I suppose you could scrape up a few thousand from the mopping up of kwantung army after the surrender, and some from the persecution of japanese colonists
but honestly i'm not sure there was even a million japanese people in actually in china come the end of the war, let alone the lot of them being massacred wholesale.

With numbers and large pool of manpower and resources. Japan is dependent on resources, since its lands while have resources, are not many.

The point is more that Gundam is one of the worst possible military weapon platforms that could be devised.

Almost anything.

Space warfare as depicted in anime is almost exclusively not how space warfare will ever be fought.
Gunbuster had some nifty ideas that were on the mark, but it was fundamentally Gundam in space as a concept.
