[PASSED] Repeal SC#180: Liberate CAPS

Postby Misley » Mon Jun 22, 2015 5:20 pm

Repeal "Liberate Congress of Armed Proletarian States"

The Security Council,

Stressing that WA Security Council Resolution #180, "Liberate Congress of Armed Proletarian States" is rendered ineffective by the destruction of the region;

Promulgating that this intentional destruction of the Congress of Armed Proletarian States (CAPS) was carried out by craven ideological zealots to prevent the former native members of CAPS from ever returning to their region;

Emphasizing that earnest diplomacy was employed to attempt to gain right of return by the former native members of CAPS who were rebuffed by these ideological crusaders;

Concerned that regions under active discussion by the World Assembly can be destroyed without further recourse;

Taking note that CAPS was not itself engaged in ideological warfare but rather dedicated to improving diplomacy and interregional ties;

Reaffirming the right of native communities to self-determination;

Emphasizing further that the former native members of CAPS may rightly seek further retribution for this crime;

Hereby Repeals Security Council Resolution #180: Liberate Congress of Armed Proletarian States.

Co-Author: Misley

This is just my opinion, but I'd replace "made ineffectual" with "rendered ineffective" in the first clause. Just sounds more direct. As for everything including and after clause three, it just sounds too wordy and indirect to me. Like on clause three, "attempt gain right of return to " could be shortened to "regain".

Thanks for the critique. I have gone through and made a few edits. OP is edited with the current draft, a redline version showing what's been changed, and the original draft as posted.

Alas, not everyone appreciates poetry. Catullus elevated invective poetry to an artform in Catullus 16, which opens with the spicy Latin "Fuck you both and suck my dick."

*does that Italian hand-kiss thing* Marvelous.

Appreciated. :) Of course, it would have been nice to have this support eight months ago, but what's done is done.

This has been submitted by Proletaire, who originally founded CAPS through the puppet Teksi. Text in the OP is updated to the submitted version.

Liberate CAPS recently passed, now up for repeal. Is this some kind of silly joke?
The EU referendum result is illegitimate, to paraphrase Pedro Sanchez, you cannot have a binary yes/no question to solve complex problems. Essentially, the masses get no overall say in the policy Brexit negotiation process deal or whatever the deal will be. The referendum was wholly undemocratic!

CAPS was refounded, so the liberation has no effect. There is no point in keeping it on the books. If it's not repealed now (which would surprise the shit out of me) it'll just be repealed later by someone looking for a SC author badge.

Close the loop

Postby Naginii » Fri Jun 26, 2015 8:33 am

You'd think so.

Apparently the WASC has the time to waste on this. They passed a pointless Lib for a microscopic region with a disinterested, displaced native population — for largely symbolic reasons, since the region refounded during the debate. Once the region was refounded, and the original logic behind the Lib rendered moot, the logical reaction should have been to try and shut the prop down. No, instead they continued to lobby for it on symbolic reasons, and managed to get 10k WA DG enablers to help pass a completely useless LIb.

Even better, this Repeal prop was on the floor and gaining support before the Lib prop had even passed.

My vote is against. If it was worth passing in the first place, then it's worth letting stand for awhile. You passed a Lib prop for a refounded region, let that sink-in and think about it. I've been demanding for some time that this body needs to discipline itself to use it's head more than it's heart when it comes to Libs and C/C props; not every little regional problem deserves WASC attention, and there has got to be some kind of at least short-term consequence for this body getting it wrong.

A circle has no end.

Why?

Cause why not? Having a liberation remain in place doesn't change anything. If anything it makes it look purrty. Don't see why we need to run this through the SC.

Of course it doesn't change anything. That's why this resolution is being repealed.

A toothless Liberation is an easy target for anyone looking to add an SC author badge. This resolution coming up for Repeal is inevitable. The passage of such a repeal is inevitable. That is a statement of fact, not a controversial opinion. We might as well get it over with and allow the members behind CAPS to have the final word than unnecessarily delay what we all know is going to happen.

So what if another delegation wants to snag an easy badge. It's not like the SC is incredibly busy. We go days without an agenda.

I have no idea what's happening: the region seems the same before and after the liberation (still only 2 nations in it), and the repeal arguments seems to be in favor to keep the liberation (something is missing or is badly worded I guess).
So voted against this repeal.

CAPS is still password locked and the two nations inside are refusing to leave. Can we please another way to liberate CAPS?

I am voting against the repeal.

It's the principle of the thing, authors badges should not be freebies. They're supposed to mean you could convince your peers to do something, not that you can remind them that we never repealed a useless piece of legislation. If you want an authors badge, it is the opinion of many that you need to earn it.

The whole process of liberation and repeal has involved nugatory staff work from the moment CAP was refounded.
