Public holidays for each country

Postby Kingofwolves » Tue Sep 29, 2009 8:11 am

I think every country should have public holidays.
It should include: Christmas
Easter
Haloween
the day you started on Nationstates
And about 5-10 of your own....

And what about the Muslims playing this game? Do they need to celibrate Christmas? BTW I don't think this will work. And I don't want to forced to celibrate halloween I don't celibrate Halloween in the Netherlands.

How about having an issue regarding a national holiday? Basically it would add another custom field to your country which you can give a cool name :)

The People's Republic of Yargaz officially commemorates the National Day of Slayer, Talk Like a Pirate Day, Columbine Day, 9/11 (in which beer and pork are consumed in the name of un-Islamic liberty), Walpurgisnacht and Timothy Leary's birthday.

The spirit of this suggestion seems like it could be fulfilled by another customizable-field issue.
I wish I remember who wrote:Games like Nationstates are like a big cardboard box, and there are two kinds of people in the world. The kind who look at the empty void inside the box and ask "Where the hell is it?" and the kind who jump into the box with their friends and make it into a fort, or a spaceship.

These are excellent ideas worthy of inclusion. And by looking up my NSWiki page and considering our transition to FT I think I would be happy to receive and issue which establishes a national day. One option would enable it, another would say no national holiday, another would say ban holidays altogether, something like that.

I think the special issue I'm waiting for is one that allows you to pick a name for an ambassador.

But holidays would be a good idea, it could be a neat issue even without the game mechanic changes actually (though I understand thats why you're suggesting it).

Think about it, holidays are sentimental and at times patriotic or religious - but they also interupt the workplace, and productivity.

Though some holidays like Christmas bring in lots of excess cash to businesses too.

Sounds like an issue-winner to me!

As mentioned above, if you want it, write an issue for it.
