Story so far
The blackout destroyed the power 15 years ago, leaving batteries, spark plugs, power centres, all useless. No one knows what was the cause of the blackout was, and it has become a way of life. Governments rose up across the land, from military despotisms to Republics with free elections, each hoarding their pre blackout weapons as to defend themselves against the others. Technology came to a standstill, but humans survived, and rose from the ashes, as they struggle to restore the lights to their home nations.
This RP
This RP is set in the revolution universe, where there is no power other than small lockets spread across the land, but more on those later. You play as both your nation and the people in it, your leaders aren't just there for names in this RP, they are expected to have been able to form this nation (Or take control of it) and as such they are likely pretty interesting. You will also played preferred generals/soldiers/scientists/citizens from your nation.
In the first few pages of the RP your leaders will learn of the lockets, though they will be unable to acquire them until they send out explorers. From there you can build generators, which can power vehicles, and eventually you can try for the tower.
Rules
-Basic, no godmoding etc.
-You can have racist/sexist nations, and I am fine with having the Alabama Confederacy gassing the African American population, but you must have reasons, and stick to that theme
-Slavery is fine, of all kinds
-Steam technology is the only way to get vehicles
-Keep things realistic, you won't have airships, land battleships, or anything like that powered by steam (You can have tried to make them, or produce them in anticipation of power returning
-You can retrofit US ships for steam, but most of their systems will be offline, and it will be very dark
-You can only make nations in North America/Caribbean though later, we can start to make colonies (Assuming you are rich enough)
-No cannon countries
-I am the Op, you may appeal my decisions with a logical argument, but in the end I have final say
