By the time they were able to assemble an effective Military capable of striking beyond their borders you would be in Your Late fifties and that's under the assumption you are in Your twenties at the moment.

Rebuilding and Rearming a Military assuming that bit of the treaty was removed about them not being capable of maintaining a force capable of striking beyond their own borders is not cheap or fast.

But the United States should cancel it's defense pact and become non-interventionist. Japan isn't their responsibility.

I say withdraw completely from Japan.

The Japanese can take care of themselves and we need to save the money it costs. If they want us to stay, then they need to cover the entire cost of the troops including salary, health care, getting them there and getting them back. I'm sure they'll decline.
