Boulder's Naked Halloween Streak May Be Coming to an End

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125693458626119361.html

What a brilliant piece of logic this chief of police has.

"Police acknowledge they have not been flooded with pumpkin-run-related complaints, but say that's beside the point. A throng of naked people with jack-o-lanterns on their heads is, by definition, an alarming sight, Chief Beckner says. Therefore, it's illegal."

Oddly enough i looked up definitions of alarming and nowhere did it mention organized fun loving naked people running around with gourds on their heads.

SWAT teams are, by definition, an alarming sight... so they should be illegal... ;)

How so? How about if they line up in nice straight orderly quiet lines naked with pumpkins on their heads. Is that disorderly too? Or do you just have an anti-gourd agenda?

The nudity is obviously a symbol of satanism, and as we all know, Satanism corrupts our children, making them disorderly. :)

Actually, I'm pretty sure it is indecent exposure.

Read the article. Boulder has no public nudity laws.

May haps, but it doesn't seem like the people are actually causing any problems. I'd be a bit different if they're doing it in broad daylight in front of a school, but if its reasonable that anyone who doesn't want to see it won't, let them have their fun.

So a groupf of people running around neked besides a pumpkin on there head won't cause alarm?

It would seem to be a town tradition, and, well, no. I see no reason why it would, unless you have nightmares about pumpkins assuming the place of human heads.

Its an annual organized event. If a 364 day notice that it will happen again next year isnt sufficient advance warning to mitigate alarm, then i dont know what is.

not if its been happening in the same place at the same time for several years, it'd really be expected.

In fact, the police are alarming me for trying to stop it, I demand that you arrest the boulder police department.

The fact that they're nude makes it disorderly. But there's a simple solution to this. Do on on private property. Then we can all enjoy the run without the damn cops on our tails! Of course, that does take some of the fun away, no?

It's not illegal to be naked in downtown Boulder. In fact, the city has had a long, proud history of nudity.

Let me reinforce that...

It's not illegal to be naked in downtown Boulder.

What I really don't understand about this is how the people involved could possibly be threatened with being placed on a register of 'sex offenders', if 'disorderly conduct' would be the only offence with which they'd be charged...
