The Börstisch Bereitschaftspolizei Arresting Rioter in Seneka

Press Release
Image

It all started out on the 10th of June when activists were protesting ongoing government austerity in front of the country's largest Stock Market the Seneker Aktien Index, the activists camped in front of the Stock Market for 12 hours before being asked from the Stadtpolizei or City Police to remove themselves from the premises. The Activists came to a conclusion that the request was reasonable after 12 hours, longer than the normal work day.

After the night past the activists came back but with more media attention, but the police were waiting again. Then repeatedly asked the activists to leave at the request of the Seneker Akiten Index hosts. The crowd began to become violent with the City Police. One officer was severely injured and is still in hospital for a broken nose and several fractures underneath his eye causing blindness. Soon afterwards more youth arrived on the scene of the small scuffle and turned the scuffle into a riot. The City Police do not have legal authority to forcefully remove them from premises. The Riot Police arrived on the scene and began to disperse the crowd.

On the next day more youth arrived and began to camp in front of the Stock Exchange, some traders stayed at home fearing more violence. The Riot Police tried to peacefully ask the youth to leave the premises once again but were confronted with Molotov Cocktails and fireworks. They began to use force, 300 protesters were detained and released the night after. The cycle continued to repeat until June 15th.

Last night a protester was killed from an enemy of his. The Police detained the man and brought him to jail where he is awaiting a trail. The protesters began to blame the cops on the murder and more and more youth began to show up. They were dispersed with liters of tear gas and force by the police.

The President of Börste, Otto von Verisch has called the protesters "abusers of democracy" and demanded the protesters to stop rioting in the streets of the capital, which has been famous for the tranquility in the past. The President has also stressed restraint and protesters once more.

Seventh day of riots in Börste ― Pyotr Lorentz, university student

Pyotr Lorentz ― or Peter, as his friends in university called him ― had been sick of it all. After all, his parents in Paradizna only knew so much about the world, and they were so sure in what they knew that they were impossible to talk to. It was the main reason that he applied to go overseas on a student's visa, to study at the university at Seneka, Börste. Because, screw it all.

At least, Peter thought he thought he was hip with everything. But as he ran his face under the harsh, cold water under the sink in a public restroom, he had the gut feeling that somewhere, sometime, he might have screwed up badly. He had been there when someone ― no-one could tell who, in that massive mob of protesters ― shot a man. He had been there when the police threw tear gas and beat down the people who remained in front of the stock exchange. He had ran away, with his head under his shirt, crying profusely ― away from the madness of it all. Maybe coming to the rally wasn't such a good idea.

A resonating buzz in his pocket stopped him mid-thought. "Hello?" Peter answered, turning off the water with one hand, then bringing it up to wipe his nose. "Hey, man," came the drawled-out, casual reply. It was the voice of Martin Bielski, who was one of the first friends ― and few Paradiznian students ― that he had met. "You alright? We lost you in the crowd."

Peter only sniffled, but Martin understood. "Dude, remember to pack a bandana or a cloth or something and soak it in vinegar. Or just piss on it. It smells something awful, but you won't feel as shit as you do right now." Peter nodded in appreciation.

"Right," he said. Pausing slightly, Peter continued, "Mart, d'you think that we're doing the right thing?"

"How do you mean?" came the sharp reply.

"Well... I don't know, it feels like we started out by protesting against the austerity measures and the tuition hikes, but it just feels like protesting for the sake of protesting now. We're breaking shops, people, whatever... and what's the point of all this? What's the point of violence? It doesn't look like we're going to accomplish anything, and―" Martin interrupted him.

"You're, like, such a fucking hippie, man. If we don't fight for our rights, who will? The fascists that run this country? They want to crush all the new immigrants, like you and me; the youth, like you and me; and the non-conformists who don't take shit from the church, the system, or the establishment ― like you and me. You hear me, bro? It's either we stick together and we have a chance at showing what 'popular opinion' is to these nazis, or they'll step all over us. Now, are you coming to the stock exchange today or what? We're going to demonstrate again for the heck of it. Well? Are you in? Come on, man, don't leave me hanging."

Realizing that he was silent for a little too long, Peter conceded. "Aight, I'll meet you guys there. Same time." He hung up.

Of course, saying something in the restroom was one thing. Once he got to the stock exchange, the crowd still milled about as if the tear gas and beatings before hadn't even fazed them. Peter was quickly lost himself in the shouting, angry, violent mass of people that was gathered there. Cars were overturned, things were on fire, the ground-level windows to most buildings around them were already trashed. Peter didn't find Martin, but at this point, it didn't matter to him. Nothing did.

The wall of riot police with their shields and faceless masks were the poster-boys of the villains, in their uniform, looking sternly at the crowd. Their apathy stirred up the mob to even greater heights of anger. Peter pushed his way to their front.

"I do hope they're paying you enough for your crimes, dog," he yelled in German over everyone else, jabbing his finger at the uniformed man in front of him. "Because sooner or later, you'll have it coming. Justice will own you, and your kids, and your slutty little wife who's being screwed over and sideways by the government you're working for. Are they paying you enough for that? What about the lives of other people? Eh? Answer me!" The policeman ignored him completely.

Seeing red, Peter reached down to grab a hefty rock, the size of a radio set. "Maybe this will help you remember," he said, as he raised it over his head and lobbed it into the middle of the police line. The rock travelled in a perfect arc over the officer.

Hesse Kassel has been monitoring the situation in your nation for several days. We would like to know somethings about Borste. What type of government is your nation? Also what do you plan on doing with these citizens?

Hesse Kassel is ready to render aid to which side we deem necessary to support.

The Police line was strong and filled with fit and active Riot Police. The protesters became more and more angry with the government through the past 7 days, it was the police's understanding that the riots would settle over the days. But instead the rioters became increasingly violent. Rocks and Molotov Cocktails became increasingly popular as a weapon for the protesters. On the seventh day the police brought in water cannons and the protesters began to retreat.

Over 400 protesters were arrested on the Seventh Day, rumors are going throughout the city that contains over 3.2 Million people that a large group of pro-government vigilantes are going to attempt a lynch. The Police are on alert for the next day that would be the 1st day of the next week of riots.

The Stock Market has been closed down and all the Stock Brokers were instructed to trade via the Internet. Since then the largest company in Börste has lost 39% of its stock and the Seneker Aktien Index is rather volatile.

Otto von Verisch has released a statement:

Citizens of Börste,

The former tranquil country of Börste has been damaged by these savage protesters. These protests have damaged the countries reputation and has damaged the very economy of this nation. The Nation of Börste has also have received a request from the Republic of Vectors, which we decline, we do not need a brutal crackdown. If the rioters want their concerns to be addressed they need to do it the democratic and legal route. Thank you.

After the Presidents speech the Bundespolitizisten have announced a massive seizure of arms and bazookas flooding into the country.

Intel gives us that your nation has some rather deadly riots happening. Let our soldiers help you... for a price of course. We demand to put private corporations on your nation and in return we send 10,000 foot soldiers and one elite Snake agent. Deal?

Police Station ― Pyotr Lorentz, university student

Peter kneaded gently at his cut lip and bruised face as he waited in the stark, white room. In front of him was a desk and lamp. It was pretty obvious what was going to happen next, even though Peter was loath to acknowledge it. He looked at the door sullenly. Remember: all I need to give them is my name, rank, and serial number, he smirked. Who am I kidding?

When the police officer entered the door, Peter interrupted him, mid-sentence. "Before you say anything," he winced. The cut lip made it painful to speak. "Fuck you―" he raised his middle finger, "―and I want my fucking phone call. I know my rights."

With the phone in his hand, Peter paused momentarily. He didn't dial up Martin, or his lawyer, or his friends: going through the phone directory, he decided instead to call the Paradiznian consulate in the city. "You've reached the consulate office of the Commonwealth of Paradizna in Börste," said the voice in clear English. "For service in English, please press one; for service in Paradiznian, please press two; for service in German, please press three." Glancing up at the police officer, Peter pressed two.

"Would you like to speak to a representative?" Peter pressed the appropriate number. "Please hold," the automated voice said.

"How can I help you today?" said another, deeper, masculine voice. "Yes," Peter said, in rapid Paradiznian. "I'm Pyotr Lorentz, a Paradiznian citizen; I'm being held at a police station because I happened to be at the stock exchange at the wrong place, at the wrong time. I need help ― oh, I don't know ― coming back to Paradizna. This is rather urgent."

"And you're saying that you've been wrongly arrested and charged? Has anything else happened?"

"Oh, I've also been beaten and stuff. Dreadful things are happening here. Anyways, I need your help―" Peter was interrupted. "Please hold," said the voice on the other side. "We're receiving a sudden influx of calls. Please hold the line. Thank you."

Peter waited for another minute on the phone before he hung up, faced the police officer, shrugged, and was led away.

Paradiznian Consulate Office in Börste ― Julian Bielski, Paradiznian ambassador to Börste

Some distance away, someone was very angry. Julian Bielski, the ambassador from Paradizna to Börste, was absolutely ballistic, and it was a wonder that he hadn't begun to throw things. "I want to know where by son is being held," he yelled at his staff, desperately and unprofessionally. "Where are they holding him? What for? Why hadn't I been contacted?"

He wheeled around. "Well?" he asked. One of the less timid staff members rose to the occasion and replied, "We don't know where he's being held, sir," he said, putting the phone he was on down. "But if your son was involved in the rioting―"

"Never mind all that," Julian snapped. "Diplomatic immunity extends to family members sponsored by me, doesn't it? Well, then, why haven't we been contacted? Unless the government here suddenly decided to throw that out the window, I plan to write them a very stern warning, indeed, a diplomatic note of protest, in fact: and I'll be writing back to the Commonwealth as well―"

"Then why don't you do that?" Julian wheeled around, disconcerted for a second. "Why don't you write?"

He took a moment to regain his composure, noticing his appearance. "Maybe I will," he sniffed, adjusting his tie. "Well then, excuse me," he moved through the crowd of people in the office who had been gawking at him, and retreated to his office.

PLACEHOLDER LETTERHEAD UNTIL I HAVE ENOUGH TIME

To the Borste government,

As the ambassador from Paradizna, we believed to have been extended diplomatic immunity to ourselves and our immediate family residing here by your government. As of currently, we also believe that such courtesies have been withdrawn, noting that our son, Martin Bielski, is currently one of the 27 Paradiznian citizens who have called this office, claiming wrongful criminal accusations.

Therefore, in all acting powers and in representation of the Commonwealth of Paradizna, we do request the immediate release of Martin Bielski and the current twenty-six other Paradiznian citizens under your custody. Failure to do so will mean further action.

Julian Bielski
Ambassador
