NPO-TEP TREATY PROPOSED!
August 30, 2013.

CAPITAL DISTRICT, THE EAST PACIFIC -- With authorization from Emperor Krulltopia, The New Pacific Order sent a diplomat to The East Pacific yesterday to discuss the ratification of a new treaty between The New Pacific Order and The East Pacific.

Support for the treaty has thus far been quite positive in The East Pacific.

The treaty itself, called “The Treaty of August” appears to be a standard Security / Intelligence / Military / Culture treaty that we’ve seen so much of lately (despite a joke about IQ hidden in the treaty’s text), although one interesting clause of note suggests “the signatories agree to pursue military growth that is not dependent on userite influences and assistance”, which may affect EPSA’s relations in the future with other organizations and regions outside of Game-Created Regions.

We will keep you posted on any interesting developments on this story.

Is AMOM still working on a revival of the Modern Pacific Alliance, or is he going to prefer bilateral treaties founded on the same principles?

THE PEOPLES ALLIED PROLETARIAT LIBERATED! THE RIGHT TO LIFE ARMY DEFEATED
August 31, 2013.

UDL HQ, SHERWOOD FOREST -- A small band of merrymen and fellow defenders and colleagues are celebrating their liberation of The Peoples Allied Proletariat tonight against The Right to Life Army. The United Defenders League led the mission to free the region.

The Peoples Allied Proletariat is a liberal region which declares in its World Factbook Entry that it is open to all "Marxist, Maoist, Leninist, Titoist, Hoxhaist, Stalinist, Juche, Anarcho-communist, Ba'athist, generally communist, or socialist" nations. The Right to Life Army in the World Factbook Entry, however, insinuated that these regimes were prime real estate for "fetal death camps" and included a list of semi-irrelevant quotations about life.

This appears to be a different direction for The Right to Life by attacking a region with leftist allegiances: but does it extend beyond their mandate as purveyors of the pro-life movement in NationStates? Your thoughts?

No, its nothing new. They took NATO Resistance Movement a while back, which was essentially a colony of The Communist Region. Maybe the NSNE could do some more extensive fact-checking before they write their articles.

Given that certain GCRs are both wholly opposed the idea of a multilateral alliance and think AMOM's Modern Pacific-Sinker Alliance is simply an anti-TNI treaty, I would expect this is the case.

But it wouldn't be express then.

I just hope this won't be another news service that shuts down after a week. Nothing as really matched Quin's NS Weekly.

THE BLACK RIDERS END COFFEE BREAK BY INVADING COFFEE HOUSE, SOURCES SAY
August 31, 2013.

WRITER'S LOUNGE, COFFEE HOUSE -- The Black Riders invaded "Coffee House", 35 minutes ago. The invasion happened behind the safety of a regional password, thus defenders could not respond and instead, had to watch in frustration. At the present moment, invaders have placed their flag over the region, closed the region's embassies, tagged the region as "invader" and suppressed native posts on the Regional Message Board. This marks a recent departure from inactivity as of late, for invaders.

"We really just ran out of coffee," casually explains one invader to me over a warm cup of java, his face shrouded in a black hood. This anachronistic horseman is one of many of the crowd of drunken patrons, pirates and pub-goers who have turned this sophisticated coffee house into more or less a medieval tavern; smells of arabian and colombian beans make their way through the porous walls as invaders chat loudly and roughhouse natives for their amusement.

It appears as though The Black Riders intend to occupy Coffee House -- piling, a controversial tactic, is trickling into the region to provide relief to the invader delegate. Another interesting development is that this invasion marks one of the first (if not the first?) times that invaders have used the "welcome message" feature for invader purposes.

NS NEWS EXPRESS approached Mahaj, Chief of the Band of the UDL, to ask him his thoughts on the invasion. "Well, its tragic obviously," says Mahaj, "nobody likes to see a region being raided. Our hope is that the region will be swiftly liberated by the defender forces, and we'll do everything in our power to make sure that it happens".

When asked whether the use of piling in Coffee House could have an effect on the discussions on piling at the ongoing R/D Conference, Mahaj replied, "I think that if the community objectively pays attention, they'll be able to see from this example the problems piling presents. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if the raiders intentionally manipulated the pile so that the issue of piling and the imbalance it presents appears like less of a problem".

Many hope that this invasion is resolved shortly, locals here fear that the embargo on coffee exports could affect NS Moderation's mood and general patience.

GAMEPLAY SUMMIT ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NEW GAMEPLAY CHANGES!
August 31, 2013.

PRESS CENTRE, GAMEPLAY SUMMIT -- NS Moderation has released a list of gameplay changes to be implemented in the coming weeks, months, years or millenniums. These changes have been derived from the discussions that took place during the Gameplay "R/D" Summit.

The list of changes include:
  1. Influence in feeders and sinkers
  2. Delegate Elect
  3. Regional Officers
  4. Annex
  5. Reformation SC proposal
  6. Custodian SC proposal
  7. Estimated Update Times Displayed

So far controversy has been swirling mostly around the removal of the old Update-Time system; both Defenders and Invaders suggest this gameplay change could affect the ability of defenders and invaders to develop more precise update times and some have suggested, could lead Military Gameplay towards becoming more of a game of luck where experience and specialization isn't rewarded enough. There have been calls to implement an "Estimated Update Time" feature without affecting the current Update-Time system for other players so that everyone can benefit from the gameplay change.

This debate, especially, could become another watershed moment like the WA Condemnation debate where fierce criticism forced adminship to adjust their plans. We will have to wait and see!

Until then, what's the best and worst changes being implemented in your mind? Also, NSNE has arranged a poll to evaluate the Gameplay Summit.

Criticism doesn't force anything. Good arguments however do make a huge difference.

Hey nothing wrong with an anti-TNI treaty.

Except that it wasn't an anti-TNI treaty. AMOM and I share the same feelings about external influences in GCRs. The treaty would have applied equally to TNI and the UDL. If it was shopped around back when the UDL was under fire for GCR influence, it probably would have been more successful. But extant relations in various GCRs with TNI/UIAF sealed the fate of the treaty.

BANNING ADSPAMMERS IS A CRIME AGAINST FREE SPEECH, SAYS TEP PLAINTIFF
August 31, 2013.

CAPITAL DISTRICT, THE EAST PACIFIC- A Slanted Black Stripe has launched a formal complaint in the Great Conclave of The East Pacific, arguing that the new rules against Adspammers violate the right to Freedom of Speech granted to all citizens of The East. A Slanted Black Stripe is a respected member of The East Pacific – having received a commendation from The World Assembly for his role in defending The East Pacific during the occupation by The Empire.

The new rules against adspammers marks a drastic departure from the old rules. In The East Pacific, there used to be a set of rules that adspammers had to comply, nowadays however, adspammers are illegal and face ejection from the delegate.

There are two cases where this could violate The Freedom of Speech: (1) if the offending nation, by being a resident is guaranteed the same rights as citizens, (2) if the offending nation is owned by A Slanted Black Stripe or another citizen and duality happens to not be recognized by the laws of The East Pacific. The “Jury” is still out on this issue and the former argument has been played out all across the feeders and sinkers – recently, The South Pacific also vetted a bill to give recruiters’ a bill of rights.

What do you think? Do recruiters (as residents) have rights? And should established members of a region be ejected for recruiting?

UDL-LED COALITION ATTEMPTS LIBERATION OF COFFEE HOUSE
September 1, 2013.

Day #2 of the Interregional Coffee Embargo. Status: _CrazyGroggy_ Image

WRITER’S LOUNGE, COFFEE HOUSE – A coalition of enthusiastic defenders led by The UDL, but joined by The FRA, TITO, SDF, EPSA and PEF, attempted to liberate Coffee House at major update only minutes ago.

Despite a force as large as 27-40 soldiers (according to various estimates), this diverse battalion was quickly matched with fierce opposition from the invader delegate.

In the end, the defenders were displaced to Kandarin’s barbeque. However, as the murmurs get louder here at the Coffee House, the invaders drinking their steaming cups of colombian brew seem to be less excited about their victory here tonight and more anxious about the Regional Influence left on their delegate and the prospective liberation efforts coming in the near future.

“To be quite honest, I think we all feel very violated here,” says one invader, between sips of a searing hot latte, “if we were just a bunch of regular guys sleeping out in a Coffee House we’d be called ‘liberal arts students’, but no, we’re ‘invaders’; it’s just irritating, that’s all. These defenders seem to follow us wherever we go but we just want to be treated like… like everyone else”.

As I patted the sobbing invader on his shoulder gently, I reassured him that there was much ahead for the ongoing saga in Coffee House – and I should reassure you, faithful readers, of that too!
