A Tale of Two Cities Character RP Signup/OOC

[Telvira]

The Setting: Cilicia and Petrea are two coastal cities on opposite sides of a forest and a river-Cilicia to the east, Petrea to the west. They are both hubs of commerce, with ships from many foreign places arriving daily to trade or resupply before continuing on their way. They were built by people from separate tribes, but have had a history of cooperation and coexistence.

Both cities are very similar, with the only differences being architecture and space usage. Petrea has more one-story, single family houses, while Cilicia has more multi-story apartments.

In-between the two cities is a river, surrounded by forest. There are numerous roads that cross between the cities, with inns and taverns along the way. It takes around a day to travel from Cilicia and Petrea by horse, a day and a half by foot.

The Tech: A mixture of steampunk and WWI-era. Not cars or trains-the horse is still the fastest way to travel. However, there is electricity, provided by steam power, and running water. Factories have begun to spring up, but craftsmen are still going strong for now.

Weaponry is WWI tech: bolt-action rifles, cavalry, breech-loading artillery, revolvers, pistols, etc. No airplanes or tanks-cavalry is still a major part of the cities’ armed forces. Same goes for navy-though neither city has anything larger than a cruiser.

The RP: Cilicia and Petrea have existed side-by-side peacefully for centuries. But that all changes when a pair of Cilician sailors on shore leave in Petrea are killed. Soon the two cities are at war, and people must choose sides.

You can RP as a denizen of either city, or as a farmer living on the outskirts, or an outsider caught up in the chaos. I’ll be RPing as two people-a pair of lovers, one from each city, Romeo-and-Juliet style. Others can do the same or something else. I have the final say on who gets in, but there isn’t much I won’t be OK with.

It was on one of these trips he met Reiko Koiyashi, the daughter of another merchant. They met several more times, eventually falling in love. Marcus’ family originally disapproved of the couple, preferring Marcus find someone from Cilicia, but Reiko eventually won them over.

Short Bio: Born in a nearby city, Dorian is a distant kinsman of his home city's ruler. He was sent as a diplomat to Cilicia to solicit their help in a war, but when the cities begin their own conflicts, he is unable to get back across the river. To his dismay, his brother (who was sent on the same mission, but to Petrea) has volunteered to help the Petrean's fight. Dorian does not want war, but knows that peace is never permanent, and is willing to fight if he must, if only to win favor in the eye of the Cilician ruler.

In his early life Tage was found orphaned on the street as a theif. His life job it seemed until the Church of Sco in Cilicia at the age of 6. He started his early life among monks and monkess' and learned to read and write. A good thing in a modern world. At 10 he was adopted by Jake Forest, who was a Forest Ranger. Tage always liked escaping to the forest when he was in the church, much to the dismay of the Clergy there. But as he was soon delighted, he didn't have to in Forests... well Forest hut. Tages life soon became heaven as he was Apprenticed by Jake at 12, the legal apprenticing age. At 15 he became one of the youngest Rangers. 2 months later disaster struck, Jake, his liftime mentor, and role-model, was shot in a back ally by one of Cilicias most prominent gangs, the 'Port Side Land Sailors' (PSLS or Persils for short). It wasn't hard to remember past things, and was accepted back into the Vrax, the largest crime orginisation this side of Heverdown (A inland city). 10 months later war was called and everyone got to action.

Short Bio: Tadayoshi was born in a city to the West of Petrea and as a child had always been an avid hunter. Later as he grew into a man he would be conscripted into his cities military to fight in a war against another city, and it was here that he gained his reputation as one of the best marksmen alive. Myths and Legends spread about his skill, and such was his reputation that the enemy cities officers refused to go anywhere near the front lines for fear. When a ceasefire was declared followed by a truce he felt at a loose end. Released from the army and no longer holding his status as a hero of his home city when he received a request from the city of Petrea to be in charge of a newly formed sniper school he jumped at the chance. For the past two years he has trained numerous snipers for the city of Petrea and has fallen in love with his adopted city.

Short Bio: Jessica was born and raised in the outskirts of the city of Petrea. Her mother died giving birth to her and so she and her three brothers were raised by her father. This meant that she tagged along with her brothers and her lack of a female role model meant that she acted like a male would be expected. She, along with her brothers, would often get into fights with others her age. As she and her brothers grew older and their father died from disease they started stealing to survive. Two years ago they pressed their luck too far and were arrested. When Jessica learnt of the three possabilities being considered for her sentance, life in prison, deportation or execution, she broke down. It would be pure chance that she would be seen byTadayoshi Yamada, he was visiting one of the students of his new school who had tried to desert and had been inprisoned next to her. Taking pity on her he asked the court to offer her a chance to avoid the punishment for her crimes by joining his school. After lengthy deliberations the judges accepted and when she was offered a chance to escape punishment she took it instantly. Upon arrival at the sniper school she discovered that she had an affinity for rifles, and was top of her class in almost every aea of study. She is vastly different individual to who she used to be and is not Tadayoshi's star pupil she is also fiercly loyal to him for offering her a chance to turn her life around and to make something out of it.

Short Bio: Born into a fairly rich family, with a long distinguished line of militay men, Azehk had a very priveleged upbringing, recieving an excellent education from the best tutors offered, especielly in the ways of tactics and strategy, and his father trained him in the ways of weapons from a young age. Despite this however, he has little experience in war, his only knowledge being theory and what he's gleaned from books and his father's stories, and so realistically he is as yet ill-suited for his rank, which he got through a hefty commision, and as a favour towards his father. He is a well-meaning, generous sort of man, though he was rather sheltered as a child, and has little to no knowledge of the way the lower classes live.

At the age of fourteen Gale's mother gave in to illness and after that the family collapsed, leaving her father devastated and unable to take care of her and her brothers. After that, they left home and lived out on the streets. When her brothers were old enough they joined the military and she did as well when she was of age. After four years, Gale retired and became an assassin, doing odd jobs around the city when they are available.

He went off to the military when he was rather young but was forced to come back home after a few years as his only family had died and the theater was now in his care.

Short Bio: Alexis' mother died in child birth to his younger brother who died a few months later, this double loss caused his father to drink away what little fortune his parents had acquired for him. This meant that Alexis had to work for everything from a young age, when he was 8 when his father sold him onto his first shipping vessel, luckily it was one of the Varden fleet, he would hear stories of how Frederick worked from the ranks of cabin boy all the way to captain in 12 short years to then have a shipping empire that stretched from this continent and beyond. This is what Alexis wanted and finally obtained, granted a few years later then his idol (with no help from his drunken father, whom he supported a little too much) but nether the less he was there at the start of his own merchant fleet.
