S I G M A
The Special Interests Ground Missions Activity

The SIGMA Special Operations Group was activated in 2022 as a multi-national special operations force for the conducting of the most complex, classified, and dangerous missions directed by the Special Operations Command Authority. The member nations of this Authority consisted of all sitting members allied with the United States of America under NATO as well as their Pacific partners and regional allies. Deployed utilizing then state-of-the-art combat exo-suits called AMOS (Advanced Mobility Operation Suit), the unit conducted clandestine and top-secret combat operations across the world until 2025, when an attempted domestic terrorist assault on significant national infrastructure in the United States was launched en masse.

In the resulting media coverage of the incident, the unit was identified as having operated against the mandate of the United States Constitution as a foreign military actor and was ordered to be subsequently deactivated. The unit was reported as having been deactivated from it's primary base of operations somewhere in North Dakota by August, 2026. Members of the unit have remained under Congressional Investigation to the current day. In direct opposition to the original executive order made by the United States President, an international investigation determined SIGMA to be an exceedingly valuable asset for joint-force special operations and was reactivated in January, 2027 at an undisclosed location somewhere in the Arctic Circle. Though several reports and private investigations have been attempted at revealing the location of the hidden base and the current operations of the SIGMA-SOG, no confirmed location of their base of operations has been determined.

SIGMA-SOG still operates in a counter-terrorism and special-reconnaissance capability across the world as is suspected to have recently conducted operations in the South China Sea regarding the disappearance of a Chinese Nuclear Submarine. Active calls from the United Nations Security Council to disclose the identities of all active and retired members of the SIGMA-SOG have yet to be heeded and many debate on the value of naming the organization as a rogue military element in spite of the involvement of multiple government entities.

SIGMA-SOG is still actively recruiting members into its ranks from the top special operations forces of nations aligned with the United States of America and conducts active operations throughout the world in the interests of preserving the national security of the member nations. Government Liaisons from all but two nations are actively present at the new SIGMA base of operations and intelligence reports from top members of the international intelligence community provide active leads and information regarding high-value targets and personnel under observation from SIGMA. Operations reports will be posted under this section at the completion of an operation, as well as debriefings and analysis of the operation's impact on the designated area of influence.

Operation Rules:
1. Operators begin an operation Healthy and with all armor protection afforded by gear and their Chassis.
2. AMOS begin an operation with their total Power and can no longer use active or passive electronic systems once they reach 0.
3. Operators receive Sync by partaking actively in an operation, and by completing objectives in said operation.
4. Operators receive 1 Weapon Qualification Point for every ten targets they engage and assist in neutralizing during an operation.
5. Operators will not engage in overtly competitive or endangering activities during a combat operation that do not pertain to the completion of the mission objectives specified in the briefing.

Personnel that have been inducted into the SIGMA-SOG undergo extensive background investigations prior to joining. Each dossier covers various personal and professional aspects of the members of SIGMA as well as their designated AMOS exosuit. Initial entry into an AMOS requires a period of synchronization with their suit and as such limits the additional modifications which can be safely added to the system. Additionally, blank templates for incoming SIGMA personnel and their exo-suits will be provided in the coded section below.

SIGMA-SOG Personnel Data Sheet Template
The following form is for the purpose of quickly in-processing SIGMA-SOG Operators and determining key factors regarding their history prior to SIGMA and during their service with it.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Fill out the application as prompted using all information as can best be supplied.
2. Select a 'Callsign' by using the name of a significant political or military leader from your operator's nation of origin (Americans would use the name of a US General, Congressperson, Judge, or President for example).
3. Do not alter the Data Sheet as it is also an application of your character and should relatively be similar in size and composition to all others in the thread. Please refer to the currently accepted and listed Personnel Data Sheets under the Personnel Dossiers to get a feeling for how yours should look. The more I have to correct yours, the less time you'll have to post and take part in the thread. Let's not waste each other's time.
4. Weapons Qualifications are awarded on a point-buy system. 5 Points are granted during character creation and can be spent on obtaining a 3rd, 2nd, or 1st Class Qualification in an Armament Category under the SIGMA Arsenal for 1, 2, and 4 points respectively. Keep in mind that Qualifications have an in-game effect and are used to keep people from becoming over-powered or over-bearing in an operation/mission.
5. AMOS Pilots will need to have an AMOS Pilot License under their Vehicle Licenses in addition to any other Licenses they may have.
6. Please keep all miscellaneous information relegated to the Remarks section under Personal Historical Record.

SIGMA-SOG AMOS Data Sheet Template
The following form is for the requisition of an Exosuit or Exosuit Modification. Use the provided resources under the SIGMA Arsenal when referencing external material.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Players all begin with 300 Sync in a Block I Chassis or 200 Sync in a Block II Chassis.
2. Block I Modules require 100 Sync, Block II Modules require 200 Sync, & Block III Modules require 400 Sync.
3. Selecting a Module does not 'spend' Sync, but rather 'occupies' it. You may switch out modules between missions, but only before a mission briefing has dropped.
5. Total Power should be written as only the final value of Power available to an AMOS during nominal operation. Active Systems will not detract from this number.

[spoiler=SIGMA Arsenal]The SIGMA-SOG is a globally active force that requires a wide-array of operational and tactical flexibility for their missions. To supplement their situational capabilities, the SIGMA Arsenal was developed to not only research, but also develop new systems and designs for the usage of AMOS Pilots and SIGMA Operators in the field. The Arsenal is split into two different sections, with one featuring the Laboratories and Munitions Foundry, where new Chassis, Components, Systems, Armaments, and Powerpacks are developed and produced; the other featuring SIGMA Armory, which certifies and obtains weaponry and personal field equipment as requested by AMOS Pilots and SIGMA operators.

The SIGMA Labs and AMOS Foundry are a catalogue of all potential modules and chassis developed by SIGMA for use in the battlefield environment. Experimental modules require testing by willing AMOS Pilots in simulated and live-fire missions. When a module has been fully tested, it will then become available for use by all personnel on their own AMOS. Modules can be changed between missions, but only before a mission briefing has been given as this is a time-consuming process which requires active involvement on the part of the Laboratories, the Foundry, and the Pilot to fine-tune the AMOS properly and ensure it will not be a hindrance to the operator or the team when deployed.

The SIGMA Armory contains a complete and exhaustive list of all Armaments, Attachments, Gear, and Support options available to a SIGMA-SOG Operator downrange. Armaments require the most care and consideration as they have the most impact on a mission, besides the operator. They are classified under three categories: Type, Effect, and Range.

TYPE: Types of Weapons determine how much ammunition, or Load, you'll be allowed to take for them on mission. They also determine various secondary factors that may synergize or conflict with your gear.
  • Primary - Primary Weapons make up the major amount of available armament in the Arsenal. They generally receive three attachments and cover a wide range of tactical uses during a mission.
  • Secondary - Secondary Weapons make up the second largest number of weapons in the Arsenal. They can usually receive two attachments and act as pinch-hitters in tough situations for their users.
  • Special - Special Weapons make up the smallest number of weapons in the Arsenal, but by are important nonetheless. Acting as niche tools for tough situations, they require extra care and consideration before use in the field and cannot mount any attachments.
EFFECT: Effect on Target is determined by considering the three major kinds of target engaged in the field, and then assigning a Load value to it. The Effect is displayed as a 3-digit number with each digit separated by a diagonal line. To neutralize a target, a total number of Load expended equal to the Effect value, must be achieved. If a 0 is shown, the weapon cannot be used to effectively neutralize a target.
  • Soft Targets - The first digit in the series, this represents how effective the weapon is against soft targets such as unarmored vehicles, infantry, and cover and concealment.
  • Hard Targets - The second digit in the series, this represents how effective the weapon is against hard targets such as heavy vehicles, armored infantry, and most buildings.
  • Armored Targets - The third digit in the series, this represents how effective the weapon is against armored targets such as AFVs, APCs, IFV's, and MBT's.
RANGE: Range is the effective distance at which a weapon can engage a target. Attempting to use a weapon outside of its range leads to heavy penalties, with the heaviest penalties being incurred when the weapon is used opposite the spectrum of range it is rated for. These penalties are called EFFECT penalties and scale off of the base EFFECT before Qualifications and buffs.
  • Close Range - The hallmark of war since the early days of man, Close Range Combat is defined as being engagements within 50 meters of a fighter. It features the highest lethality zone for soldiers in combat.
  • Near Range - When the enemy is just out of reach with your knife, but still close enough to easily draw a bead, they are at Near Range. This extends from the 50 meter line to 300 meters and is a common threshold for guns.
  • Far Range - Some weapons were designed to engage targets from a distance, being both heavy and unwieldy, or perhaps just too focused and slow-firing. This encompasses any target ranges beyond 300 meters.

QUALIFICATION: Qualification is the number of points spent to achieve a level of competency in utilizing a weapon system. If a character has no competencies with a weapon system, they must use their weapon at an Effect Penalty.
  • 3rd Class Qualification - designed to primarily give a foundation in using a weapon system, a 3rd Class Qualification requires 1 Qualification Point and allows for a weapon to be used as written on the tin without a penalty.
  • 2nd Class Qualification - designed to build upon the foundation of a soldier in a weapon system, the 2nd Class Qualification requires 3 Qualification Points spent on a weapon and lowers any Effect Penalty by 1 to a minimum of 1.
  • 1st Class Qualification - Masterful handling of a weapon system is achieved at this point, the 1st Class Qualification requiring 7 Qualification Points spent in total on a weapon and lowers any Effect Penalty by 2 to a minimum of 1.

  • Tactical Navigation Assistance Tablet: A Global-Positioning-System-linked Satellite-interfacing tablet that provides real-time navigational position updates of major weather systems, magnetic anomalies, local terrain within a predescribed area, and BLUFORCE/SIGMA-TACOPS units. Provides an update every 30 seconds and lasts for 12 continuous hours on a single charge. Can act as an homing beacon for Extraction and Search-and-Rescue. Can be network linked to Support Systems for Guided Weapon strikes.
  • Tactical Weapons Optics System: Individual optical enhancements for use on a weapon, to provide Accurate fire on targets of interest within range. Can be ranged for 300m, 600m, and 1km engagements. Can be integrated with existing optical systems to be used in all Visibility Conditions. Can be utilized as a rangefinder if networked to a laser-emitter/receiver array and can provide computerized zeroing if connected to appropriate fire-support systems. [Munitions Expenditure is Quartered]
  • Tactical Weapons Munitions System: Individual munitions supply system that allows for the replacement of 4 Primary Munitions for a Special Primary Munition that can be used via the Primary Weapon. Must be selected before deployment or during a resupply and once used cannot be recycled. Special Primary Munitions include Guided Rounds, Explosive Rounds, Armor-Penetrating Rounds, Non-lethal Rounds, Subsonic Rounds, and Incendiary Rounds. [-4 Primary Load for 1 Specialist Primary Load as Predetermined and Authorized for use from Command]
Field Supports and Intelligence
All Personnel have 1 Slot for Support and Intelligence Options

  • Satellite Observation: Able to be utilized once every 90-120 minutes, SIGMA-SOG can patch into existing spy/observation satellites present in LEO to obtain detailed scans and renderings of a designated Area of Operations down to 10cm fidelity of a 500m area. These requests must be made roughly one pass ahead of schedule, as the window of opportunity for obtaining imagery is limited and can only be done once a day to avoid tracing of the patch by international intelligence entities.
  • Drone Overwatch: Able to be utilized once every 120-180 minutes, SIGMA-SOG can obtain telemetry and control of an allied spy or combat drone in an area to divert to a point of interest and provide observation of during a 20 minute window. This cannot be done for longer than 10 minutes due to the sensitive nature of the assets involved and must be requested 120-180 minutes before the required time on target. Equipment synchronized to the drone will be able to utilize thermal, infrared, and visible light camera optics with a 2cm resolution at 500m.
  • Supply Drop: Able to be utilized once every 24 hours, SIGMA-SOG will dispatch a stealth-transport to a predetermined location along a pre-determined flight path to drop operation-essential supplies such as munitions and gear. All Supply Drops must be scheduled 72 hours beforehand and cannot place the transport into obvious danger or under threat. If airspace is compromised during the supply drop, the transport will immediately attempt exfiltration and dump its cargo if not already offloaded. Downed transports will be considered mission priority objectives to be secured and cleared of sensitive items and personnel before destruction to avoid SIGMA-SOG assets to fall into enemy hands.
  • Local Intelligence Contact: The SIGMA Intelligence department is capable of likely obtaining information on any active intelligence agents operating with any allied government's intelligence agency in a given location. While most local intelligence contacts will likely be unwilling to share too much information, vital intel -if not direct aid- can still be obtained by assisting them for a time. Though the form of assistance will likely vary from asset to asset, handlers will most always be capable of obtaining a location and a motivation that can be used to persuade a contact to be more cooperative if need be. Contacts must be requested before an operation has begun and can only be used once.
  • Emergency Extraction: While most missions go according to plan, there is not a guarantee that greater complexities will not arise during the execution of a mission. As such, an emergency extraction can be called for from an allied nation's special forces. This can only be used once per mission and can take between 1-24 hours to receive support and extraction. These are not SIGMA-SOG forces and will not assist in the completion of mission-essential objectives and cannot be put into direct danger to conduct an emergency extraction.
  • Spectre Squadron Tactical Combat Sweep: The pilots of Spectre Stealth Strike Squadron are among the top pilots in the world, recruited to provide immediate, on-site support, to active SIGMA-SOG units during pre-designated operations. Generally on standby in nearby airspace, a flight of four can quickly move from a stand-off position to strike enemy forces that threaten to overwhelm a SIGMA-SOG operation, before quickly retreating out of contested or hostile airspace to reset and prepare for another attack. Begin with a limited amount of munitions and will attack until Winchester on ammo. They are replaced by a new flight of four every twelve hours until a pre-determined time during which they will egress from the airspace. Requires an active communications link or pre-designated signals to conduct CAS, munitions equipped will be pre-determined before the start of an operation and can differ between flights.
  • SIGMA-SOG Strike Team: SIGMA-SOG prides itself on not only fielding the most complex and complete teams of AMOS pilots, but also in their usage of the most well-trained operators for use in supporting AMOS pilots in the field. During an operation, a pre-determined team of six SIGMA-SOG operators will be placed on Standby and can be brought in to help assault a position or complete a mission objective and will carry out this operation to the best of their ability. If the Strike team is overwhelmed or placed in danger of being overrun, they will retreat from combat. If they sustain greater than 50% casualties, they will retreat from the battlefield. They generally utilize STANAG 5.56mm munitions and each possess 8 Primary Munitions Loads and 1 Special Load if applicable. They will also utilize Gear as mission-appropriate for the operation and maintaining their safety and can provide basic medical assistance during combat.
  • Cruise Missile Strike: SIGMA-SOG retains access to an incredibly limited arsenal of non-ballistic long-range cruise missiles. Placed on standby during a pre-determined mission of importance, they can be used once in a salvo of three missiles that will strike hardened targets of strategic value once given a laser-homing frequency or GPS coordinate. They will fly a pre-specified route until a hand-off point during which the Missile will execute a pre-programmed evasive maneuver on approach to target, or will fixate and fly directly to a target point as according to specified targeting measure. Changing the targeting measure takes 60 minutes, changing the approach method takes 180 minutes.
  • Tactical Vehicle Drop: Often times, a tactical vehicle may come more in handy for an operation than an AMOS, and AMOS pilots understand this more than anyone. Using a pre-determined route, a single Tactical Vehicle can be flown in via a SIGMA stealth-transport with a small cache of supplies for use with the vehicle. While not offering as many supplies as a Supply Drop, the Tactical Vehicle deployed can determine the tempo of an operation and how additional actions are carried out. Vehicles provided often have enough fuel and power to last for nearly 12 hours of continuous operation until needing more supplies.
  • OMEGA Protocol: A last-ditch support effort to accomplish a major mission objective, available SIGMA assets will be brought into immediate mobilization and standby in the preparation of a large assault on a heavily fortified or protected location that is otherwise unassailable. This can only be executed under the most dire of circumstances and cannot be used if not pre-determined by a ground team that has thoroughly observed and conducted reconnaissance of a potential OMEGA-protocol target. Usage of this Support will likely result in increased media speculation and attention as well as all the consequences that entails for ongoing SIGMA-SOG operations around the world.

SIGMA - First Call [OPEN for Application]

Postby Kassaran » Thu Oct 10, 2019 11:21 pm

I am now declaring this thread open for the perusal and application of the best and finest aspiring AMOS pilots there are. Make sure you get up to speed as well you can and feel free to ask questions about every little thing that your heart may desire. Whether I answer it will depend on if I can get you one at all or not. I'll be looking forward to reading all of your applications and seeing what interesting mixes you all come up with. Do make sure to not mess with the formatting of the available applications and make sure to pay attention to how Sync and Power is spent and displayed so you don't end up gimping yourself in a mission in case you're selected.

For those of you wanting to lurk or get up to speed on how things might work around here if all goes well, catch up on the OP between bickering and chatter here. I update it infrequently and generally fail to annotate accordingly in the changelog.

Tag.

Hopefully I have time.

Edit: Looks quite complex, but I can figure this out.

Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well, this happened because after a failed attempt at a corporatocracy, Serbia was left with a pseudo-nationalist government which was incompetent to say the least. Following a revolution, a slightly authoritarian social democracy was established. More nations were incorporated as time went on. Now it's slightly-self sustaining and technologic advanced.

Again, if you need any help, let me know. It's not all that difficult and the application is surprisingly easy to fill out. I was planning on actually making Dossiers for all of the primary support characters that could be found within the SIGMA Base of Operations.

What do you mean by dependents?

Edit: So far I'm assuming it means members of my family who give me economic support.

Yes, it's basically those who actually depend upon your character for economic support. It's just a way to give a number to how many people are near and dear to your character while seeming still cold enough for a simple overview of the character at a glance.

Thanks.
Anyway, I'll try my best with all the military related stuff. I'm no expert and you clearly know a lot more then I do.

Unfortunately a great majority of them are pre-occupied at the moment, which in turn has slowed the RP drastically. I expect a couple may join if you ask them.

Done, not sure if i've done the AMOS thing right. I'm a little confused on that front.

So, few things; I'm definitely interested in roleplaying but I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to military backgrounds. Could I get some tips on roleplaying them?

Secondly, how do AMOS units look? Are they exoskeletons similar to MJOLNIR armor from Halo?

Thirdly, there is not a section of our application for our decisions on equipment from the Sigma Armory. Is this because we'll be picking those mission to mission depending on what is necessary?

Under Sync, you place your total Sync you have been allotted as a character. So if you chose a Block I AMOS Chassis, then you have 300 Sync, and if you chose a Block II Chassis, then you have 200. That is your starting spending, save unless you're trying to get yourself in on ground level as someone whom has already been in SIGMA for a minute, then I'll award extra Sync as seen fit.

A bit of in-world lore: Operation Olympus was effectively the United States Special Operation to take down a massive domestic terror group which had begun to actively carry out a massed attack on government infrastructure and civilian populations to affect US global policy. SIGMA was deployed too thin at every major hot-spot and suffered extensive casualties resulting in almost all 15 of the original AMOS pilots becoming casualties. Most of those 15 did not survive or return to the program and so SIGMA was going to be permanently shuttered. SIGMA managed to pull through only because of extensive support from its international beneficiaries and has now begun recruiting new personnel.

Aidannadia wrote:So, few things; I'm definitely interested in roleplaying but I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to military backgrounds. Could I get some tips on roleplaying them?

Definitely, there's more than enough desire to help on my part and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Secondly, how do AMOS units look? Are they exoskeletons similar to MJOLNIR armor from Halo?
That's roughly the scale and design concept. You can also use the Power Suits from Starship Troopers, Power Armor from Fallout, and anything else roughly in that scale as being appropriately sized and proportioned.

Thirdly, there is not a section of our application for our decisions on equipment from the Sigma Armory. Is this because we'll be picking those mission to mission depending on what is necessary?

Ding Ding! We have a winner! Individual loadout and gear changes from mission to mission, so thus there's not going to be a fixed or 'standard' loadout. This is part of the mission-planning requirement and also having to deal with limited supplies during the extent of a mission. The most standard a loadout you get is the one that is installed to your AMOS, which costs Sync. Sync is effectively experience used to obtain modules, but its written-in lore-wise to be the space of changes your mind could allowably handle occurring to your AMOS and become used to in the course of a 4-6 hour training session.

AMOS use neural, eye, and manually-cued systems which require a lot of self-control and self-discipline on the part of the operators. Never-mind that there is a massive strain on the body and mind when you're stuck in a suit for literal hours, having to overcome the potential claustrophobic effects of having taken damage or being under stress while in that environment.

On that note, onto the applications!

For the personnel application, ensure you've properly capitalized 'AMOS Pilot' as it is a job name and thus a proper noun. Drop the picture size to 200px by 200 px please to better accommodate the size of the thread and the formatting design. Defense branch listing should be Capitalized as it is a Proper noun (so 'British Army' not 'army'). Same with all times it used afterwards. Otherwise, everything else in the application looks great. Now, in regards to your AMOS application, Your total Sync should be 300 or 200 flat depending on your chosen Chassis. No one else has yet been awarded historical sync as no one else has been accepted as a historical SIGMA operator yet. As for your power level, only place the end value. I'll do the kwik-maffs for determining anything else. Otherwise, the application looks fine. I'll make an official acceptance post here in a while when I get back from my friend's place.

For your personnel application, please make sure the 'Last Name, First M:' test is reentered appropriately. You don't have a picture, any reason why? For Defense Branch, I have no idea if the SAS is considered a separate branch of the Armed Forces, or if it is under the British Army. Please limit your Defense Branch to the highest distinct organizational element. Same under the Years of Service (Branch), with having your highest organizational element being present. If the Royal Commandos are separate from the British Army, then you may keep them. I'd also like information on the Tunisian Crisis, Operation Black Torch, and when Captain Asheford would have joined SIGMA to be present in the US for Olympus. The rest of the application looks good.
For Sync, that will be a flat 300 or 200 depending on the Chassis you've chosen, but it appears you're trying to make a historical SIGMA operator. I'll be looking forward to awarding additional historical sync once we've discussed that further. For the Shadow, you'd have 300 Sync currently with your chosen Block I Chassis. Your Power value only needs to show the final amount of Power at the end of it all which would be the full 200 as WPM is not a passive and does not activate until turned on. Additionally include the description for the Smoke Screen Discharger so additional references to the Arsenal don't have to be made. Otherwise, the application looks good and I look forward to our conversation on Captain Asheford's previous involvement in SIGMA.

  • Directional IR Counter-Measures: Installs a Manually Activated Flare Discharger [Provides 6 Decoy Thermal Signatures for 2-6 seconds - 2 Charges]

  • BLUFORCE Tracker Display: Installs software designed to indicate the location of friendly units and their broadcasted status, as well as broadcasting your status and position to all networked friendly units. [-100 Power]

For your personnel application, please ensure you reenter the Last Name, First M: correctly with the name being posted after the prompt. Please resize your image to fit within 200px by 200px to accommodate thread size and formatting. Your Defense Branch would also be the 'Israeli Army' not the 'Israel Army'. For Height, please include the total height in cm and in inches (") as you did in the Weight category. Under Distinguishing Marks, remark 'None' if Sergeant Anom has none, or specify the mark followed by a brief description of where it is (in parentheses). Otherwise, your application looks good.

For your AMOS application, your Sync should be 300 or 200 flat depending on your chosen Chassis. For you, it would be 200 having chosen a Block II Chassis. You additionally have gone over your allotted Sync budget by mounting three Block II Modules. With 200 Sync, you can obtain only one under the instructions posted above the code for creating an AMOS Data Sheet. Power should also be changed to reflect only your total available power. Thermal Optics won't count against this value as they must be activated in order to be considered passively engaged, but the BLUFORCE Tracker however would negatively impact your total power by bringing it 300. This is if you decide to keep one of these two Block II Modules to be your only Module. Otherwise the application looks fine.

I'll get to your application after I get back Aidanna, I've already made my friends wait in their car long enough. Sorry for the delay but I will get back to you. Everyone else, make the needed Edits and I'll include you in my next post.

Needs a personnel application. I'm guessing you already figured that though. As for the AMOS application, Sync is a fixed number like Experience in some games. It shows the maximum potential changes that can be made to a base AMOS Pilot's setup before they likely become mentally broken. Power also needs to be updated to only reflect the total remaining power after passive subtractions. Everything else looks good to me! Looking forward to your personnel application.
