Season 22
Season Roundup
Avenida Principal have crowned themselves Farf champions for the third time in their history! The Knights are in dreamland. Even though they were predicted to be in the title race, they were a priori only the fourth-best team. All of their players had very solid seasons, but a few stood out. The two most important players of the team were Karl Varsteeg and Iñaki Ibarra. The former was a defensive stalwart and a huge offensive threat, while the latter provided goals and assists when they were most needed. Angelo Gelinas scored his fair share of goals, and it's safe to say the Knights wouldn't have made it without him. Truly an inspired signing. Vareza Na'Noni was also immense, providing much needed midfield backbone and even scoring a last-minute equalizer against Avenida Leal that would eventually prove vital. Abuda, Renato Capion and Thomas Hancock played no small part in the title.
Avenida Leal were agonizingly close to claiming back-to-back titles, but it was not meant to be. Still, it was hardly a bad season for the Loyals. Ostadar Arambilet was, once again, immense for them. Max Fawden and Titus Blackett proved about as deadly as last season, and Itxaso Zuazubiskar had one of his best seasons to date. Krysia Bailey and Torsten Navarro were very solid at the back. With rumours of Ruy Monrazón making a return and the possible signing of Amarinho from Gorfalle Town, the future looks very bright for Avenida Leal.
Just four points behind, the very same Gorfalle Town shocked everyone by finishing in third place. They got to the last matchday still in the title race, but the miracle they needed never arrived. Still, the only set of fans that could conceivably be more happy than theirs is Avenida Principal's. Amarinho had an immense season providing assists and scoring goals left and right. Were it not for him, the Canaries wouldn't have done even close to as well as they did. But even though Amarinho's presence was absolutely vital up front, their defense was the most solid/least leaky in the league. Even though their back three was conformed by Casimiro Forrheje, Toby Toste and Elip Guerra (so no great players), they were indubitable proof of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. Gundai Joneätaon was a big threat on the right flank.
Avenida Victoria have, against all odds, mounted a return to the top of the table after the retirement of Ronnie van Rijn. Could this mean their return as title contenders? Possibly. Ascensión Ekvinter was the best goalkeeper in the league. Yülàáê Mî and Gâyö Mî seemed to completely forget they're thirty-five and put on performances reminiscent of the times when they started for the national team. Ramón Fonseca and Valerio Negrini were the ones who made the Victorians' game flow much more freely, racking up many assists in the process.
Gran Faro 70 proved last season was no fluke. They're here to challenge for UICA spots for the foreseeable future. Elías Ruiseñor never got tired of scoring, and neither did supporting striker Quirino D'amore, who also never got tired of assisting him. Ômâr Tlâhu and Aaqeq Yleqtiik also had very good seasons.
The teams that ended fifth through tenth are all very surprising. Honestly, it wouldn't have been that surprising if any of them had won, and one of them were actually favourites. Flamagua did roughly as expected, though they have their impressive strike partnership of Carlos Abrigo and José Torino Fuego to thank for that. Dí Maozöxê fans will be disappointed to have finished seventh, but not that much considering that's an improvement from last season. Lüzân Dâ Mírnév and Davorin Mijatovic had great seasons. La Nueva Avenida fans will not be happy, though. The only reason Grant Pickton has not been fired is that he is Grant Pickton. Only Zorio Etxezuniyiga, Thajan Jaros and Thjorgias Pickton put on La Nueva Avenida-worthy performances consistently. Only truly positive thing Novan fans can take from this season is that Christian Tenorio really stepped up in Cloudchaser's place. It's hard to see the Equestrian holding onto her starting spot for much longer. Fryi Frêndê were not notable in the slightest, though Basajaun Courtemanche was, as always, pretty solid.
And... well, Mâ Âlâmëómë deserves a separate paragraph. Tíbürçíô Çötàvíê, club legend, resigned at the end of the season due to how much the team underperformed. With Steffan Pekarik resigning as Farf national team manager, it's clear as day where he's heading next. Tanith Rainsford, World Cup winner, Fôrté Wínrôuge, the star of the Farf NT, and Eoin Killanen, their new signing, had great seasons. Everyone else? Not so much. Risko Kâí failed spectacularly as lone striker. Kaj Aurora and Johan Tijgers Landhuis looked very average. Kühâx and Mütó Náándéz were very bad, and Solomon Etezadi just couldn't cope without substantial support. Rôhj Tzâín did ok, but he definitely could've been better. What's the big takeaway from all of this? Mâ Âlâmëómë without Kris Campbell is nowhere near as good as most of us would've expected. New signing Gloire-Honore Mvouba will, in all likelihood, be thrust into the starting eleven next season. If he doesn't prove to be Cambell lite, things could become dire for the Greens.
In eleventh place, it is precisely the youngster's team, René Skaé Colonels, that did about as well as the Greens. Gloire-Honore Mvouba was integral to the team, scoring an inordinate number of goals for a striker his age. The rest of the team did not do that well, though, and thus the season was nothing but disappointment for the teams' fans. Archard Rigozsoldos proved himself as a very solid supporting striker, though. Even with Mvouba returning to Mâ Âlâmëómë, the future does not look that bleak for the Colonels.
In twelfth place, Ausharmuj Marusi turned out to be a lot more solid than predicted. Their first season in the top flight can only be considered a success. Players like striker Traé Marazas and midfielder Sdreí Fígiras proved they could very well play for an upper-mid table team.
Below them, Duyrmyta Fau and Dor Frío had very uneventful seasons. Sent 01 flirted with relegation a bit, that they ended up steering clear by a healthy six-point margin. Libertarian Ferdullaele only escaped relegation thanks to Gorfalle Town's goalkeeper. Their fans won't look back on this season very favourably.
Shockingly, Flying Jellyfish have been relegated. This means Fryi Frêndê are now the only team to have spent every FFL season in the top flight. They were, in a sense, unlucky to have had to play Gorfalle Town in the last matchday, when they had hopes of winning the title. And even then, they were the better team in that last match. But that was no use, it couldn't make up for the disappointing season they had.
Ñandfe's return to the top flight was very far from triumphant.
Fragardallians escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season. This season, their glaring weaknesses could not be overcome.
