If this were America I'd worry that this judge was about to run for district attorney or state congress. Maybe one of the Canadians on the board can tell me, do you get alot of politically motivated judges trying to make the jump to a different government branch?

Never seen it happen in Canada. I've seen politicians get appointed judges, but I don't know of any judges who ran for office.
