If I were a student in a high school and they said they wanted to hit me with a paddle, I'd tell them to go fuck themselves, consequences be damned. But these kids grow up in a culture of fear and submission and I wouldn't blame them for their learned helplessness.

CNN wrote:Springtown High School sophomore Taylor Santos requested corporal punishment because she didn't want to return to in-school suspension, a punishment she said she received when a classmate cheated off her, CNN affiliate WFAA reported. Her mother agreed because it was Taylor's preference, but expected her daughter to be hit by a woman: A district policy says corporal punishment should only be administered by people the same sex as the student. Although a woman was in the room, a man hit her, leaving red marks and welts that lasted for days, Taylor and her mother said.

OP link wrote:Cathi Watt, whose daughter was one of the two girls recently paddled, said Tuesday that she’s OK with paddlings in schools “because they need it once in a while, and I got them when I was a kid.” But she said the male administrator used too much force, so she does not support the new policy.
Watt said her 16-year-old daughter, Jada, deserved to be spanked after she spoke sarcastically to a teacher and an assistant principal, “but she did not deserve to be bruised.”
“And what kind of message does it send these boys?” Watt said. “Is it telling them that it’s OK to hit a girl?”

She told them she'd rather be paddled then face other consequences.
I mean, seriously:CNN wrote:Springtown High School sophomore Taylor Santos requested corporal punishment because she didn't want to return to in-school suspension, a punishment she said she received when a classmate cheated off her, CNN affiliate WFAA reported. They asked for corporal punishment.
They got corporal punishment.
Now suddenly they don't like corporal punishment?!

A post-Soviet, semi-constitutional monarchy with a strong sense of tradition. Basically just a humble, subarctic nation of (heavily armed) fishermen, lumberjacks and farmers trying to maintain their cultural identity in an increasingly cosmopolitan world.
A reactionary monarchist in America. Anti-NATO.

I'm talking about in general, not in this particular case. Also, if someone is cheating off her, why did she get punished (unless she was helping someone cheat off her)?

Taylor said she didn't know a fellow student copied some of her classwork, but the school sent both girls to two days of in-school suspension.
"I think Taylor is proof that we need to keep that policy," she said. "I don't believe a man intentionally meant to do that to her, but it still happens, because men are too big and strong to be hitting 96-pound girls."
