War on Christmas

Postby Wilgrove » Fri Nov 27, 2009 2:47 pm

Will we see a War on Christmas this year? We actually didn't see one last year, at least I didn't. I guess the economic turmoil got people more concern with their jobs, house, and money than whenever or not someone is saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. However, with the Republican Party going further right (and into obscurity), will they raise a stink about this?

I'm surprise they aren't already bitching about The GAP new ad, which basically mentions all the winter holiday (including Solstice), but the Holiday Season has just begun, so we will see.

Of course I'll be the heathen that'll be wishing everyone a Happy Holiday!

Christmas is almost more part of our culture than a religious holiday, I'm an Atheist but still celebrate it.

oh and Happy Holidays :)

I sure as hell hope so, I didn't buy that lawn chair, winter parka, rifle, and popcorn making machine for nothing.

Got a Christmas card from the Royal Mail (basically them begging for my custom after they hanged themselves with the strikes) which had "Merry Christmas" on it, which surprised me.

I'd have thought they would have tried to be all PC on it and avoided that sort of thing, but apparently not.

I hope there is a war on Christmas. It is always enjoyable to watch the Christian majority play victim.

I know right? Christians have been at war with since I can remember. You have Christmas trees, blinky lights, and funny songs about jingle bells and snowmen. People happily spend about 1/4 of the income they make in a year on crap for the whole family living up perfectly to the rampant consumerist holiday that Christmas has been designed to be for the last 100 years. A merry happy time with shining lights and festive songs only to be ruined by these assholes that want everyone to remember Jesus instead. Christmas hasn't been about Jesus in over 100 years! Stop shoving your religion down our throats. If you didn't try and make Christmas about your damn religion everyone would love it.

The War On Christmas only exists in the mind of people who get angry about it. Businesses trying to appeal to non-Christian customers is not a war on your precious* celebration of the birth of Christ.

I will go to war with Christmas! For too long have we suffered its sticky, minty, red-striped tyranny! Death to Santa Claus! Who's with me?

If there's a war on Christmas this year, I hope the front line combatants use live ammunition this time.

See, I don't get why everyone makes a fuss about putting a nativity scene up at town hall. This nation was founded on Christian beliefs and should stay that way. Go ahead and put up the Star of David if you'd like too. No one gets offended by a nativity scene, or at least they shouldn't. If I go to India, I'm not going to cry out in rage when I see Hinduism everywhere.

That was to prevent making a church of America. They didn't want something like the Catholic Church in Europe be established in America. It only leads to non-religious folks joining for power.

Now that is grasping at straws.

I'd be very surprised if they truly envisioned and feared a Catholic Church coming about otherwise.

Just an example. How about a protestant version of it. The point is that its a religiously tolerant country.

Where there would be no mixing of church and state.
