The peacekeeping effort after the Valderstien-Nordland war

Postby Great Jordan » Wed Nov 28, 2012 10:16 am

A cease fire has been agreed to!

While the treaty is being worked out the peacekeeping effort will be directed by Great Jordan General Guy Sternwood.

Currently Highleague Valderstien is still in control of the island. However a no fly zone enforced by Great Jordan and South Nordland is in place.

The peacekeeper corps is divided into three divisions:
The Naval Division which will enforce the no entrance zone around Highleague Valderstien. Its headed by a South Nordland officer to be appointed by South Nordland.
The land division which will provide security for the islands residents and patrol the river using patrol boats and helicopters. It will be commanded by a general appointed by The Occident
The Air Division, will consist of Great Jordan's air force and the air force from one of Highleague Valderstien's allies. The Great Jordanian consul will decide who will command the air division.

Great Jordan General Guy Sternwood is commander in chief of the peacekeeper corps. General Robert B. Jurnigan of The Occident is his deputy.

This forum is the sequel to the forum about the war. While not a closed forum it would be polite not to steer up trouble. If you have any questions wire Great Jordan.

OOC: The treaty negotiations and peacekeeper efforts share this forum.

Our military will provide the Tenth Armored Calvary regiment,Colonel Stafford commanding, for security reasons. It is equipped with five thousand troopers and their equipment.

We also will provide four old Huey helicopter gunships for close air support. Three CH-53E super stallions will be stationed at BLIZZARD POINT an airbase in Great Jordan provided for Archinland's use.

We also will provide twelve Patrol Craft Fast's for river patrol duties. Three USANDF (United States of Archinland Naval Defense Forces) cutters from the third fleet (Coast Guard) will provide backup. In case of serious trouble the corvette USDS Excelsior will be docked at BLIZZARD POINT. A commando unit will be stationed there as well.

We will begin to pull our forces back as soon as you can provide security.

However we want some of our people to stay behind and ensure the safety of our citizens.

The peacekeeping force on the island itself is under the command of General Ronald Baines Jurnigan, Federal Army.

Because of the island’s size, we will amend our initial troop promise to 6,750 active troops: 5,000 active and 1,750 reserves. The reserves will remain at Ancient Oaks, in the Federal mainland, until such time they may be needed.

Currently, we have the troops and ships promised yesterday en route to the island. The three patrols, the USS Logos, Mythos and Libra, will arrive on their own. The Mythos and Logos are not heavily armored nor gunned, and they will have the responsibility of providing close support to the other patrols, since they are very large and old ships. The newer, better-equipped Libra will make four long-distance patrols daily, circumnavigating the island and sailing 75 miles out from the mouth of the river and back.

The troops will arrive via the carrier USS Hagia Sophia, which will also be carrying 50 attack helicopters (30 B321 light attack helicopters, 10 B324 heavy attack/first strike helicopters and 10 civilian patrol helicopters.) The 20 traditional artillery and 12 EMA (electromagnetic artillery) will also arrive via the carrier.

After home base is set up at Wintergate, a Federal archipelago about 100 miles to the south, the carrier will depart, as it is not authorized to remain here any longer. The carrier will return to the Federal mainland. I will require a map, both political (featuring cities) and topographical, in order to assign platoons their stations. Once I have this map, I will return it to you with Federal military force placement ((which will also be displayed in the forum to prevent confusion.)) and I will give the order for troops to set stations.

Archinland’s troops will undergo occasional training exercises in urban combat readiness, artillery operation and basic counterterrorism with Federal infantry. R2 special operations soldiers will provide security for citizens of Highleague Valderstein en route to and from the island. The EMA posts (electromagnetic artillery) will NOT be fenced off, and we must ask that all civilians make efforts to remain as far away from them as possible. The Federal Army chain of command for this effort will be given after placements are made. In order to lower tensions, civilians should be free to peaceably interact with Federal troops. Interactions with Archinland troops are the discretion of Archinland itself.

The Sierrian Empire would like to pledge Peace Keeping force, to help keep peace and prosperity all over the region. The force will consist of 2000 Troops from Sierria's Enforcer Corps. Each soldier is trained as a Registered Nurse, many are actually doctors. The forces are armed with Ak-47's and a sidearm. They are trained in urban combat, and can deploy anywhere in your cities within 2 hours. We will follow your direction, and will go where we are needed. Would you accept our help?

The 5,000 Federal forces are as follows, with the command already in place from another deployment. All pertinent issues within the land peacekeeping efforts can be brought to one of these gentlemen in the event that I am unavailable.
Allied Commander: GENERAL Guy Sternwood
Army Divisions:
Battalion 42
Commander: GENERAL Ronald Baines Jurnigan
-Company 421- infantry
--Commander: LIEUTENANT COLONEL Ray DeCallahan
--Deputy: OFFICER SERGEANT * Jorge Melendez-Barraza
-Company 422-infantry
--Commander: LIEUTENANT COLONEL Rebecca Papadimitriou
--Deputy: FIRST SERGEANT Bruce Lynn
-Company 423-heavy artillery
--Commander: MAJOR Sarah Reynolds
--Deputy: SERGENT Rudy Garcia, III
Federal Air Force Command:
Company DO-8: Infantry
Commander: MAJOR Caroline Cortez
Naval Command:
Company B/22-1- Patrol
Commander: COMMANDER Marilyn James
Deputy: CHIEF PETTY OFFICER Charleston Thompson

NO MORE than 1,000 federal troops will be on the island at any given time, and the army companies will rotate the patrol. To all who wish to join the peacekeeping efforts, please follow two guidelines:
1) Take all requests to General Guy Sternwood. I, Jurnigan, am deputy, but he has final say in whether a force is allowed to join the efforts or not.
2) Keep your committed force size small, preferably around 1,000-1,250 active troops, in order to make rotations smoother.

The Unified Empire of Luthoria would like to pledge two aircraft carriers, their escort, and their aircraft to assist in maintaining the No Fly Zone over the island, as well as preventing naval entrance into the area. As with any sensible nation we would like to support the peacekeeping efforts in the region. If accepted the fleet would include two aircraft carriers, their aircraft, six destroyers, and 4 frigates.

Two carriers are not necessary, but we could use one carrier and two destroyers to make up for the Hagia Sophia's absence. If these terms are agreed to, I will order the USS Mythos and Logos to return home, and, at the same distance of patrol, up to 75 miles out from the island, the two destroyers can take their place. The carrier would likely remain much further out, probably 110-150 miles. If you offer any troops, please keep the commited force size small to make rotations easier, preferably between 1,000-1,250 troops.

I think keeping both carriers will be prudent. That way the Peacekeeping corps has the extra backup in case of an emergency.

South Norland has contacted the Luthorian Empire privately and mentioned that they would like us to use both carriers and station them off the North coast, away from the island, but within aircraft range. If you wish we may keep one carrier group forward and the second carrier group in reserve out of aircraft range, although I would worry about their ability to arrive in time should any conflict break out. Should they be stationed outside of aircraft range it would likely take them over a day to arrive close enough to carry out most missions with any loitering time.

Very well. Since speed of action is key here, it won't be a problem if your carriers are stationed north of the island. Given that, what naval forces the Occident and Archinland have committed will continue to patrol the lower riverway and the maritime are south of the island, up to 75 miles.

I am drawing a map, based on specs given to me by Valderstein and Nordland. It will be completed later on this evening and will have troop placement details on it. For all intents and purposes, anyone NOT directly involved by having troops here, meaning anyone who doesn't have troops on the island itself, may not alter this map. It will be updated once every 24 hours with news about the progress of the peacekeeping efforts, and once per week as the various nations rotate their security forces through.

Valderstein and High Nordland will not be allowed to alter the map.

General Renee Barry's motorcade was attacked by unknown terrorists. Three Archlanders were killed. Boats on the Highleague Valderstien side of the river have come under sniper fire as well. We are increasing security around our compounds and increasing our patrols. Next time we're attacked from HV we shoot back.

Sierrian Enforcer Corps troops step off of their transports in lines, and stand waiting for assignment. "Jesus, how the hell did we get into this hell hole." says Captain Marcus Calvin, looking at the war torn buildings around the airport. He then heard the barking of his superior, he jumped to attention. "Listen, we will be patrolling the area and providing medical attention to those in need. Get your supplies and get with your teams, captains have the orders. Move!" Barked The Colonel. At that an explosion, followed by gunshots covered the airfield. "Bloody hell! Hop to gents, fire at will." screams a captain to his men. After a 30 minute firefight with the terrorists, 25 men are dead. "We may need more aid here" said the Colonel.

1704, North City:

As a few of the terrorists attempt to flee into the old buildings just to the south, Federal Army armored troop carriers, taking more the appearance of actual tanks than anything resembling a traditional vehicle, lined up three deep, open fire onto the gunmen. A few aren’t even wearing anything that would remotely protect them from the frigid December evening, but oh well. The bullets don’t care how cold it is. Stopping in front of the airport, a few Federal Soldiers step out of each carrier, and, holding their M4 carbines steady (some in the back holding regular M16A2s), one kicks in the door to an old bar he saw a gunman walk into. Looking around steadily, he hears—and almost feels—a bullet fly by his head, to which the soldier behind him opens fire, killing the gunman.

While that squad moves deeper into the bar, and in a short order secures it, a few shots ringing out here and there, and the occasional sound of a gunman’s body thudding to the ground, the other two squads head into the airport, where it was seen six gunmen had fled. “Everyone, down on the ground, NOW!” yells one of the troops as the gunmen begin opening fire from a terminal gate, wounding one soldier by hitting him in the shoulder as the group uses a cornering tactic they learned in training: while three men move off to the left, firing into two fleeing gunmen, the others attempt an escape…but are quickly gunned down by Federal troops hiding behind a bar, two to be exact, their bullets each taking down one gunman. A loud scream is heard as another Federal soldier is hit in the head with a bullet, but thanks to his A4 carbonized helmet, he’ll live to see the morning. But, he’s out of the fight for now, since it’s kind of hard to shoot when you’ve got a concussion. With three remaining gunmen on the loose, the troops carefully look along the terminal gate corridors…until one of them is shot at by a loose gunman, his face dirty, and his eyes weary, attempting to fire again…until his gun jams. To this, shaking his head lightly, Sergeant Harold Richardson simply fires two rounds into his jugular vein and skull. “Well, well, well. No wonder they’re hiding. Their weaponry doesn’t even do what it’s supposed to. A struggle can be heard just shortly inside of the restroom a few hundred feet down, and a female soldier falls onto her back, wrapping her left arm around…and crushing the neck of, another gunman, an act which inspires revenge in a rather small gunman, who charges at her, gun blazing as she has no choice but to dodge the hail. Looking into his eyes, she realizes something quite terrifying…but all that suddenly blows aside…along with the gunman’s brains…as Richardson fires into him. The troops have taken up an inner perimeter formation, and have the terminal gates secured, the waiting lounges and restaurants locked and cleared, and the maintenance entrances heavily guarded. Picking the female up, she dusts off her camouflage and shrugs…”Poor kid, probably got straight As in school, huh?” she asks, chuckling a bit as they sit inside lounge B.

Coming out of one of the armored carriers, Officer Sergeant Jorge Melendez-Barraza looks over to the Sierrian cololnel, offering first a sharp salute. “Federal Army, Officer Sergeant Jorge Melendez-Barraza. I’m deputy in charge of the Federal troops here.”

1706
At Mardarin Barracks Colonel Fredrick was coming back to his office after supper. He walked in and the phone rang. A voice said "Good..." The colonel pulled the instrument out of the wall and threw it through the window. It exploded outside. An RPG hit one of the trucks and it exploded as well. Gunfire, shouts, and the blaring alarm mixed into an almighty roar that died as soon as it began. Fredrick stood and put his Bretta 92 back in its holster and swore. Why couldn't those d*mn High Nordlanders accept the fact that his men, and woman, were just here for the time being?
Overhead a Blackhawk Helicopter bearing a Great Jordan flag shot past carrying a General to another location. He had visited yesterday. He had been polite and interested, but had the enormous gall to suggest that Colonel Fredrick's armored "undercover" security trucks (Armored GMC Yukons) be placed inside the concrete garages instead of his tanks. Looking at the four burning ASTs he saw that his countries military ideas might have to change.

General Sternwood looked past General Jurnigan and out the window of his Blackhawk. Below him Federal troops, Where they 423 company? were searching a house. One of the two Huey gunships swung down and buzzed the buildings. He shook his head. Peacekeeping meant preventing further violence not fighting a war. He would have suspected Highleague Valderstien but they had been attacked as well. Ahead of him a KC-130 tanker plane slowed to refuel the Blackhawk so it could travel back to BLIZZARD POINT.
He yawned. It had been a twelve hour day. Patrol boats on the river below splashed through the waves. The entire island was under martial law and that was the only thing standing between him and total anarchy. Holding position a few miles away a couple of Anglo-Saxon planes were on patrol the near the border of the No-fly zone. He leaned back and glanced at Jurnigan. He was sleeping. Sternwood smiled and closed his eyes.

2012-12-06, 1242

In the sunny, but frigid afternoon of the North City, orders come down to Platoon 4226 to move northward, towards the site of a firefight between Archinland gunships and what will be assumed to be hostile heavy weaponry.

“Alright, if they had the balls to fire at a gunship, they’re probably not going to like our ugly mugs when we show up…” loudly beams marine Corporal Jason Redding. “We’ve traced the source of fire to a theatre rooftop. It’s wide, open, enclosed space, be on guard when we get in. The primary objective is to take out the machine gun embankment and secure the block.” To which the soldiers and marines promptly, sharply reply “Yes, sir!” Upon the stopping of the troop carrier in front of the LeGrande-Lawson Theatre, the combination of 8 soldiers, and 4 marines don’t see anything too out of the ordinary. However, all that tranquility is shattered when a bullet from a hiding enemy finds a soldier’s face, to which two more promptly day-run into the alley, resulting in a brief, but intense firefight among them and three gunmen, in which one Federal soldier is nearly shot in the head…five times…and his partner is zipped along the shoulder. Using his environment, the soldier to the right kicks an empty can towards the remaining gunman’s stomach, catching him off guard long enough for the soldier to loose a round into his skull. Upon that, the soldiers inform corporal Redding they will stay and keep the alley secure.

The rest of the men enter the building in a wedge formation, their bright forward lights allowing them to see any potential hostiles that are inside. There are none in the stage front, so four soldiers are sent backstage to see if anything is wrong. Not to their surprise, there are no actors, but gunmen who hastily load their weapons…but not before Federal bullets find them. “Get this curtain up and have Engineering come in here and take out the backstage wall.” Says PFC Michael Biggs to a private. Nodding, he radios Engineering, while the two make their way up the stairs to the catwalks that will lead to the roof. Again, to no surprise, they are forced to duck enemy fire as soon as they come onto the final step, causing the private to temporarily lose his balance. When he runs dry, one of the gunmen attempts to buttstroke the PFC with his rifle, only to have his move countered from below with a bayonet slash. In a few seconds, the two clash bayonets once more, but this time, the PFC removes his F-blade, and drives it into the gunman, all the while the private takes two shots in his chest and legs, falling to the ground as he is pounced by a gunman, whose stomach and the private’s F-blade become very good friends. Using the momentum he has, the PFC flips the gunman over the catwalk and into the stage 100 feet below, with a resounding thud.

“This is PFC Michael Biggs, requesting medic to location 7-7-8, repeat, PFC Biggs requesting medic to location 7-7-8.” He speaks calmly and without hint of exasperation as he opens the hatch to the roof, finding the embankment manned by a woman, who apparently believed her compatriots to have defeated us. Surprise, surprise, she gets a bullet in the head, too. Sitting on the embankment, he radios back to his corporal. “Rooftop secure, sir.”
