[PASSED] Commend Renegade Islands Alliance

Commend Renegade Islands Alliance

A resolution to recognize outstanding contribution by a nation or region.

Category: Commendation | Nominee: Renegade Islands Alliance | Proposed by: Nephmir

Description: The Security Council,

Recognizing Renegade Islands Alliance (RIA) as a prominent and active military force dedicated to protecting regions who lack the ability to protect themselves from foreign aggression,

Further Recognizing Renegade Islands Alliance as promoters of Defender Unity, while showing respect towards allies and enemies alike,

Applauding the success of the Renegade Islands Alliance Special Forces (RIASF) in successfully launching or supporting allies in more than 30 liberations and several dozen missions to free more than 300 regions from Raider control since October 2013,

Acknowledging major achievements and contributions of the RIASF, including, but not limited to:
  • December 2013: Contributing to the liberation of Asia from The Black Riders, as one of the largest liberations in history,
  • February 2014: Assisting The Founderless Regions Alliance in securing New Sorvun Republic from foreign aggression, saving it from a hostile refound, and staying during the lengthy occupation that followed,
  • May 2014: The liberation of St Abbaddon, in which the RIASF was later awarded a pin from The United Defenders League to commend their efforts,
  • June 2014: Participation in The United Defenders League's "Spring Cleaning" operation, in which more than 100 regions were freed from Raider control. The RIASF later received a medal from The United Defenders League for their efforts and contribution in the operation,
  • December 2014: Participation in the liberation of Anne Frank from Fascist control, largely considered to be one of the largest joint-Imperialist, Anti-Fascist, and Defender liberations in history,

Admiring the resilience of Renegade Islands Alliance, withstanding direct attacks from Raider organizations, after DEN destroyed the RIASF forums in 2005 and Lone Wolves United attempted and failed to seize the executive delegacy in 2015, all while the RIA still showed respect towards Raiders and emerging stronger than before after each attempted attack,

Honoring the commitment of the Renegade Island Alliance's founder, Shizensky, in establishing the RIASF and the RIA's community, who has released several tools to help Defenders defend and liberate more efficiently,

Exalting the RIA as a free and directly democratic region, in which all nations with legal citizenship are free to vote and run for government positions, including the World Assembly Delegacy,

Viewing Renegade Islands Alliance as a region that leads by example, asking nothing in return for services and willingly working and cooperating with fellow Defender organizations to promote peace and liberty across the world, even if it means staying out of the spotlight,

Classifying Renegade Islands Alliance as a benevolent Defender organization,

Seeking to commend the efforts of the RIA and RIASF that have often gone unnoticed by the world and this esteemed council,

Hereby Commends Renegade Islands Alliance.

Well-written.

This may sound like nitpicking, but it might hurt the chances of this proposal by siding with the defender.

While I did/do a lot of work with the RIA/RIASF, I wouldn't exactly say that they're my defender organization :p

Regardless, FOR. Why? Because I like them. I also have been pushing WASC authors to look at Shizensky for quite some time now.

You could also dig back into the origins of the RIA as a home for those who had been rejected by 10000 Islands (this tradition continues by the way: The Church of Satan, Humansanity and myself to an extent) and the prominent people who have came from that region good or bad (players such as Gaspo and Falconias). You could also mention their role in the ADN and the various operations they were involved in prior to 2013. There's a lot more that can be added to this. You just need to do the research and I'm sure talking to people such as Ananke and Tierra de Madre will get you a lot closer to a complete resolution.

I do agree that there is more that can be added to this, but I definitely support this.

We're actually going through our region's history right now Nephmir. Send me a TG and we'll help out.

I worked on this with all the information I had; that said I am still actively seeking more information, and will edit it into the proposal as I find it. I also feel that the clause beginning with "admiring" is a little wordy; advice on how to rephrase that clause would be appreciated.

Have you all considered commending regions like GRA ahead of RIA?

Not that I'm against RIA's commendation, there are other regions in NS that defended for much longer. To be fair to the rest, RIA had a hiatus of 7-8 years and weren't that active until late 2013. (see NShistory)

Aside from GRA, TRR, 00000 AWP and RLA have all made long and consistent contributions to the defending cause. Perhaps aspiring authors should look at those too.

I don't see why Renegade Islands Alliance doesn't deserve a Commend simply because other Defender regions might also be deserving. Why the need to prioritize all of a sudden?

On a side note, however, RLA is completely undeserving of any form of reward. Their behavior was absolutely reprehensible and shouldn't be imitated by anyone in NationStates, regardless of side. You belittle your own argument by waving their name around, GRO.

Not to be that guy, but I'd consider many of these regions to be in hiatus. I'd certainly say calling their contributions "consistent" is a stretch as the GRA, AWP and RLA have made minimal if any meaningful contributions since my arrival on the scene in 2012. Slightly off-topic, but would you actually support a commendation of TRR, AD?

I didn't say they are still active. If it's not clear enough: I meant they defended for much longer periods of time than RIA did.

Global Right Alliance, for example, began defending in 2006 and was a founding member of FRA. It goes through periods of ups and downs but if we add up all the time GRA's been defending, I'd say it easily exceeds 5 years.

The Rejected Realms has been defending since before my time and RRA was an active force up to 2007/2008. That's 5 years right there. It went inactive after CG went missing and GeoX took off, but enjoyed a revival after Naivetry took over and continues to be a minor but dedicated defender force since.

00000 A World Power and The Youngworld both took turns to be the leading region of FRA. AWP started in 2007 and was active all the way to 2011. That's 4.5 years. The Youngworld began in early 2004 and was a major player of ADN and founding member of FRA. The region was defending up to 2007. That's 3.5 years right there.

RIA is easier to count because the stats from NShistory are clear. They began defending in 2004 and stopped in 2005. A long hiatus ensued until the region was resurrected in late 2013. Add that all up, it has accumulated about 3.5 years of defending.

Let's put this in perspective:
  • GRA = 5+ years
  • TRR = Hard to quantify since activity has been on and off, if we count all years it'll be 11 years
  • AWP = 4.5 years.
  • TYW = 3.5 years.
  • RIA = 3.5 years

Compare that to the two regions that are currently Commended. Both TITO and Texas have 11 years and counting.

If the SC decides RIA should get a commendation, then in essence, it is saying that defending for 3.5 years is good enough to get commended. I'm not unsupportive, I know people in RIA. But I also had friends in GRA, TRR, AWP, TYW and others, many of them comrades whom defended with me for many years. Hence I'm suggesting since we are seriously discussing commending RIA, let's not forget GRA, TRR, AWP and others when we have the chance. These regions should not be forgotten by history.

Zaolat wrote:Wha!? GRA deserves to be condemned!

In the spirit of fairness. Yes, there were some reprehensible things committed by a couple of defenders who came from the communist circuit. But the actions of one or two does not negate the contributions made by all the others. Red Liberty Alliance, Allied States of Euroislanders, The Proletariat Coalition, and other communist regions produced a lot of good defenders. Blackbird and EuroSoviets don't represent all of them.

When I became a defender in 2006, the communist-aligned defender groups were already on decline. But even then, their strength easily made up 25 to 30% of the entire defending community. Many missions were not possible without help from the communists at a time when ADN had become inactive and FRA were still finding their footing. To taint all of them with a condemnation just because of Blackbird's hacking is unfair to the numerous good defenders in those regions such as Xhadam, Bamada, and Caras Way. I defended a lot with Caras Way and Bam from 2006 to 2008, and they are good people.

I'd be willing to do the research and commend some of the other regions you listed as well after this one, if others choose not to do it before me. But currently I am only interested in regions that still defend.
