My favourite characters include Spock, Kirk, Picard, Pike, Seven of Nine, the Doctor, and Q (mostly because the actor is good).

I love Star Trek The Next Generation. Picard is a lovable character, Data is just the best, Troi is hot, it is just a great show.

What is most potent in Star Trek, I feel, are the unique themes the episodes intended to express, especially considering the time in which they were produced--issues of race, religion, sexuality, and various features of the human experience. Most remarkably, it was comfortable with condoning atheism as well as same-sex and interracial relationships; a few issues of debate were unfortunately censored, especially those enquired by Data.

It was quite a bit subtle, I suppose, in that every character was supposed to be atheist:
"Roddenberry made it known to the writers of Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation that religion and mystical thinking were not to be included, and that in Roddenberry's vision of Earth's future, everyone was an atheist and better for it."

DS9 at large diverged from Roddenberry's original concept. Section 31, the Tal Shiar, the Obsidian Order, et al. had no place in his utopian vision of the show.

Who thinks JJ Abrams' movies will spark enough interest for another TV series? Is there a possibility of another TV series even, or do you think all the stories have been told already?
