Religion and the world- Your Ideal Earth

Postby New Heathera » Mon Jul 16, 2012 9:02 pm

So, with all the religion threads around and seeing many varied opinions on religion, I want to see what it is NSG users actually want for the world regarding religion, with a poll. Basically put, what is your ideal world? Is it a world where everyone follows your beliefs? Is it a world where the beliefs are as diverse as they are now, only all of those beliefs are accepted and respected? I'm interested to see people's thoughts.

I am Christian, and I believe in the latter, a world where all beliefs are tolerated and treated with equal respect. Though I feel we are a long way off from this world, I do believe it may someday be achieved at least on a majority scale in the distant future. It will take cooperation and years of healing hateful divisions among the various theist and atheist beliefs to achieve this, however.

I would want a world where everyone was atheist and all superstitions outside of religion were also rejected. Except Santa. Presents are awesome.

Furthermore, I would not want a world where all beliefs were granted equal respect. Why should I respect someone who cannot prove what they are saying, yet claim it to be fact?

I'd like to see us free to seek spirituality if we are drawn that way.

Religious tolerance.org has some good thoughts along those lines.

And let's not kill for or against beliefs, okay? It's worse than useless.

So, you are saying it's wrong for people to have varied religious beliefs? You're saying your beliefs are absolute, and it's wrong for people to think otherwise?

I give every belief the same respect. That is, no respect, but it's still an equal amount.
PEOPLE, on the other hand, I do respect.

Personally, more than wrong, I'd say that having any religious belief is mostly pointless. But hey, even liking music and comics is mostly pointless.

Ideally: No religion. Everyone is atheistic.
Realistically: Toleration and secularism.

Tolerance more so than anything...

It would be so boring to be all alike in our beliefs...
And so it was, that I had never changed.

Ideally their would be no organised religion but people could believe, worship whatever they wanted and everyone would tolerate said peoples beliefs whilst states remained secular :)

I'm a deist and I would prefer a society where all religious beliefs are tolerated.

Ideally where everyone would follow the invisible unfalsifiable magical unicorn floating in space.

Just kidding, I would like it to be a lot more irreligious than it is now. I'm not talking about people would be proudly saying 'there is no god' like its some new discovery, as much as it is that it seems like the completely unfalsifiable has gotten way, way too much more influence than it deserves. I just mean that things would be the same, just that people wouldn't be actively counting on the supernatural.

A world with no religion. Well, that's one aspect. It would also be populated by attractive, depraved hedonists who love me.

Why is 'atheist' counted as a belief on this poll? Could it atleast be changed to 'irreligious'?
