The wild west in Pavonistade refers to a region where no human life has actually been detected. The region includes the two islands located to the west of the main island (where Pavonistadeck, Vadopolis, etc. is on). This has been the case since the 20th century.
This lack of population can be explained by looking at what is known as the Western Curse. It, having appeared in around 1600 CE, led to decimation of human life in the affected area and it drove surviving natives out of the affected parts. Interestingly the Western Curse did not travel with the survivors. It is likely a viral hemorrhagic fever, although the responsible agent is never known.
The unexplained continued haunting the wild west. People that have ventured too deep into the cursed place never returned to the region, and no records of such travellers came after they left for whatever trip they were going on. Several colonies and posts that were set up in the wild west were eventually decimated like the unfortunate indigenous all those years ago. Even though the region was "cursed", pockets of indigenous people managed to live in the area without ever facing unexplained disasters. By the early 20th century the Pavonistadian Government, then part of Luziyca as a Dominion, reported that no humans reside in the wild west.
The Pavonistadian Government has done quite a bit to oversee the wild west. A notable instance is the establishment of the Wild West Line, an imaginary boundary on the main island that separates uninhabited Pavonistade from populated Pavonistade. The government then imposed various regulations to limit travel to the wild west, but enforcement is rarely done and they are handled only by occasional naval patrols. Even though many flights pass over and many ships pass near the wild west, those that go too far away from the Wild West Line are still bound to be lost.
People generally dare not to enter or extensively visit the wild west. That is, unless you are dealing with the Initiative for Exploration of the Pavonistadian Hiatus (IEPH). The organization have planned for an expedition since 2012, and despite delays and setbacks, the Remote Western Pavonistade Expedition (ROWPE) is ready to be commenced by May 2015. There will be two ships, one being a research vessel for scientific purposes and the other being a passenger ship (which contains up to twelve selected individuals that may tour this part of Pavonistade). It seems that everyone aboard are going to defy the curse of the wild west.
Or will they?
Welcome, Esquarians, to Stranded! Here different nationalities will be part of an expedition to explore the wild west, the first of its type in many many many years. The trip that will involve two ships will start on May 2, a Saturday. Both vessels will capsize not too long after they leave their starting city of Lokimia. Survivors will reach the coasts of the wild west and will be forced to endure in uncharted Pavonistade. Until they reach help, the people will have to abandon their daily lives and survive in a place where dominating lifeforms can overpower humans.
So before we get started, we should know some rules and notes for this RP.
- ESQUARIUM ONLY. This rule in selected threads has been violated even after the thread title says "Esquarium only" or so. If you are not Esquarian, do not post here or on the IC thread. There may be exceptions if you are asking questions, but do ask questions via telegrams or TG's.
- Respect NS rules.
- No godmodding obviously.
- No one-liners, unless there really isn't much to describe or talk about.
- OOC stuff should be reserved for the OOC thread. Keep the IC part free of clutter.
- Speaking of OOC stuff, keep OOC fighting and raging and whining out of Stranded altogether. Do all of that whatnot elsewhere.
- Characters! There will be quite a bit of regulations.
- A total of up to twelve (12) civilians may take part in the expedition
- Each country may bring up to three individuals, although it is recommended they bring one or two only.
- No puppets allowed, so there'll be more space for actual nations to take part. If I find that you're using a puppet...
- Each individuals cannot be overly intelligent. For example they may know how to treat various injuries, but not how to gather water. (Only one character is exempt from this rule.)
- All individuals are civilian only, so no country can send in scientists. Only I can.
- Pavonistade is always the OP, and his word is usually law.
- When your character dies, he or she dies and will remain so unless he or she is a victim of godmodding.
- If this RP has no new posts for
threetwo weeks, it will be declared dead and no one should post. - Regarding edits to the OP, rules, and everything else: while I'm not obliged to give notice of any edits, I would just alert participants of changes anyways.
The signups will close on 12:00 AM or 0000 hours on May 1 (PST). If there are a total of twelve approved individuals, the signups will also close. Ending the signups will depend on whichever comes first.Signups are closed.- Have fun. Yes, that's a rule; have fun.
