Does God Exist?

Postby Creepoc Infinite » Mon Sep 29, 2014 9:34 am

I am an Atheist who is strongly against religion.
And I have been studying religion. The reason I'm atheist is because that I was once Christian,l but I never went to church or read the bible. It was a really casual thing.
One day, something traumatic happened to me and I started to go to church and so on in order to reconnect with god.
However, the more I learned about the religions roots and the more I read the bible, the more disenfranchised by Christianity I was.

I was really miserable for a long time, until I found about that atheism existed, when I did, it offered me an opportunity to see the world as I had originally seen it. Because I'm an atheist, I have become more open to new information and have learned a lot about science and philosophy and history.

I have realized that religion is one of the worst problems, if not THE worst, facing modern society.
And so I want to know what everyone's thoughts are on the issue.

I am also interested in being convinced of god's existence if he does, I doubt it, but, more recently, I'm more open to the idea. So if you want to convince me, contact me personally or on this thread

I doubt the existence of an involved, caring G-od; the more I consider it, the less likely it seems.

I believe in an indifferent creator/prime mover, or g-od, whatever.

Life can be too cruel for there to be a caring God.

Even if there is a deist god, what's the point in believing in one?

Religion isn't inherently bad. It really comes down to who controls the religion. Priests and politicians have been using religion to promote their own agendas since forever but this doesn't mean that the concept of religion is inherently harmful to humanity. Science isn't exclusive from religion, especially if said religion is Christianity, as the Bible doesn't seem to be in favor or against science.

Personally, I believe that the all-powerful, singular Abrahamic God doesn't exist but I am not against any religion either.

I just meant it to be uncapitalized.

I don't respect or believe in a divine G-od, just a powerful godlike being.

Yeah, slight difference.

Religion is inherently harmful.
It allows people to think they have all the answers when they genuinely don't.
This means everyone is worshipping something that does not exist, a void.
That void, since there's no god to fill it, gets filled in with people with their own follies, agendas, flaws, and greed.

Nonsense humanity makes the concept harmful nothing more.

It may ALLOW them, but it doesn't FORCE them. People can still choose. So, not inherently harmful.

If anything, mostly meh.

Op, we just had a thread on this pertaining to the Christian God. (#289357235 on this subject in NSG history.)

Will recommend a merge if someone hasn't done so already.

I want a fresh thread, it hard to join in a discussion that's been going for 200 pages or so.

That's not how it works I'm afraid, if it was, we'd have countless threads on the same subject matter every few days.
