A Solarian Imperium (OOC, Open)

Postby Ben M » Fri Dec 26, 2014 8:35 pm

Note: This RP is slightly based off of a book called the Quiet War and on the Robots of Dawn series. You do NOT need to have read these books to participate.

The World was dying, yet no one did anything to save it. Climate change devoted the Earth as superstorms, Ocean rise and mass extinction drop humanity to face this one fact. Earth was dying. At first, response was sluggish, but as the global temperature reached unprecedented levels, growing at an exponential rate, many decided space was the answer. The first group of intrepid explorers flew to Mars in an 8 month journey that set the course for human kind.

As the Martian colony grew and prospered many saw space as the answer. At first hundreds flew to Mars, then thousands. Eventually, after 30 years, Mars’s population was equal to 18 million people. Billions of dollars were poured into space exploration, life was discovered in places both expected and unexpected. People flocked now not only to mars but other moons and even asteroids. These colonists became known as the Spacers. Still more came, eager to find their way in the but the emigration did nothing to Earths vast seas of people. Climate got worse. Temperature got worse. Cities erected domes to protect themselves from the adverse conditions. At the precise time the spacers were expanding up, the earthmen were digging down.

The year complications arose was the year 2140, 80 years after the original martian colonization. This was when the Mars challenged its charter, claiming independence from the dirt baggers burrowing into earth. This is when the wars of independence blossomed across the system. The spacers had advanced technology and distance, but Earth and the power of sheer numbers and desperation. They needed the spacers, pure and simple. Earth lashed out and crushed Martian and Venetian resistance. Ultimately they couldn't subdue the spacers will and the Earth soldiers were unaccustomed to the openness of Mars and space. These disadvantages presented themselves in the invasion of the Main Asteroid Belt.

The Asteroid Belt had long been a prosperous region of the solar system for obvious reasons, asteroid mining. Their expertise in maneuvering through the field became apparent. This war was long before current times and such relativistic speeds were still a dream. The Spacers used the clunky earth ships to their advantage, and while the Main Asteroid belt is thinly spread, they threw asteroids at the Earth ships at speeds the Earth men could barely think of. To make matters worse was Earth’s defeat at Ceres, which managed to fight off the bulk of an Earth invasion. The Earthmen needed the spacers alive, and the spacers knew this. They forced the Earth men to land and fought it out in open space or open ground. The earthmen were unaccustomed to the open space they were presented with and dissent ran amongst the ranks. Defeat after defeat followed and the war became more and more unpopular.

The Independence of all heavenly bodies from earth aside from Earths own moon, was established and ratified on January first 2145. This marked a resurgence in the exploration of the Solar System without Earth’s permission or wishes. Earth was embargoed and barred from expansion. While the spacers prospered and flourished earth descended into a dark age. The climate worsened and worsened. The once perfect domes were eroded and decaying. The cities were broken and dirty. That is when the Terra Party took power. The Terrans ran on the ticket of fixing the planet. They poured countless research on environmental engineering. They rediscovered lost genetics and carbon capture theory. Slowly but surely they rebuilt the planet they had lost. Domes disappeared. Animals reappeared from labs. The Oceans changed back from brown to blue. A cultural renascence emerged from the dust and ash and Earth once again became the blue marble in the sky. Earth payed the price though, its freedom. The Terrans established a strict regime based around the protection of earth. As Earth emerged from its dark age it was once again hated and feared by the spacers. As Earth moved on a traditionalist and fundamental path towards the past cultures the Spacers continued to diverge as far as possible from it. The Spacers themselves, played by differences and distance, grow apart and fear each other. As tensions grow Earth looks back out to the systems it once owned.

3 All Civilizations must be inside the Solar System. This Includes the Kuiper belt but excludes the Oort Cloud.
4 The Surface of Venus is un-colonizable. Anywhere near the Orbit of Mercury is as well.
5 Non Earth life forms can be implemented as long as they are of, at most, the biological complexity of (In the Ocean or large body of Water) a large shark or fish, and (On land) A dog. (This does include Genetically created animals, but not altered)
6 Robots can reach AI levels however none are perfect.
7 I have final say and the tie breaking vote in disputes. If I am not needed then the rest of the group decides, excluding admitting Apps.
8 Tech limitations are case by case. In general this rule will be loosely enforced, except on military matters.

Nation Name: The Jovian Triumvirate
Planets/moons/stations controlled: Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto
Map Claims: http://imgur.com/xRSTyqO.jpg
Religion (if applicable): Humanism, Faith in Humanity.
Tech Specialty (If applicable): Robotics and AI.
Population: 3 billion. Easily 6-7 billion robots of all shapes and sizes.
Leader(s) (If Applicable): Giovanni Aleccedi, Francisco Marquelan, and Marco Gredonis
Government system: Oligarchic Council of three (The three leaders or the Big Three) Control all major functions of the nation. They have the power to select oligarchic councils of 6 for each moon under their control. These councils take care of smaller matters. On an even more local scale is a tentative democracy.
Colony type (Domed Cities, terraformed planet, etc): Domed Under Water Cities beneath the surface. On all three there are some aboveground domed Cities as well.

Relations with other Spacer Nations: Relationships with Titania are relatively easy and unstrained. The Jovian Council does not see them as too large of a threat but does resent their carefree attitudes and irrelevance towards religions in general.

Relationships with The Martian Hegemony are very beneficial to both sides. Crude robots are sold at a profit for mining operations and both sides understand the importance of that trade. While Jupiter fears the military build up in Mars they generally regard Mars as a staunch ally and supplied its role in the Solar Systems Independence Wars.
Great Utility Foundation: Suspicious Relations. The authoritarian government is regarded with great suspicion and Distate by Jovians. The lack of knowledge due to limited tourism and trade at their worlds leads to greater suspicion and a keen eye kept on this nation. They also seriously resent the neutral attitude towards Earth.

Kuiper Belt Foundation: Relations with the Kuiper belt foundation are overall good. HOWEVER, Jupiter has a growing distrust for the Kuiper belt foundation as a black market trade in un programmed Robots leads to a Robotic Army build up occasionally in the Belt. As a trading partner, however, the Kuiper belt is well regarded in Jupiter. Their neutrality became an issue at the end of the Terran war and Many on Jupiter thought they shouldn't gain independence as they did no fighting. However, shrewd leaders saw that ALL systems must be free of earth or it would retain a large portion of power.

Neptune: Jupiters relationship with Neptune is complicated to say the least. While pirates did play a crucial part in the Terran wars their neutrality (as in they attacked Earth and Spacer alike) became a serious issue. Jupiter also remembers the atrocity Neptunian Humanism. Using the same name as our religion yet standing for different things. Pirate raids have died down along with Neptunian Humanism, and with it Jovian Hate, however the Supreme isolation begs the question, what are they planning?

Arcadian Empire: Trade with Arcadia is relatively necessary as the massive amount of goods produced keeps Jovian Living Standards high. Their part in the war is highly regarded in Jupiter and many of the belters (as they are called fondly) are held in high light. Christianity is seen as similar to Humanism (Our form, not the archaic neptunian form) and is therefore respected.

The Hydra Central Command: Hydra Command is hated by Jupiter. Their blatant use of Robots in combat is seen as Dangerous, Immoral, and insult to the Art that is Robotism. Relations after that are extremely Shaky and unfounded. Jupiter is HIGHLY suspicious of ALL Hydra movements and decisions and are extremely fearful of a Robot Armageddon. In the words of the Great Robotiscist Janov Pelorat "When we create intelligent Machines of Death we create our doom. We must strive to Create Intelligent bringers of peace, for only in that way my Humans and Humanism prosper." (Robot Code 1:11)

Relation with Earth (Not applicable if Earth): The Triumvirate was the strongest pusher for an embargoed and confined Earth. Terran philosophies about the importance of Earth life ranks Jovian life sub standard. The Jovians are also anti expansionist and seek to confine Earth to Earth. Peace is an uneasy reality however, and trade between the systems is profitable for both sides.
History:
The Jovian colonies were the first to be established after the Martians. It was also the first, but not the last, to discover alien life. This impacted the settlers greatly as life was so prominent on Europa and Ganymede. The people celebrated this life and created domed cities similar to earth. Europa was settled first, followed quickly by Ganymede. These planets were easily colonized due to the abundance of water and heat. Less so Callisto, the frozen rock of the Jovian Triumvirate. This was colonized by settlers from Europa as an effort to join the colonization bandwagon. The colony, while successful, was hard. Their success at Callisto is largely attributed to robots. Robotisicts would send robots to an unexplored and unsettled part of the moon and have them build away while colonists arrived en masse. This system was extremely effective at quick and large scale building. Afterwards robots were adapted to the household, and became a staple tool and instrument in any house on Callisto. This trend spread to Europa and Ganymede, as robots could do things Humans couldn't. They raised the standards of life tremendously and scientists got hard to work improving them, molding their models to make them appear more and more human, and shaping their minds to resemble the Human brain more and more. They were limited however in achieving full intelligence, as Robots had to follow one law, programmed into all of them. They must not Harm humans. Older robots were very easy to "Roblock", or shut down by giving them a situation in which a human is harmed no matter what. As robots got more and more advanced they gained much stronger reasoning ability and Rowlock faded from existence.

While the Jovians joined The Terrran wars early on, they were avoided for the most part. The only easily accessible planet was Callisto, as the others were buried under kms of ice and another few kms of Ocean. Callisto itself was heavily defended. It was taken however, in the middle of the war, a fact it conveniently forgets, and was used as a jump post for Terran ships. It was Retaken quickly by Europa and Ganymede in a daring and adventurous conquest. Callisto had been carrying on numerous sabotage and espionage missions and is still seen as crucial for the war effort by the Jovians, although it is seen as a burden by many other spacers. This same attitude is extended by the Jovians to the residents of Titan, who conveniently overthrew their already loose"Chains" towards the end of the war. In the aftermath of the war a ray of hope was announced. The first humaniform robots were being produced on Callisto. These robots could perform much higher reasoning. The AI unit of their positron brains had human intelligence and reasoning. As they were implemented into Jovian society many Jovians at first mistook them for humans. As the novelty died down the differences became stark to the Jovians, but not so to foreign visitors.

Recently, due to tourism, 3 Lunar-syncronis space stations have been set up around each planet as customs and monitoring posts. The military has been upgraded and over crowding has turned Jovian eyes inward and outwards towards some of the larger and unsettled objects in the solar system. Expansion seems imminent.

Nation Name: The United Federation of Titania
Planets/moons/stations controlled: Titan, Enceladus, Dione
Map Claims: Titan, Enceladus, and Dione. I can't really make my claims in an image.
Religion (if applicable): Religion is free in Titania, though the majority adhere to Eiruism, a loosely organized religion based off worshiping nature.
Tech Specialty (If applicable): Though many worship nature, Titanians have no problem with technology, though they see it as nothing more then a tool. They have a tech they are famous for, however; Titanians are the best in the Solar System at Medical Sciences and they let it be known. When it comes to Doctors, few are as good as Titanians.
Population: 3 Billion.
Leader(s) (If Applicable): In theory, Titania is a democracy with a Ceremonial Prince and a Parliament. In practice, the current King wields massive influence in Parliament through his wealth. The Prime Minister is nothing more then a puppet. The current Prince is Frederick IV, and the Prime Minister is Andrew Walker.
Government system: Absolute Monarchy pretending to be a Constitutional Monarchy.
Colony type (Domed Cities, terraformed planet, etc): In the case of Titan, it is a prosperous Terraformed planet with the most population and industry. The Province-Planets of Dione and Enceladus, however, are grim Dome-City planets. Most of the military is stationed on either Dione or Enceladus.
Relations with other Spacer Nations: Titania enjoys warm relations with most other Spacer Nations, though it has friendly rivalry with the Jovian Triumvate. Titania puts it's utmost into maintaining good relations with all Spacer Nations, lest they become vulnerable for the Terran hordes.
Relation with Earth (Not applicable if Earth): Relations with Earth are very tense, but remain polite. Both sides have their eye on the other, waiting for the other to make a move.
History: Established shortly after colonies on Jupiter, Titan has always been a free-willed place. Surprisingly, during it's time as a Terran colony, it enjoyed a reasonable amount of Autonomy. This Autonomy allowed it to prosper, with riches flowing in, and a divide was quickly established between the aristocratic 'Barons' who made up the rich, famous, or powerful men on Titan, and the poor 'Drones,' who made up everybody else. A council of 'Dukes', the Richest, most Famous, and most Powerful out of all the Barons. That council watched Titan grow and grow, and oversaw several expeditions to Dione. It was one of the last Spacer Nations to rebel against Earth Authority, as it's leaders, fearful that the rebellion might fail, stayed out till then end, thinking that if they took part in a failed rebellion they would lose their Autonomy. Late Titanian entry into the war is still a tense subject with many of them. Once they rebelled, the war quickly turned into a bloody grudge fight on their land. Cities were blown up, leaders assassinated, and Armies decimated. Even Dione, tiny colony world of a colony world, was not safe; it was subject to attacks from Terrans. Scars remain on the surface of both Titan and Dione to this day. Eventually, as with all Spacer Nations, Titan won. They tried establishing a Absolute Kingdom under the richest remaining Duke, King Siegfried; It lasted 2 Terran years. The absolute Monarchy was the subject of in numerous Drone revolts, who called for their representation in Government. These Revolts were fought to a Standstill. The Dukes, realizing they needed Drone aid in order for Titania to survive as an independent entity, agreed on a compromise: The Barons and Dukes would keep their wealth and Fame, and the King would remain in Government, but he would only be a Prince, and only a Head of State. The Drones established a Parliament taking actual control of Government. At least, that's how they wanted it to work. Barons funded favored MPs during elections, therefore turning Parliament into a practical Baronal Puppet. Next, the King and the Dukes bought out the Prime Minister, making him subject to the King. The people of Titania have realized this, and it's only a matter of time before they revolt. In the meantime, Enceladus has been colonized and turned into the main military base. It remains the youngest and least populated colony.

Nation Name: The Terran Authority
Planets/moons/stations controlled: Earth, Luna, International Space Station
Map Claims: Earth and Luna. I'll draw it out when I'm not on my phone.
Religion (if applicable): Varied
Tech Specialty (If applicable): Firepower
Population: 7 billion. The population on Earth is recovering from ecological disaster while the lunar population is stable.
Leader(s) (If Applicable): General James Bittersteel
Government system: Military Junta
Colony type (Domed Cities, terraformed planet, etc): Aerial habitats
Relations with other Spacer Nations: Regardless of any personal histories, the Terran Federation maintains a hostile attitude towards the spacers. Earth still considers all of Sol to be her territory despite the sovereignty of the Spacers.
Relation with Earth (Not applicable if Earth):
History:
Following the rise of the Terra Party, the dying human nation reformed into the Terran Authority, a military state masterminded by General Kirill Ostanov and Lieutenant General James Bittersteel. The two men quickly crushed their planetside opposition before asserting their dominance. From there, Ostanov vowed to prevent Earth's death and while funding scientists and ecologists, poured out a stream of pro-Earth propaganda causing a fervor of support from the people to save Earth. In the background, Ostanov was having Bittersteel operate behind the scenes as the head of the new Terran secret police. Dissenters were sent to lunar labor camps or slaved on upgrades to the International Space Station which would eventually become Ostanov's capital.

As Earth became reborn, the citizens of the moon became uneasy with the radical reforms of the Terran Authority and remembering the successes of the Spacers, rebelled. Ostanov assembled a fleet and prepared for a very bloody war between the close neighbors. Luna had no intention of starting the war and hoped to govern peacefully without Terran intervention, but knew that Ostanov would not allow this. They waited for a Terran attack to retain the moral high ground. The attack came a month later with a massive Terran fleet attacking Lunar Station 002. While the Terrans were occupied, Lunar forces entered Terran space and attacked several orbital shipyards before being driven off. For the next few months, Terran ships pursued battered lunar fleets across the system all the way into the Kuiper belt. The Lunar fleet won varies successes, destroying the Terran flagship, disabling the ISS, and taking control of a large Terran sensor array. However, Terran forces on Luna were winning for more resounding victories, such as taking Armstrong City, crippling Lunar communications, and razing the Lunar capital. One year into the war, Luna developed a new warship, the Apollo Class, which was more advanced than any Terran ship. A task force flagshipped by the Apollo decimated an invading Terran fleet and launches a daring raid on Earth. They were fought off, but did crippling damage to the Terran orbital network and fleet. It soon became apparent that the Terran Authority needed to develop a counter to the Apollo Class and built the Odyssey Class as a result to level the playing ground. While the Apollo was heavily shielded but highly maneuverable, the Odyssey was heavily armed but cumbersome. In the final clash of the Lunar War, a Terran fleet numbering over a thousand ships invaded Lunar space against only two hundred vessels. Luna surrendered at the Treaty of San Fransisco. Ostanov breathed a sigh of relief that the Terran Authority had survived. The moon's infrastructure had been crippled in the war and Ostanov was forced to aid in the reparations. He took care to avoid the reconstruction of shipyards over the moon. In contrast to Luna's treachery, the war had seen goodwill and support pouring out of the Terran population and Earth left the war more powerful than it had been in years. With both Apollo and Odyssey Class ships filling the Terran Navy, Ostanov had never been more powerful.

Bittersteel however, had been relegated to commanding a ship in deep space exploring distant Kuiper Belt Objects and chasing comets passing through the system. In this time, he detected an ancient signal from a long dead alien race. As his ship scanned the signal, Bittersteel fainted and dreamed of a dark figure on a throne, having enslaved the human race. Upon awaking, he rushed back to Earth to warn Ostanov of wha he had seen. Ostanov disregarded his former lieutenant as insane. Two days later, Ostanov and Bittersteel were taking a transporter to London when Bittersteel was called away for a meeting with his crew. Ostanov took the transporter alone and died in a tragic accident caused by computer errors in the transporter. Bittersteel assumed leadership of the Terran Authority and promoted himself to a full five star general. He got to work strengthening Terran orbital defense platforms and recalled all deep space vessels to defend Earth from the alien assault he feared. The assault never came but he worked slavishly to prevent the throned figure from coming. Passing stricter laws and gradually becoming more oppressive, Bittersteel turned the Authority from a quasi military state into his own personal dictatorship. It never dawned on him that the dark figure on the throne was himself. The prophecy had ironically become true.

Apologies for low quality, did this on my phone.

Lol thats great. As it says in the op, you don't need to have read the books. On another note I agree with New Jordslag, Pavlostanni, your bio is approved.

Map Claims: http://imgur.com/xRSTyqO.jpg
Religion (if applicable): Humanism, Faith in Humanity.
Tech Specialty (If applicable): Robotics and AI.
Population: 2 billion.

I sense some angry conversations in the future between out leaders. ;)

Yeah I want about 5 (hopefully more). At 5 I shall start the IC the day after or so. We need still need a Mars, a Main Asteroid belter (like a Ceres or Vesta), and maybe a neptune or Kuiper belt objected. And yeah, Our leaders do look they are gonna chide each other a lot. :  I plan on establishing some space colonies out in other Systems, like the asteroid belt or maybe Saturn :o. Also plan on confronting Earth on some militaristic stuff I am sure they will do. That kind of thing. You?

If you set one boot down on Saturn, I shall utterly obliterate you. Saturn is MY territory.

Outward expansion elsewhere is totally fine, though.

Should it be necessary, I am willing to make a second app to get the IC going. Because we can't start it without Mars.

Also, pretty sure your Pluto link is broken.

My IC plans: I shall establish Military Watchposts on the other Moons of Saturn, then expand to the Asteroid Belt. After that, I plan on expanding to Oberon, a Moon of Uranus with Water. If somebody tries to stop me there, so be it.

First off, excellent thats 2 tags. Second off Lol I'm glad we can talk so easily about expansion and sharing of the Solar system and related moons. Im glad you are expanding to similar places, will lead to good conflict and rping in the future.

Nation Name: The Martian Hegemony
Planets/moons/stations controlled: Mars, Mercury, and Venus with Phobos and Deimos restructured as the main shipyards of growing might of the Martian Hegemony. Venus' orbit is marked with several stations to handle the strain of mining operations on Mercury. The Dual Moons Shipyards require an immense source of materiel and what better resources than the Sun-baked planet of Mercury?
Map Claims: Whatever you see as best.
Religion (if applicable): No religion is deemed as the official religion although the reformations of the New Catholic Church have proven to be dominant.
Tech Specialty (If applicable): Ships. Ships. And More ships. The Hegemony is devoted to the exploration of space and has accordingly invested heavily in the production of ships, be they space haulers or a new cruiser the Red Navy is lusting after.
Population: Approaching four and half billion.
Leader(s) (If Applicable): Lord Commander Lukas Chrom and the Hegemonic Council
Government system: A quasi-republic with the leaders in the Hegemonic Council voted for by the Citizens of the Hegemony. The only way to become a Citizen in the Hegemon is to have served in a scientific or military capability. A Citizen is afforded the right to vote, a Civilian not so.
Colony type: Most of Mars has been terraformed following the end of the Wars of Independence with life spread out in massive stations in the orbits of Venus and on the Dual Moons of Phobos and Deimos.
Relations with other Spacer Nations: A close, cordial relationship exists between the Jovian Triumvirate and the Hegemony with the profits garned from the sale and distribution of robotics to the Hegemon and ships to the Triumverate. The robots, designed primarily for mining operations, are used mostly on Mercury. A chillier, more distant relationship exists with the Titanians, mostly due to the last entry of the Titanians in the war.
Relation with Earth (Not applicable if Earth): Hostility. The Red Navy exists primarily to repel any would be invasion of it's space.
History: The Wars of Independence ended and Mars was left with nothing to do but go outward. The Martian Hegemony was formed by the rebels that had survived the Wars and those who had profited from the self-same war. The rebels became the beginning of the Red Navy and Hegemonic Army lead by the brilliant but reckless Lord Commander Edmond Chrom. The profiteers united mostly behind the anonymity of the Dual Moons Shipyards and the head of the Olympian Academy, the research and development department for the entire Hegemony. Since it's beginning, the Hegemony has been interested in three things; profit, exploration, and freedom. Profit became easy with Earth embargoed by the spacers and it's massive shipyards catering to every spacer with a deep enough credit book. Exploration went hand in hand with profit as far as the Hegemon is concerned. And freedom, usually in the form to make profits and explore to their hearts content. Edmond Chrom also became close to Director Lorenzo Tyr of the Olympian Academy, who formed sort of an advisory role for the first Lord Commander. The ten year reign of Edmond ended with hardly a fuss, Edmond retiring to join his friend and in study at the Olympian Academy. The reign of Lukas begun with barely a whimper, stepping into the shoes of his father and creating the smooth transition of power that was sorely needed with the rise of the Terran Authority.

With the rise of the Authority, Lukas has had to change his views on what the future holds in store for the solar system and the Hegemony. Beginning with a near two hundred percent rise in funding for the Red Navy and speed up of resource acquisition on Mercury, Lukas Chrom prepares his fledgling Empire for confrontation.

First off, Skaldia, Your bio is good but try to bring your history up a bit in detail. One of the rules said no Mercury but I like what you did with it so its fine. Overall just buff your history a bit and you are golden.

Secondly,to New Jordslag, thanks for the Heads up I fixed the Pluto system map.

Not any personal or ideological reasons. Mostly because Titania doesn't really offer anything as of yet that interests the Hegemon but I'll be having that change in the future.
