No, no, no, no, NO! I'm going to attract a metric ton of flame here, but the US's government isn't the best. If you get sick, and you don't pay insurance companies, they will leave you to die. Sure, private health care is apparently 'better' than universal healthcare, but only if you can afford it. If you're unemployed, you're screwed in America. What sort of country can be seen to have the best government if it leaves people to die over matters of money?

This is simply not true.

NOT WESTERN

It is a Western Style democracy. Wikipedia describes Brisbane (which is on the east coast of Australia, making it one of the World's eastern most cities) as a western city. Meaning it has far more to do with politics and culture than geography.

I admire the civil but vicious namecalling and catcalls in the British Parliament.

Our South Carolignian windbags pale by comparison.

That is pretty entertaining. I try to watch the House of Commons on CSPAN whenever I can. It's kind of like a SITCOM only better. :lol2:

I was wondering why everyone prefers Switzerland's governemnt? I mean what exactly is/are the quality/qualities that are making people pick Switzerland, if you don't mind me asking?

It is intriguing. It's a remarkably backwards country, but people seem to reckon it's amazing.

No, no I don't think it is.

The two global cities and economic centres of Zürich and Geneva. Switzerland is one of the richest countries in the world by per capita gross domestic product, with a nominal per capita GDP of $67,384.[6] Zürich and Geneva have respectively been ranked as having the second and third highest quality of life in the world.[9]

The strong sense of belonging to the country is founded on the common historical background, shared values (federalism, direct democracy, neutrality)[10] and Alpine symbolism.[11]

Also, Switzerland's most popular party is a Right Wing party that I happen to like.

The fact that the SVP is exceedingly popular is pretty offensive to me on a personal level. Kicking out immigrants and the like is Not A Good Thing.

They certainly make it far harder for foreign workers to get citizenship, and are into letting individual communities deciding if they want to schmeiss them raus and the like.

It just seems odd that anyone who's been working and living in a country for at least six years (and usually more like ten) can have their citizenship vetoed by their local community.

It's selective immigrantion. Switzerland is the not the U.S.

If an immigrant has skills that benefit Switzerland or the community, he/she can come. If not, not welcome. I fail to the see the problem?

In theory? The Italian Constitution is just wonderful. It only has a minor flaw (not enough clear-cut laicitè).
In practice? I'd say a toss-up between France and Germany.

As for the most-voted options here (CH and S), well, the CH Constitution leaves actually too much to the goodwill and to the intelligence of the members of the government and of the voters - imagine what could happen if a Berlusconi were to arise there. Ouch!
As for Sweden... it works well, but I'm a bit biased against monarchies.

Which actually isn't the case. Getting your citizenship ( after becoming legible for it by living twelve whole fucking years in CH ) is an purely administrative matter, no need to get the Volkssouverän involved.

Waaay to many people have voted USA without even thinking. They just think "hey thats us!" and the patriotism kicks in. Shame.
I was a true left winger, then people taught me otherwise. I was a right winger, but things seem better then that.

Looks like its smart liberalism for the win.

Agreed. The current US system of Government is far too bureaucratic and pluralistic to do any good. I still think Germany's system of federalism is the way the US needs to head.
