Internet censorship in your country

Postby Namor » Sun Feb 16, 2014 4:38 pm

Is there internet censorship in your country? If so, how far does it carry out?

Internet censorship is one of the most controversial issues in Namor. The Namorese government currently blocks websites that contain pornography, operated by designated terrorist organizations, or anything that threatens national security. Opponents are saying that this is a breach of freedom to information, while supporters say minimum control over the internet preserve Namor's security from terrorist groups.

Is there internet censorship in your country? Of course. How else to we prevent the people from accessing the the truth and questioning the actions of the State and eventual rebellion against the ruling regime protect the safety and integrity of our people from foreign filth and anti-national propaganda and though from polluting their minds?

If so, how far does it carry out? The internet is completely state controlled in Everia. Websites that contain any anti-government content or do not exhibit any praise for the government are blocked. These include, but are not limited to, pro-democratic, anarchist, communist, socialist, over-the-top consumerism, or anti-state material. News and information websites are restricted to only State-owned material. All foreign websites, media, and other such things have also been blocked. Pornographic material is subject to harsh cultural standards and censorship, but is not outright banned. The government has even created its own social media websites and operating system and browser to better monitor and control the flow of information.

tl;dr all must hail the state or be censored and punished.

There is some internet censorship in Las Islas.

Certain Radically Rightist sites like Stormfront for instance are blocked, as are some Radically Leftist ones. Sites that are thought to encourage violence, rape or sexual deviance are banned also. It's estimated that up to 67% of all pornographic sites are blocked.

And of course, terrorist sites are also blocked.

The message that appears when you try to access these sites (translated into English is):
"The website you are trying to access has been deemed by the Supreme Council, Politburo and Government to be unsafe for accessing by residents of the Republic of Las Islas Paradisíacas. We strongly advise that you stop attempting to access this site as this could arouse suspicion and attention from the authorities and your browsing history could be used against you if necessary. Contact the Department of Information if you have any enquiries or information."

The internet is monitored for the distribution of illegal material such as child pornography and human trafficking. Totally free otherwise, especially if you're pirating music and movies!

Websites which are illegal in the real world are blocked, these include: certain types of pornography (child pornography, bestiality, snuff, etc), piracy, extremely offensive websites, and drug/illegal items trade. All other websites with adult content are required to post an 18+ content warning before entry. For threat of blockage.

No opinion websites (no matter how unpopular, such as Neo-Nazi websites) are blocked in Hyfling.

Government mandated censorship is banned, but optional government censorship isn't. Such a shame all the ISPs in the country follow the optional guidelines.

Sites that are blocked:

1. Inciting to overthrow the government (sites that protest the government are fine)
2. Inciting to cause genocide (sites that protest a group or criticize a group are fine)
3. Inciting criminal activity
4. Sites that promote the false truth (sites with satires or comedic sites are fine. This law goes for mainly media outlets)

Most everything else is allowed under Amendment 7 Section 2.7: "...the Union Council nor Citizens' Assembly shall pass a law blocking the population from the online world unless... the domain goes against Amendment 2 or freedom of expression and governmental request usage."
