Jaslandia: The Myrish military is directly responsible to the High Queen, though the person it usually works through is the High Queen's Spymaster. You could do that. The military isn't seeing very much action, and doesn't expect much for the time being.

Garius Menophon

Born in 1485, Garius is the second son of Lanindas Menophon, Duke of Greensborough in southern Myr. Garius’s family is of Greek and Myrish descent, with the family having been granted a fiefdom by the High King in 1449. With the succession of the Greensborough fiefdom seeming guaranteed to Lanindas’s eldest son Artur, Garius pursued the path of a soldier. At the age of 16, Garius used his father’s influence to obtain an officer position in the army of the High Queen. Garius’s bravery and strategic mind caused him to rise through the ranks, and he also proved popular with the men he commanded, eating with them and living in conditions similar to that of the common soldier. Garius soon attracted the notice of prominent military commanders, and starting in 1510, Garius became the protégé of the general Godfry Martius.

With Garius rising through the ranks, his influence was on the rise, and he soon became one of the most eligible bachelors in the army. In 1515, Garius married Augusta Kariguyes, daughter of one of the most prominent noble families in Myr. The two were devoted to each other, and the year after their marriage, they gave birth to a son, Garius Menophon the Younger. A daughter Emylyna was born in 1518, and a second daughter named Arabella was born in 1523.

In 1525, at the age of 40, Garius Menophon was appointed commander of the armies of southern Myr. The next year, the Bankers’ Revolt broke out. Harnessing the complaints of the banking and merchant classes, the general Jarod Sulwin formed an army and marched on the capital. Garius quickly rallied his southern army and marched north, breaking the siege of Myrávia and forcing Sulwin’s army to hastily retreat. However, Sulwin regrouped, and began to terrorize the Myrish countryside. Garius and his army, now joined by the army of the Earl of White Haven, chased Sulwin for two years, fighting numerous battles in which Garius and the Earl usually emerged victorious, until a final confrontation at the Battle of Marston Moor. Sulwin’s army was routed, and Sulwin himself was captured by Garius’s forces and executed.

Garius returned to Myrávia and received a hero’s welcome. High Queen Rhiannyn, pleased with Garius’s heroic victories, awarded the triumphant general numerous honors. In 1529, Garius’s older brother Artur was assassinated. Critics of the High Queen alleged that Rhiannyn had Artur killed to ensure the succession of her favorite Garius to the fief of Greensborough; however, the veracity of these claims was never fully determined, and some question whether Garius was even a favorite of the High Queen at all. Regardless, when Garius’s father Lanindas died in 1532, Garius become Duke of Greensborough, and he retired to his country estate to run his fief.

Garius’s retirement proved to last only four years. In 1536, Garius was called to the Royal Court at Myrávia and appointed High General of the Myrish Army. Now a full-time resident at Rhiannyn’s court, Garius has attempted to get into the good graces of both the High Queen and her daughter Kateira. Garius hopes to become the right-hand man of Kateira once she ascends to the throne, and due to having the full support and command of the Myrish army, Garius wields enormous influence in Myr. Still, Garius’s stern and no-nonsense attitude has been somewhat off-putting to other court nobles, with some quietly expressing fears that Garius seeks to use his army to gain the throne of Myr for himself. While in reality Garius has no such ambitions, many are still weary of the now 54-year old general, and Garius still has obstacles to overcome in order to become the most powerful man in Myr.
