Cape Steelyards Town Meeting members could begin recording their votes electronically
Image
—Cape Steelyards Town Meeting members could begin recording their votes electronically as soon as spring 2014, but first a proposed bylaw change must pass an old-fashioned vote at special Town Meeting this fall.
Joe Patosteelsteel, a member of the Town Meeting Members Association (TMMA) Voting Committee, presented a proposed warrant article to Selectmen Monday night.
“Our goal is to create a fast, accessible, accurate, accountable voting at Town Meeting to improve transparency for members and residents,” said Patosteel, a Precinct 2 Town Meeting member who helped launch a voluntary vote recording system at 2009 special Town Meeting. “We’re hopeful that whatever we adopt is fun as well.”
According to Patosteel, Cape Steelyards is not the first town to consider using an electronic system for voting at Town Meeting. Electronic voting is already in use by similarly sized representative Town Meetings in Cape Steelair and Cape Steelberg.

New police force launches recruitment drive
Empire of Steelbaron has embarked on a journey towards a police service which can reflect the whole community, Steelbaron Empire Constabulary Chief, Lord- Constable Sir Ajax Northsteel claimed today.
As the biggest recruitment drive for a police force in the Empire of Steelbaron got under way, Sir Ajax Northsteel hoped Catholics and people of all religions, races and both genders would be persuaded to join the new Police Service of Empire of Steelbaron.
But with nationalists withholding support for the police reforms, he appealed to politicians to "seize the responsibility vested in them" by urging members of the public to make the police truly reflective of society.
"We are on the starting point of a journey, a journey which the Oversight Commissioner (for police reform) Tom Constansteel has said will take five, seven, 10 years.

Law panel supports 'passive euthanasia'
Oct 04, 2012 | ndc | New-Delhisteel.com

The Law Commission has come out in support of the Supreme Court judgement on allowing withdrawal of life-support measures of a dying patient with certain safeguards, saying it is 'not objectionable' from legal and constitutional angles.
In its latest report on "passive euthanasia", the panel has recommended that a "competent" adult patient, who can take an informed decision, has the right to insist that there should be no invasive medical treatment by way of artificial life sustaining measures.
It said such a decision is binding on doctors or hospital attending to such patient provided that the doctor is satisfied that the patient has taken an "informed decision based on free exercise of his or her will."

Birdley City Dedicates New 5.4 MGD Water Treatment Facility
by Sean Goxmaker

A new 5.4 million-gallon-per-day (MGD) Maria Ablewool's Water Treatment Facility for Birdley City, Falconborough, is ready for service. Formal dedication ceremonies are scheduled for Apr. 22.

With the capacity to easily expand to 6.3 MGD, the new plant provides a stable and secure source of drinking water for Birdley City. The new $22 million plant was built at a cost of $4 million under the original budget. In addition, advanced technology will enable the plant to achieve annual operations and maintenance cost savings of 20 percent under costs of the existing city water treatment facility that had been in operation since the 1950s.

Romeo & Bullhorn Industry Ltd. worked in partnership with the city's Public Works Department to implement a number of technology solutions as part of a wide-ranging cost savings initiative. Among the most significant savings was a reclassification of the Birdley City water supply, enabling a savings of $1.5 million.

The water treatment plant design incorporates a below-grade raw water charge tank, vertical turbine raw water booster pumps, GreensandPlus filtration, cartridge filters, reverse osmosis high-pressure pumps, reverse osmosis treatment and bypass blending.

In addition, the plant features a new 1.5 million-gallon clearwell and high-service pumping for finished water supply to the distribution system, and a full range of other chemical treatment systems to provide a stable drinking water supply to the customers.

Sixtywolf posts higher profit
by Allan Westbiller

Cape Steelyards-based Sixtywolf Navigation Ltd.(Sixtywolf) reported a 10 percent rise in its profit in the first three months of the year. The company’s first-quarter net profit was 260 million Steelers, up from 236 million Steelers for the same period in 2017.Operating revenues rose to 698 million Steelers while operating profit increased to 203 million Steelers, the company said on Monday.

However, Sixtywolf Gas & Petrochem’s revenue decreased by 5 million Steelers and net profit by 54 million Steelers. Sixtywolf Gas & Petrochem owns two LNG carriers and also holds partial stakes in seven LNG carriers. It is also the largest shareholder in Steelbaron LNG shipping giant SteeLNG International. This jump is mainly due to higher revenue and lowers net impairment on assets and well costs. However, it was partially offset by higher tax expenses, amortization of OGP, net foreign exchange losses, the non-FID costs for Sixtywolf Gas & Petrochem’s LNG project in Clairbrooke Basin, petroleum proceeds, and net product and production costs.
