Economic growth isn't solely determined by GDP growth. The GDP grew under Reagan, but wages stagnated, inequality skyrocketed, the number of Americans in poverty grew, and all of this spiraled us into a vicious cycle of debt. GDP growth is good, but it needs to be coupled with growing wages, general equality, and decreasing poverty, otherwise it's unsustainable.

And no, taxes shouldn't ALWAYS be raised. Only when it makes sense to.
All due respect, but why should 'We the people' be compelled to pay more taxes to cover the irresponsible spending practices of the government?
These politicians use $944,672 per year each, just for their secretaries (up to 18 of them), they get a raise each year based on inflation, they pay $0 in operating costs.
Meanwhile, approximately 1/3 of the US population is either homeless, living at or below poverty, underemployed or unemployed, and living in a neighborhood that resembles a war zone.
This country is bankrupt and owes upwards of $17,770,878,224,354 (17.7 Trillion Dollars) with a GDP of 16.8 Trillion Dollars.
All of this has been happening on their watch, and their actions appear to be a pathetic excuse; so the choice is what exactly?
Elect a bag of poop as opposed to a bag of poop?

Raise taxes so the government pays for everything (almost) and raise it even higher for the rich

Growing wages have only short term effects; they provide the lower class with increased purchasing power at the expense of increased prices and unemployment in the long run. Likewise, lowering the minimum wage may have temporarily negative effects, but the economy would balance itself out as the price of goods and services drop to encourage consumption.
