The NS Infantry Discussion Thread MkII*

Postby Aqizithiuda » Sat Mar 08, 2014 2:07 pm

Welcome to the Infantry in your Nation thread! A continuation of the Main Military Weapons thread series.

Image

Unlike the previous series, this thread Is for the discussion of of your nations military's small arms, body armor, uniform, communications gear, and other general equipment. All tech levels are welcome, but please understand that this thread tends to be geared towards modern and post modern tech, so designs operating on unobtainium or other FT wankery are bound to be criticized from a realistic perspective. If having your designs evaluated for a realistic perspective does not appeal to you, it is advisable you do not post here. There is nothing wrong with past-tech, fantasy tech, or any other non-modern technology based nation posting a design, and you are welcome to post here, but be prepared for the inevitable "That won't work because..." post. These are not meant to offend you, they are meant to teach you. If you do not requirement enlightenment, simply leave it alone.

If you do post a design here, you agree that it will be criticized by the denizens of this thread. You are under no obligation to change the design based on this criticism, but continuing to argue in the face of facts will not bode well for you. Further, if you do not know, ask. If someone asks and you do not know the answer, don't respond. Speak on subjects you know, don't attempt to bullshit. Finally, there are plenty of people in this thread, both new and old, who have knowledge regarding a vast array of military technologies, try to learn from them Dispute if you will, but be prepared to use facts to back up your claims.

"Because it's magic" "I'm FT lawl" and "because I say so" are not valid arguments. Posters, if a player makes aid argument, drop it. These and other non-answers demonstrate that the poster has no desire to learn, therefore, you can not teach.

please avoid excessive posting of vehicles, regardless of their affect on infantry deployment, this is n infantry thread first and foremost, we have vehicle and aircraft threads for those.
The below is a sort of re-hask, tl;dr of the above.

House rules (would you kindly read these)

~ Originally by Risen Britannia, modified by Transnapastain and again by Aqizithiuda.

1: Read the OP. As you can probably guess from the title this thread has been round a while, the OP contains all allot some of the knowledge gained from previous iterations.

2: By posting you are accepting that they WILL be criticized, however it is up to you whether you listen (though you aren't going to make friends if you don't).

3: If you do offer criticism, make sure it's constructive, and don't assume that the person you're criticising knows what's wrong. "That won't work", "That's completely wrong" "What the hell is that abomination" and similar comments aren't helpful or constructive. Tell people why whatever is being designed won't work, especially if they ask you to explain. Saying "lul, an idiot can see why that won't work" or "because *insert obscure hint that only helps if the person you're talking to has the exact same set of knowledge as you do" and similar things will only lead to flame wars, trolling and people getting banned. Don't be a dick.

4: Be civil, site rules still apply. Due to past incidents we have Mods (Transnapastain) who is a regular here.

5: Whilst not encouraged off topic posts are allowed to an extent, EG you wont get a warning if you post a jet or tank etc... Just remember this thread is for infantry equipment, including but not limited to small arms, armor and uniforms.

6: While the F&NI sub forum is in-character, most posts in technology discussions threads are OOC in nature. IC statements can be made but are not the norm and may not be read as in character.

7: Excepting page topping "gun porn", large images will be placed in spoilers. "Large" will be determined by moderation. If you are asked to place images in spoilers, please do so.

8: Be extra nice to Transnapastain

9: No feeding the trolls

10: Respect is earned, and your post probably isn't as funny as you think it is.

GOLDEN RULE
Do not talk about politics, I don''t care if you were just replying to someone, don't do it!

DO NOT DISCUSS POLITICS!
Any form of gun control discussion is not allowed here, take that to general.

Infantry Battle Rifle Model of 1965

Cartridge: 7.65x50mm

Action: Gas-operated, tilting breechblock

Rate of Fire: 600 rounds per minute

Effective Range: 500m

Maximum Range: 1000m

Feed System: 20-round double-stacked removable box magazine

Made to meet requests of the Fordorsian military, the IBR-65 is an updated version of the IBR-57 ordered and issued in 1965. Featuring a folding stock, the IBR-65 allowed for greater compactness without reducing controllability or general function. All infantry IBR-57s were replaced within six months of the adoption of the IBR-65, and tank crews were now able to keep a single IBR-65 carbine within their vehicles along with their service pistols.

Indeed.

Would there be any sort of advantage of using a DBP10-style bullet over other designs? From what I gathered it was still pretty bad, but improved over the DBP87. I remember you talking about it in one of the MMW threads but can't find the post for the life of me.

So now that the IBR-65 is done, what would be another upgrade I could do around, let's say 1982. Keep in mind I'll be doing a DMR variant for this next one, replacing the 7.65x50mm NotSMLEs that were previously used for the role.

Basically, it's much like the 7N6 (here's what it does to ballistic soap, but has a high SG, so the bullet can be shorter for a given length, which can provide a better BC with less intrusion into the case and with less of a twist rate. At the same time, it still has good armour and barrier penetration, and good terminal performance as well.

Modified my automatic rifle slightly, because I remembered Spree mentioning that the cheekweld wouldn't be very good due to the height between the stock and the sights, I think. So I tried to fix that. Did it work?

Mag release will be added in next update.

Rifle, Automatic, 7.62x54mmR, Outlander Model 1933: The Outlander Automatic Rifle, or OAR, is an interwar support weapon that saw service up through World War II. It features a rib along the top of the barrel in order to help reduce heat haze from obscuring the front sight, and to facilitate cooling. It is capable of accepting a 10-round or 20-round detachable box magazine. The OAR is the most common automatic rifle in service with the Sevvanian military.
