Opinions on Democracy and Political Rights
• All races deserve the same rights, freedoms and responsibilities.
• The only legitimate government is a democratic government.
• Citizens should have the right to freely criticise government policies to bring constructive change.
• To ban outright extremist parties, as well as parties that promote violence or social unrest. By removing violent fringe groups from the election table, we believe that Jovians can move forward in a united, and peaceful, manner. (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=192793)
Opinions on Economy
• Private property is good.
• The government should regulate natural resources and international companies more.
• Citizens should have economic rights to a basic standard of living: food, shelter, etc.
• Workers should enjoy a certain degree of liberty and rights, as long as they fulfill their responsibilities.
• Generally, taxes make life worse. However, the rich should be taxed more than the poor.
Opinions on Social Issues and Civil Rights
• All creeds and beliefs should be accommodated, but the government should be secular.
• The right of bodily sovereignty trumps the right of the fetus; in other words, legalise abortion.
• The government should regulate drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and guns more carefully.
• Citizens should enjoy fundamental civil rights that should not be taken, even in times of war.
B. JOVIAN SOCIALIST PARTY
- Party Name (and abbreviation if it has one): Jovian Socialist Party (JSP)
- Party Colors (max. two colors): navy blue and silver?
- Party Leader (optional): -- (don't feel like I have enough information on typical Jovian names to name him/her, but he/she should be at least thirty years of age, unmarried and childless, born and raised above the poverty line, and have a large amount of military experience.)
- Island where the party is stronger (Io, Europa, Ganymede or Callisto):callisto
- Opinions on democracy and political rights: the official party position is that democracy is only effective at the local level at best, and that all positions above local town mayors should be appointed instead of elected. government should be run be a single unelected leader, (their party leader) and this leader would appoint all other government officials above town leaders. this leader would also directly appoint their successor. the party does, however, support an elected cabinet of advisers to the leader, who would have no official political power but would ensure that the wants of the people at least get heard.
the party's position of political rights in general leans towards against. the people should be able to have their views heard, but those views shouldn't directly affect policy.
- Opinions on economy: the party's official position is technically mixed-market, but very heavily leaning on the socialist side. large industries devoted to resource-gathering and manufacturing should be owned and managed by the state, and all areas of business should be more heavily regulated. the state would be easily the largest employer, owning at least half of all primary and secondary industries, however the government would only regulate service industries instead of actually taking part in them. the creation of jobs in foreign nations would also be heavily regulated and near prohibited. a minimum wage would be established, and set according to living standards, the party firmly believes that anyone working full-time should be able to live off of it. areas such as education and the police force would be completely under government control, up to and including college level for education. the party does also advocate for higher taxes to pay for this.
- Opinions on social issues and civil rights: the party and its members tend to be rather conservative with social issues, with the noticeable exception of homosexuality. homosexuals would be given the same status as heterosexuals, as would those who are transgendered or that do not identify with a defined gender. abortion would be made illegal unless the mother's life was in severe danger, and immigration would be discouraged for all but skilled individuals. immigrants found within the nation illegally would be immediately deported unless underage and without living relatives.
one of the party's major goals would be to achieve higher funding and standard for police forces, as well as increasing the overall number of policemen in the nation, to help deter crime of any type. law courts and prisons would also be given more funding, to ensure the proper holding and punishment of criminals. achieving higher funding for the military is also another of the party's goals, as well as upping enlistment, and the party would attempt to establish benefits to those with military affiliation.
C. RIGHTIST COALITION
Member Parties:
- Mayor Ideologies: The Rightist Coalition is an alliance of political parties of different ideologies but all of them opposed to socialism and based on the right-wing of politics. Many of them are close to the radical right wing and to fascism, while others are advocates of capitalism and a more liberal right-wing. Some parties are moderate forces that support economical measures that some may view as "socialist" like universal health care and State owned enterprises or schools.
D. LEFTIST COALITION
- Mayor Ideologies: The Leftist Coalition doesn't have an official ideology, but rather it is formed by many parties from the far-left and center-left, and even some that would be associated more with the center-right, in opposition to both the mayor left-wing parties and the Rightist Coalition which is closer to the radical right wing.
Vote for your favorite party/coalition.
NOTE: There was a mistake in the parties of the leftist coalition. When the post was edited, only 2 votes were cast, both for the Rightist Coalition.
