson. As such no warrant currently exists for his arrest.

Sigurðson arrived in Thames early on August 29th and immediately contacted the Beiarusian State Department. He is currently detained until a decision can be made.

Synklētos Extends Welfare Programs

In a surprise vote, the Synklētos (the Monemvasian parliament for foreign readers) passed a landmark bill yesterday that will provide pensions to the unemployed, single parents, and retirees over 65. In the starkly conservative Monemvasian society, government pensions were previously only provided to military veterans, although religious charities and private corporations often had their own programs. Funding for these new pensions will come primarily from increased taxes.

The pensions come with a number of conditions. The unemployed only receive assistance if they can document that they are still looking for work, while single parents are required to have had their children within wedlock.

Speculation abounds as to why the Synklētos chose this moment to enact a new welfare program. It is possible that international pressure from the World Assembly encouraged the vote. Synklētos elections are to be held next month.

Contraband interdicted Headed to Drude.

Postby Entrits » Sun Aug 30, 2015 10:21 pm

Image

On August 29, 2015 the Beiarusian coast guard intercepted a civilian freighter northwest of Anlow carrying weapons and ammunition bound towards the Entritsian city of Drude. Tips from an unknown source allowed the Beiarusian government to interdict the contraband.

The Entritsian government has been concerned about boarder security since the Beiarusian-Virancia conflict progressed in violence this last year after Fiedler Air Force Base was attacked by anarchist and Virancia forces in the Anders region in Beiarusia. In response the Entritsian Naval and coast guard received extra parliamentary funds earlier this year to create a brown-water naval force to detect, interdict, and eliminate naval and air threats in the Entritsian littoral regions.

While the littoral force has been in construction for many months, large blue-water navies has still seen priority in recent months. In response to the production of numerous ballistic missile submarines and larger open water naval craft, many citizens and government officials are confused and worried about Entritsian priorities.

"Why do we need so many ballistic missile submarines when we have a more pressing issue in front of us on our own boarder," commented Drudsian Slova (governor) Jerez Hazen. Reports concerning Entritsian missile and weapons of mass destruction developmental policies have come under considerable scrutiny lately as unverified information emerged to the possibility of nuclear weapons capability.

The Entritsian government denies all claims of research or acquiring nuclear weapons capability.

Explosion Kills Upwards of 60 in Hannenberg
September 1, 2015

Image
Emergency Services search through the wreckage for survivors following the deadly blast

HANNENBERG (BN3) - A large explosion ripped through the central streets of Hannenberg today, damaging several structures and killing upwards of sixty, the majority of which were civilians. A peace rally currently gathered in the former Bergueten capital is believed to have been the target.

The Bergueten territory has been a hotbed for turmoil since the assassination of King Reginald IV in February of this year. With civil war looming, and the very real threat of spillover into the already troubled Anders Region, the Beiarusian Nationalist Army marched against and have since occupied the capital city of Hannenberg. Annexation was declared in April. Prince Dimitri, having fled to the Kingdom of Virancia following his father's death, was quick to denounce such actions. The failed liberation of Hannenberg by government forces in late April would halt any reformation of the monarchy indefinitely. Free Bergeuten State - composed primarily of former government troops and mercenaries - would form shortly after.

With an Anarchist victory in Ven, little action has been taken against F.B.S. forces in the southeast of the country, leading to an uneasy peace as the Kingdom of Beiarusia continues to consolidate its power elsewhere. Few BNA assets have been deployed since, though a substantial military presence is maintained in the capital for obvious reasons.

The detonation took place at just after one o'clock. A peace rally hosted by city inhabitants, many of which are in support of the Landvik monarchy, was most likely the intended target of the attack. For reasons unknown the bomb failed to reach the heart of the rally, having gone off several blocks to the east near the city's financial district. It is speculated that over 200 if not more could have been killed had the plan gone accordingly.

The explosion is the first sign of open hostilities in nearly half a year. Blame has since fallen onto the F.B.S. though the rebel group has neither claimed nor denied involvement in the attack. The Beiarusian State Department has released a statement decrying the "needless violence" and have vowed to "seek justice" for these grave actions. Authorities are currently looking into the matter.

Yesterday the Entritsian Aeronautical and Space Association (EASA) announced plans to test their first rocket design that potentially could carry satellite, telescops, and eventually persons into space for the first time.

Many Entritsians see this test as a major step towards modernization and catching up technologically to other nations in the region. While technology has been increased in years, the Entritsian community has been limited to cable, internet, landlines, and radio signals to spread information. Currently the government piggypacks off of other nations public and private signals for a majority of their uses by the permission of the organization or government. But currently their are few private communication organizations and Entrits only retains indirect upon request usage of other governmental satellites. For the common Entritsian, the launch signifies the start to an easier and exciting new step.

The space community is also extremely excited about the new ventures towards space. While the federal government has sponsored one federal telescope in northern Entrits, the space program has been limited in funding due to, as some people say, more important concerns. But the increase in spending and the success in technology accumulation, thanks to Entritsian allies, has helped speed up the process. Such a launch will help increase what astronomers can study and accomplish in the next few year.

The defense department, which has been kept at arms distance away from EASA has been increasing pressure on the government to allow them to adopt and use space technology for military use. "The ability to secure Entrisian interests have always been essential to the well being of the country. I wish to be allowed to work with EASA in order to create joint efforts that will increase the durability of both divisions," spoke Secretary of Peace and Defense to parliament.

The Defense aand Peace Administration would benefit most predominantly through the communications and satellite imaging opportunities that would accompany any join effort.

But many worry about the both financial and security costs of both EASA and join efforts with the military. Left wing parties have been increasingly hostile towards funding EASA and allowing joint military efforts as miltary funding has taken priority over increase funding of healthcare and other social issues. But concervatives rave that this could create millions of jobs by opening a new Entrits based communication hub in the region.

Zamunda in Turmoil

Remains of a residential block in a predominantly Zorganese neighborhood after a bomb was set off.

Today at 2:01 PM ZT, a massive explosion occurred in a Zorganese neighborhood on the outskirts of Southra City, in Southra. Investigators say this was the result of a directly planted bomb. About 23 people were killed with another 8 people hospitalized. This comes after a Zorganese held protest on anti-immigration, as pro-immigration policies were recently passed. The motive, investigators say, was racially motivated. Immediately after the attack was carried out, the Zorganese community was up in arms around the country, ranging from the northern cities to the new south-eastern states. Adding more fuel to the fire, president Graddle used his executive powers to extend the open door policy to December 31st of this year. This infuriated Zorganese, who began to question the government and their representatives in the national congress. Soon, some newspapers started to spread rumors of corruption and lies about arresting Zorganese citizens. Inner-ethnic violence started to erupt all over the country.

Image
A supermarket was looted, like many others this week. This one is located in Harov City, Centralia.

Because of the recent events, many Zorganese are moving to the new southeastern states, recently admitted to the republic. Some fear for the future. As the recent events continue to unfold, President Graddle issued a brief speech, promoting a peaceful coexistence with the native Zorganese and other minorities. He asked for the violence to stop at once, and has told the masses that he had strongly urged the national congress to focus on other things than social issues. However, his message fell on ostly deaf ears as violence continues. So far, two states; Centralia and Northra have declared state emergencies, and have arrested numerous criminals. But what scares the nation the most, is the fact that massive Zorganese people have migrated south. Hopefully the violence will end soon and order can be restored to the nation. This has been Korovian News.

Synklētos Election Preview

Monemvasian domestic policy is determined largely by the Synklētos, a unicameral house of parliament in the capital of Gefyra. The Synklētos is made up of 500 members, each representing a municipality in Monemvasia's 6 provinces. Each municipality is made up of approximately 260,000 citizens. As a result, the more populous provinces, such as Komenos and Central Monemvasia have more political importance than the less populated provinces (Doria, Caldyonia). The Synklētos was created after 1867 democratic revolution.

Elections are held every four years, unless a special election is called. Men and more recently, women since 1976, over the age of 18, are permitted to vote provided they can show proof of citizenship. Turnout is usually around 55-60% The election process is generally regarded as free, although corporations and the wealthy are allowed to make unlimited campaign contributions to their chosen candidates.

The Synklētos voted to hold special elections on September 18th. There are a number of new political factions that will make an impact this go around.

The Synklētos historically is conservative, although socialist parties have been making inroads over the past decade. The current ruling party is the Monemvasian Conservative Union (MCU), a fairly new party which most known for returning the monarchy to the country in 2014. In early 2015, the Nationalist Alliance Front (NAF) broke off from the MCU. The NAF is a reactionary, Monemvasia first party which is running on an anti-World Assembly platform. Two leftist parties are expected to make gains; the Socialist Alliance and the People's Union. The Socialist Alliance is an old party, with a traditional base of support in Caldyonia Province. The People's Union was created in late 2014 and is anticolonial, and will likely press for reduced military spending. It is seen as being a reaction to and supported by Zorganese influence.

The current Prime Minister, Alexios Stathopoulus, is the founder of the MCU. A new prime minister will be selected by Synklētos vote after the elections. It is speculated that Stathopoulus, who is now 72 years old, will decide not to be nominated as prime minister due to declining health.

Tax Reduction Causes Controversy

Postby Entrits » Sat Sep 12, 2015 7:45 pm

Image

Today, Novák Ezra announced a new bill that would dramatically reduce taxes in hope of increasing Entritsian gross national product (GNP). The administration hopes to pinpoint the consumerist marketplace that makes up over 70% of GNP. A reduction of taxes will increase the money supply that consumerist use to by commodities. The administration hopes that decreasing de-incentivization tax burdens will boost the economy.

But critics are calling the administrations decision "drastic and irresponsible," especially after the administration has been increasing funding to Entritsian Aeronautical and Space Association (EASA) and the Department of National Defense and Peace (DNDP). Critics also have noted that i the country is going to stay out of deficit spending, cuts are going to have to made somewhere, most likely from healthcare and social spending. The Democratic Liberal Party (DLP) and the Labor Socialist Party (LSP) have announced their dissatisfaction for the bill and have called for all members in parliament to vote against the bill.

"The administration has shown callous and irresponsible actions towards the Entritsian people by demeaning what they have worked so hard for. I want to remind the majority party that this is not in the interest of the Entritsian people and this should be taken as an insult upon all Entritsians," spoke Aileen Sigrun, head of the LSP.

It looks as if, especially with the addition of the Nationalistic Cruitsian Party (CNP) that the bill will be accepted by parliament.

Preliminary Election Results

Although final results are still being tabulated after polls closed late Friday night, it appears as if the Synklētos will be the most divided it has been in the past 100 years.

As expected, the Monemvasia Conservative Union (MCU) seized most of the seats in Komenos and Doria, although the National Alliance Front (NAF) managed to convince approximately a quarter of the voting base to switch allegiances. In Central Monemvasia, the Socialist Alliance did better than expected, taking at least 35 seats, although the MCU continues to dominate this province. Turnout for Socialist Alliance voters was high in other provinces as well; the Caldyonian Courier estimates that they will have almost 100 of 500 total seats, their best showing since 2004. Voters were most divided in East and West Trogir. The People's Union did gain some support in outlying areas of Trogir (probably taking around 25 seats in total). The NAF put most of its campaign funds into West Trogir, probably taking at least 30 seats there, while the MCU grabbed most of the rest.

Full results will be released in the next 24-72 hours.

Final Election Results, MCU Retains Control of the Synklētos

Initial reports of a divided Synklētos turned out to be overblown; the Monemvasian Conservative Union has retained control, despite a party split with the Nationalist Alliance Front. The MCU's victory was thanks to overwhelming support in Komenos Province. The Socialist Alliance did not win enough seats to form a viable opposition bloc with the radical leftist People's Union party. The result of the elections means Monemvasian policy will likely continue its current course, and the monarchy will retain its political backing in the Synklētos.

Shortly after the announcement of the MCU's victory, founder of the party and current prime minister, Alexios Stathopoulus, has announced he will step down on October 1st, citing health issues. His strong, but steady leadership of the MCU will be missed.

Any idea of a deal between the MCU and the Nationalist Alliance Front was quickly dismissed by NAF leader, Alexandra Melis, who stated "As long as Monemvasia remains in the World Assembly, there will be no compromises of any kind." The stubbornness of the NAF likely means that the MCU will fill most minister positions, and the prime ministership, with members of their own party.

Urban Expansion in Kul

Postby Entrits » Tue Sep 29, 2015 7:43 am

Image

Last Friday the Entritsian Parliament voted to allow private contractors to bid for use small urban expansions on the island of Kul. Known for its largely untouched pine forests and rocky Mountain trails, the island of Kul has become a major attraction to tourism in the region. The bill looks to capitalize on this by creating the infrustructure to allow the island of Kul to be a spot from families, hikers, and vacationers to stay.

There was decent opposition to the bill by moderate liberals as the bill allows private contractors to build large infrustructure projects that liberals claim will destroy the environment. "The state needs to be able to keep track of its carbon footprint and this won't help. Private industry is notorious for using short cuts and loopholes for an extra Crit," replied Democratic Liberal leader Miklos Lekszi.

But proponents of the plan assure the public that these private stakeholders will be properly regulated with extreme health and enviromental regulations. "The Bill does everything in its possibility to regulated and uphold the integrity of the environment. The reason for the attraction to the island is its enviroment. We look to keep it thay way," replied a Parliament House Member.

Current plans, depending on contractors, could reach billions of dollars worth of monetary gain from resort(s) and other infrustructure projects. While current plans have not been fleshed out, the possibility of the small trading port within Kul expanding is a large possibility.

Massacre in Creitel

Postby Hzarland » Tue Oct 13, 2015 11:27 am

127 were killed and hundreds wounded yesterday after Hzarland National Police and Monemvasian private security forces opened fire on demonstrating workers in Creitel.

The strike began on October 7th at Artemis Defense subsidiary facility in Creitel, Hzarland. Artemis Defense is a major Monemvasian arms manufacturer that makes the Situational Awareness and Networking System (SANS) and the Artemis Soft Kill Active Defense System. Monemvasian businesses openly utilize Hzarland's low corporate tax rates and lax labor laws to lessen manufacturing costs for high end products. The 127 dead were mostly members of Hzarland's tiny middle class of skilled workers. The worker were asking for a 50% increase in wages.

When questioned, Hzarland National Police officials claimed the strikers opened fire with "military grade" weapons and the police were forced to defend themselves. Hzarland has strict firearms laws so it currently seems doubtful that the strikers could have had access to these weapons. Artemis Defense refused to comment.

Eugen Alexiou sworn in as Prime Minister

Image

Finally, after a lengthy back and forth within the Synklētos, Eugen Alexiou has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister. Eugen Alexiou was born in 1959 into the wealthy Alexiou family, owners of the Asopos Engineering shipbuilding corporation. Like most Monemvasian politicians, he served in the Armed Forces, reaching the rank of Lieutenant in the Navy before completing his term of service in 1984. Contrary to his family's expecations, Eugen Alexiou decided to forgo a career in shipbuilding, instead opting to become a manager in the Republic Financial Corporation. Eugen Alexiou became a member of the executive board in 1993 before beginning a political career two years later. Running as a member of the small fiscal conservative Wealth and Prosperity Party, he failed to win in his initial election in 1996. He later secured a seat in the Synklētos in 1998. He became a member of the body's Financial Committee and impressed its members with his vast knowledge of economic affairs. He became the committee's head in 2010, and oversaw Monemvasia's stunning recovery from the recession of the early 2000's. With the return of the monarchy, Alexiou switched his party affiliation to the Monemvasian Conservative Union.

Seen as a moderate, Eugen Alexiou is expected to continue Monemvasia's current policies. Although Prime Minister Alexiou comes to power in a time of unprecedented prosperity and stability, he will likely be challenged in the coming months with a growing crisis in Hzarland, Monemvasia's most important trade partner.

New Report

Postby Entrits » Fri Nov 06, 2015 3:01 pm

National Religion

Image

Two weeks ago the Entritsian Parliament announced the adoption of Vifism as the national religion of the Parliamentary Democracy of Entrits much to the contempt of minority parties in the left and moderate conservatives. The night before the bill came to vote, Fredek Dúel, the Cruitsian Nationalistic Party (CNP) leader came to an agreement with enough members of the Democratic Conservative Party (DCP) for the bill to pass the parliamentary floor. As expected, Novák Ezra, the Prime Minister and leader of the DCP, announced that he would not support the bill because it "rejected the primary purpose of the new Entritsian system... that allows, fundamentally, the separation of church and state." But Prime Minister Ezra was unable to garner enough support from his own party allowing around 50% to vote for the religious bill.

Backlash by other political parties has been rather severe. The Democratic Liberal Party (DLP) and Labor Socialist Party (LSP) have been very vocal on their opposition of the bill. After the vote passed parliament the LSP, in an act of defiance, walked out on of the parliament floor with about 10% of the DLP party. Aileen Sigrun, the LSP party leader, was quoted saying, "this bill is a disgrace to everything the new system as worked to fix. This just shows that Minister Ezra cannot keep control of his own party and should be replace."

Public sentiment towards the bill is rather split. More conservative and religious northern regions have show very positive reactions to the new bill while reactions from southern districts have been negative. From recent polls it seems that 51% of the population agree with bill while 49% do not with a statistical error of 3%.

The Bill required a nominal head of Vifism be elected through delegation of the parliament. Candidates have not yet been announced.

Conflict Among Parliamentary Members about the Wolfussia State

Image

The Glorious Empire Of Wolfussia has recently announced the "purification" and "killing" of rebel groups in the southern most province of Ikke, creating a small commotion in Parliament.

This afternoon, far left wing party affiliates (LSP) brought the event to the floor in hopes of addressing the issue. It seems that it is the consensus of most of the far right that Entrits needs to "diligently watch" the progress of events in the Wolfussian State for humanitarian violations. Siting previous acts by the state to address humanitarian violence, the LSP warns that if proper action is not taken by Entrits then it could set a dangerous precedence to other countries in the region.

"We do not want radical right wing parties to be taking over Korovia. These nations see hyper nationalistic behavior, violence, and degradation of human right. While, I do not believe violence is the proper action for Entrits, we should be sending a clear message that you can not just burn peoples livelihoods to the ground," commented a member of the LSP.

Far right winged party members have been rather silent about the issue and have yet to comment on the state of affairs. But majority party members have asked for the strategic calming of the far left winged party. "We do not know the reason for the insurgency or the inner-workings of the Wolfussian state is still rather vague. We should be patient before we condemn or condone nations," replied Prime Minister Ezra. Novák Ezra is largely known for his military and intelligence service against the violent Cruitsian group before the peace this last year. Many left wing party members believe he is sympathetic to the Wolfussian cause.
