Blue Laws in your Nation?

Postby Seculartopia » Sat Oct 24, 2009 8:32 pm

Does your nation have blue laws (laws that prohibit certain activities on the sabbath)

Seculartopia, being Secular, has absolutely no blue laws or anything of the likes.

we don't, but it has nothing to do with being secular. in fact, we're not secular at all. it's just that we don't practice those sorts of traditions either in theory or in practice, and as such there are no such laws

Sometimes it's unavoidable, but it isn't often done. There are no laws restricting employment though. Mostly it's just tradition!

No, the state, at this point in time does not regulate religions unless of course they are known to cause domestic trouble such as random cults. The state in and of itself is entirely secular with no bias or favor towards any religion. No church holds any political influence within the state and thus there is a complete separation between church and state in Greater Americania. On the day certain religions would deem the Sabbath, Greater Americanians are free to do what they would be able to do on any other day.

We do not have "blue" laws in the Kingdom. Blue is treated equally as with any other colour.

in cameroi, beliefs are sufficiently diverse that every day is someone's "sabath". this is the first i've heard of that as a definician for so called blue laws however. we've always thought of them as laws prohibiting what a person does to themselves and only them selves when not contributing to their hurting of others. these, in cameroi, are generally and quite literally unconstitutional.

clossest thing, maybe, would be prohibitions against mass production of automobiles and fire arms.
(likewise sale for valuable consideration or importation in massive quantities)
which as you can see is not really all that close at all.

Absolutely not. Most stores only ever close on national holidays, and even then are not required to do so.

In Goldaron (IC nation name) there are laws that state employers and educational institutions have to grant a certain number of religious holidays to each employee/student.

Not really. Jibberi is a nation of Grengoists and Grengoism doesn't really have any special times or dates that require a blue law.

No gang rape.

Other than that, none. We're very flexible with those kind of laws/restrictions.

We have no such ridiculous laws that have come from needless wars fought by those who knew nothing about what they were fighting for.

Depends on the Parish and/or City laws...some of the less Urban towns have laws prohibiting sale of Alcohol on Sunday...

But, the major cities like Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile have no such laws, mainly for economic reasons...

We don't practice such medieval barbarism. Most of our people are devout pagans and our executive branch is run by wizards and witches. Christianity is unpopular here due to past witch hunts. In fact Christians are banned from the judiciary.

being secular, there is no blue laws or "decency" laws. in fact, to get a decency law passed, you must present evidence to a court that such things harm people in a grand fashion.

Don't be silly. Such laws violate the right to privacy and the separation of Church and State, which are no longer in doubt. They are explicitly included in the 2009 Constitution's Bill of Rights, and may NOT be amended, for any reason. The ruling Republican Front is composed of Deists and secular humanists at most levels, and they have far more influence than the fundamentalists, who are still in public disfavor since the Great Pulse and the Second American Revolution.

Besides, we're not prudes. :p :)

Anathema to an Antivictorian. Our moral code is deliberately the polar opposite of Victorian morality on most issues, but we don't enforce that through law. We don't have to, since it is already more popular to live the way we do. You know, as unabashed hedonists.
