Then, his phone started ringing. This wasn't the cell phone he registered with the Kunet authorities, this was the one he was able to smuggle and the number was given to the OSS.
"Hello."
"Agent Fly, initiate Operation Walking Distance, you have as much time as you want, just get the job done."
"Yes sir."
Great, he thought,I get to get myself killed like I almost did when they first sent me here!
Mr. Muffins bit at his leg.
"Ow!" he said.
Henry then went to his closet and removed the board from the back wall of his closet, he pulled out his gun and concealed it. Of course, they had Scandinavian-style freedom, so, they did not even NEED to register. Well, they need to register with the companies that own the phone lines (mobile and landline phones), but that was it. Guns, however are illegal to be possessed, save for the Army and the Police.
The taxi pulled up, and said, "Hello, sir. Come on in." The fare rises by 10 esperi per minute, starting at 1.00 paco (1 lira). "Where would you like to go?"

"I'd very much like to head for the industrial area, maybe like the Wowzers! Shoes Ltd. factory. Thanks." Henry handed him 600 Lira. "Keep the change. Lovely day isn't it?"

"How many times do I have to tell you that it is not the "Wowzers! Shoes Ltd." factory, but the Harryhausen Shoe Factory? Either way, thank you," he replies.
The taxi then started down Samuel Franz Drive in the Samuel Franz Neighborhood, before it arrived on Alexander Drive, the main street on the eastern side. It then went up on the cloverleaf, and then entered the City Center. Highway One officially ends 3 kilometers northeast of Kunet. After two blocks, the driver turns left, and goes down Zamenhof Avenue (Esperanto: Zamenhof Avenuo), through the Royal Square. Then, it heads all the way down to Whiteswan Drive (Esperanto: Blankacigno Disko), the street he passed from the approach that enters the city center, and turns right. After two blocks, it leaves developed land, and then, at the interchange, the driver goes under the overpass, and then arrives at the Harryhausen Shoe Factory.
"Have a good day," he says, and once he left, the taxi left, taking a grand total of 12 minutes to head to the shoe factory.

"Yeah, you to." said Henry.
As the taxi drove away, he muttered. "Why are people so cranky?"
He then proceeded to reach into his pocket and get out a badge, a badge of one of the local newspapers, it was pristine, he was able to get it from one of his friends who worked for that agency. He then replaced the signatures and everything to fit his description and all. He was now ready to begin the first part of Walking Distance. He chose the Harryhausen Shoe Factory because a couple months ago, there was a Union strike here and the workers lost their jobs. Only some workers were able to work again, but the rest of the people were now homeless and/or working minimum wage in the local diners.
He walked up to the door and walked into the office of the factory.
"Hi, I'm working with the local news agency around here and we were wondering if we could interview one of your workers today? But could I pick the worker please? We were looking for those who took place in the strike a few months ago. I'm doing a follow up report on how those families are doing and was going to publish the story within the week. Do I have permission to interview a worker who took part in the strike today?" he asked the manager.

Of course, they finally settled the industrial action a month ago, and allowed all the workers to return, save for 12 "disruptive" workers. With the norms like Scandinavia, only 2 are homeless, the rest are working.
The manager then replied, "Show me your credentials, and I'll consider."

Henry took out his credentials and handed them to the manager. Henry had nothing to worry, they were real and just had the photo and name replaced, which really just required to take off the velcro of the old one and add some velcro to his own photo, then replacing them.
"There you go." he said.

As he checked, he then said, "Thank you. However, I am going to look for your name on the database." He then starts looking on the database of information, checking thoroughly. After 15 minutes, it turns up negative.
"Unfortunately, you are not on the list of media reporters. Are you from a new organization?"

"Got hired two days ago, takes time for the database to get around, maybe because there was a power outage a couple days ago so that might explain why you haven't gotten the database Yeah, technology sometimes gets the best of us." chuckled Henry.

New Edom wrote:Today was a day of work; yesterday was a day of unpacking and moving things. This was a total adventure; with an inter-university agreement to pursue his film work, use university space and do some teaching assistance Tim had obtained the right to conduct his film work here. His documentary; he would need to hire a local crew of some kind or get them to volunteer. Need to put out ads, need to get moving! He felt such a sense of excitement. As he woke up he was oblivious to the boxes still in their bedroom as he stretched and yawned and slipped out of the bed. Catalina was already up, he could hear her in the kitchen and the little ones talking, their high voices excited. He smiled. Padding out and down the hall he found the two, boy and girl, playing with their stuffed animals; they were using a cushion as a 'boat' and the stuffed rabbit, frog, dog, bear and griffon were all squeaking in the high voices of the children, escaping a flood. Their own tame griffon, a mini bred for domesticity was in the little backyard of their rented bungalow. And there was Catalina in the kitchen! She looked arrogant to some, her head always back, her eyes distant; he knew this was her shyness, but at the moment her blue eyes were focused on finishing making breakfast. Catalina loved to cook, it made her relax; she was clearly cooking eggs, peppers and green onion in a skillet. Nothing to spatter so no apron. Her hair was like full autumn fire, down to supple creamy shoulders dusted with freckles and draped over her long back, down past her plump and shapely bottom she felt was too big but which he adored. Her breasts were full as well, and her body was stocky but shapely-- a peasant girl body, sturdy legs but nicely curving, her feet strong and wide. She sometimes rued her body, wishing she had model long legs and narrow arms instead of her strong and supple ones. He loved her body.
"Good morning, good morning, good morning," he sang out, coming to her and kissing her bare shoulder. She smiled at him faintly; she was unhappy with the move, he knew, and he took her in his arms and kissed her very gently, enjoying their bare bodies together. However she wasn't feeling very cuddly today; she wriggled away, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek and squeeze of the hand to show she wasn't angry.
"I need to find them a school today. I can't believe how fast everything has gone, and I think I'll go crazy if I have them here every minute of the day," she burst out, soft voiced but he knew she was upset, he could tell by her tone, the tension in her shoulders. "Will you promise to go with me if I can set up an interview?"
"Of course." Tim had a sneaky feeling of helplessness he sometimes did when she was upset; he could never figure out the depths of this. Their early courtship had been so intensely sweet; now it seemed she was never truly happy despite moments of mirth and pleasure. "I'll get the kids ready for breakfast."
She smiled at him; that she still enjoyed; what a good father he was to her kids. Her kids, he reminded himself, but it was so easy to forget, they were such bundles of joy! "Come on littles, wash up for breakfast!"
"Yay! Dad!" they called him "Dad" because their real father was "Daddy". They had a vague sense of him being a war hero who had died in a war. They had his picture in their room, a faint smile on his face, handsome in a barracks dress uniform, tall and dark and hard looking.
Breakfast was fun, word games and eye-spy and eating. A good breakfast, grilled flatbread to put the hot sizzling food on, fruit juice and fizzy water for all but Catalina who had mint tea with honey. Grace said to God above, who watches us with care and love.
Then kissing her again, saying goodbye. She is being a good wife--she cares about him but he had the sinking feeling that even after a short barely year long marriage she didn't love him anymore. But her skin felt so soft and warm as he embraced her, her lips are gentle on his, she gave him the cuddling she denied before, and playfully gavehim a tweak. "Don't be too late coming home," she said.
Tim headed out with his shoulder bag and sandals, his mantle in it. "Wait..." said Catalina, smiling at him. "You can't go out with that thing waving in the breeze, we have no idea what the neighbors are like. Put on a Regian tunic at least."
He looked down at himself and laughed. "Right!" Tim slipped into a tunic-jacket of light blue that went down to his knees and was fairly open around his arms. "Better?"
She giggled. "You look like a Sixington schoolboy." she smiled at him. "I love you."
Oh, how he wanted to believe her! He kissed her gently one more time, and left her with the littles for the day, heading off to the university where he hoped that his notice about needing someone for camera and sound--and ideally a good cultural guide for the city--had been responded to. He wasn't hooked up for any internet here yet and had done it the old fashioned way; a notice board. He headed for a bus station and planned to take a bus to the university.
Meanwhile, Catalina examined the news. They didn't have any news from New Edom yet, which vexed her. She felt so frustrated at being here; she had wanted to move back to Sixington but then Tim had gotten his great idea and gotten grants to cover it, and before you could say anything it had simply begun to happen. Also, being his lover had been wonderful when they were both at university together; he was an escape from her dreary home life, stuck with her uncle and aunt and their tiresome but safe family. And getting married had seemed exciting, especially because he was so good with the kids. Her feelings swirled around in her, she had no idea where they would lead. She had fixated on the idea of getting the kids into school and trying to get a local teaching job. At a local store after getting there she had simply grabbed a bunch of newspapers and a local directory and was looking for possible jobs she might be able to do that might interest her. In addition to this she tried to find out which primary school was closest and would accept two new students. And what actually were the local laws about public nudity? She actually had way more clothes than Tim, who had hardly brought any (to her annoyance) but frankly it was nice to have the choice about whether or not to wear them.

But this university she was attending was very good for her even if she didn't know what she wanted to do just yet, she got a scholarship though it sometimes mystified as to why. Some said it was just a diversity ploy but Hala wasn't that cynical she thought they legitimately wanted her to attended their academic institution and find her self. She thought of everything, art, diplomacy, agriculture even teaching.
For her next paper she had to write about an interesting life topic. She hadn't had a lot maybe moving to Eeri, her family failing at their attempts of farming, going to private school, hosting an exchange student. She pondered this sitting at the bus stop waiting for her buss to take her to her job, a very modest retail job didn't make her much money but just enough to survive on. Once her bus came she got on, showing her pass to the driver she proceed to the back of the bus took a firm grip on the holding rails as the bus jerked forward and started moving. No empty seats were around that she could see of and she wasn't disabled so she would stand. On the rare times she could sit down she would usually study, otherwise she admired the city passing by.

Henry had just about had it. He pulled out his wallet and took out 2,500 lira.
"How about I get an interview with one of your workers?" asked Henry. "It would only take an hour or two." he said. "The money here makes up for the work he didn't do, and I threw in the extra 500 lira because I'm generous." he said.
