The Oldest Nation?

Postby The Ambrose Islands » Wed Dec 16, 2009 9:44 pm

I'm just wondering, what is the oldest nation that is still active?

Are you talking about the Nationstates game? A lot, probably the majority, of NSG don't actually play the game.

Just on Nationstates period. There's a few nations with a population over 14 Billion, but I don't know which has been around the longest.

I was here in the before times. My memory is not that good.

Currently, I have 14.402 billion.

A lot of the older mods might have the oldest nations, they have been around for ages. Those old geezers :P

Not counting deleted nations, Praetor is the largest nation, with a population of nearly 16 billion.

I don't think population count is an absolute pointer. I believe it depends on how often you login. For example; I have taken a break from the game a few times.....

I originally joined in Jan '03. My nation has faded from inactivity a couple times. I think Melkor and Siri joined in December '02. Praetor is also from '02, I believe, although was a member of one of the select nations with an early population growth bug. Hence the extra couple billion people.

I'm not sure if any of the original late 2002 nations are still active. I know I'm among the oldies, having had this nation constantly active (never deleted from inactivity) since March 2003. And I'm pretty sure Melkor is from January 2003 without any timeouts.

To be honest, I haven't seen an '02 in a very long time. The last time I can clearly remember one was probably 6 months to a year after I joined NS.

Further, I confess to having let my nation lapse into death for a while, but it was only once! I swear it'll never happen again!

True, but I took a year or two hiatus in which I did some serious lurking, so it's doubtful he remembers me. Still, it's nice to see some of the older players I have fond forum/IRC memories of active in some fashion.

I actually had my nation lapse into death due to inactivity while being active on the forums. ;) Two or three times, IIRC.

For me, if I'm not active on the forums, I'm not active with my nation and vice versa. So I'd occassionally read some threads on the forum, but never responded. I was the creepy presence that everyone felt but were assured was nothing .;)

Sorry I had to slip into something a little older... Am I sensing a crush? :p I never had really posted along side with Ctan to begin with. I contacted him a while ago (maybe 2008), under a different screen name, to ask a question. He responded and apologized couldn't be much of help... The point is, it never hurts to contact someone; at least on NS.

It's probably a sign of my own advanced NS age, but I remember Josifovich being the oldest one here, way back when.
His passing was a great pity...

Very true. I actually got bored, did a google search of my various net names, and lo and behold, Czardas was talking about me that day on NSG. I took it as a sign to return and pester the poor man (and everyone else) all over again. I've always had great experiences with talking to NSers I used to know, honestly. That's something I've always loved about NS--no matter which section of the site you frequent, you're bound to gather some little circle of people you like, respect and come to befriend. I've met a number of my close friends from NS.

Also, you cad with your fancy date :p I actually spent months deciding on whether I wanted to (and had the time) to get involved in such an involved community. If only I had known how important my join date would be 5 years later! *weeps*

Creation date for this nation: 29 December 2002. I have a 13 days older nation (Zyrox), but it was CTE for a while. I had an even older nation, that i let CTE before i created Zyrox. I know there were even older nations, but i don't know if any of them are still active.

If they were ever active on the jolt forum, you can find their creation date there.
