Socialists/Communists: They're under your chair RIGHT NOW!

So I watched this town hall meeting, and I heard someone shouting at the man, "I'm scared of Obama!" When asked why, they replied, "Because he's a socialist!" In the documentary "Patriocracy", a tea party elderly woman was yelling at the aforementioned man (a former Republican representative ((Bob Ingles)) that "McCarthy had it right". This brings up something interesting: Why is do a few parts of America act so afraid and antagonistic towards Socialist and Communism? Those who do such treat it like it is the boogeyman who is out to get you.

NSG, my question is: is McCarthyism still present in America? (Well, of course it is, seeing as how so many people seem to want to delimb communists.) If so, how strong is it? (I'm going to test this by singing The Internationale in a trailer park in Mississippi. They'll probably kill me because anything they haven't heard of is un-American.) Why do you think it is still somewhat strongly present in some places? (Because the people alive during the Red Scare are spreading the scare to their descendants.)

I don't know why people think socialism is evil. Hell, people think non-socialist polices are socialist, it's really stupid and un-logical.

Hopefully McCarthyism will be replaced by a sane, informed anti-communism.
I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

It still is to an extent. Sure we aren't wildly accusing everyone of being a communist like we used to, but America certainly has an adverse view of even the most democratic forms of Socialist policies like those that exist in western Europe. And there are many people in the US that still considered any form of leftism to be dangerous.
