Welcome to Pasturis

Greetings, foreigner, and welcome to the Burning Forests, Flooded Hillsides, Full Arsenals and Strong-Willed People of the Armed Republic of Pasturis. We are a country of socially progressive policies, magnificently forested hills and mountains, huge conglomerations of cities, fierce people with the refusal to give up and a developing economy. We are still currently under the control of a progressive, but oppressive, dictator named Peter Yosh, but on this very day (14 December, 2009) he called an election, in which he will not be running. So, on New Year 2010, Pasturis will have a new, democratically elected President, a new, more powerful parliament and possibly a different set of policies and diplomatic stances.

So far, we haven't really made any allies, or diplomatic agreements, but we are working our way into getting official status as a member of the Atlantian Oceania region, where we hope to become an important, active member. We are happy to contact any government upon diplomatic matters at any time, and, in our capital city of Lyllian, we are constructing a new embassy district for any countries who wish to set up embassies to our country.

If you would like more information on our country, check out the Official Pasturis Wiki Page, or contact us, either by setting up an embassy, or a Telegram to our government headquarters.

Pasturis World Factbook

Overview
The Armed Republic of Pasturis is a small, densely populated and highly forested country crammed between two mountain ranges. The people are known for their fierceness and persistence, and often revert to slightly primitive and savage ways. The people are governed by a slightly notorious dictator fronted by a diverse parliament that has almost no say in the governing of the country. Still, despite this, the people have many civil liberties and the the country has started taking steps towards democracy. The country's remaining forests are well-populated by various creatures, including the national animal, the Serigar Eagle. In order to protect this species, the government is slowly attempting to introduce protection schemes.

News

14 December, 2009
The President and often-proclaimed Dictator of Pasturis, Peter Yosh, today called an election for 'a new President of Pasturis' and a complete sweep-out of the weak, powerless parliament. This follows his recent calls for a democratically-elected leader in office by New Year.
"I know that I've been a dictator," President Yosh said today, addressing the people of Lyllian. "And that's not how I wanted it to be. But that August (2005), I thought the country was in too good shape to be ruined by some hippie, and I wanted to keep things the way they were. But I'm sad to say my bad leadership, and the absence of a powerful parliament, completely ruined the state of the country.
"I've been a bad man. The country could have stayed up there, with a powerful economy, a great state of welfare, a fantastic educational program, and political freedoms. But I ruined it. I ruined our magnificent country, our political freedoms, even our international affairs. I absolutely ruined our constitution, and I believe that disaster should be rewritten."
But after this self-criticism, Yosh went on to praise some ventures of his regime.
"But you can't say we've been completely unsuccessful," the President said. "The crime rate of Pasturis has dropped so much that, according to the World Assembly, crime is non-existent. Contrary to what I said earlier about education, the WA says we also have a great education system. This all came to be during my rule.
"But, overall, I still think my period of rule has been largely unsuccessful."
