Gundam Wing fans, UNITE!

Postby Southern Patriots » Thu May 10, 2012 6:34 pm

In the distant future, Mankind has reached the stars. But the Galaxy is troubled. The Earth's Sphere Alliance rules the outlying colonies with an iron fist. Those who oppose them...die. Battles are waged with mobile suits, the key to military dominance. The only hope for the colonies: five elite soldiers and their legendary mobile suits called Gundams. Now, these pilots will shake the foundations of the Alliance and change the course of history...

...if they can stay alive.

Universal Century > After Colony!
I kid, mostly. Gundam Wing was my gateway drug into the franchise, and is largely to blame for my large and growing collection of model kits on my to-be-built stack. :D

Gundam-wise I'm a huge fan of the original Mobile Suit, and 0080: War in the Pocket.

Toonami-wise, Outlaw Star was a favorite.

Haha, Universal vs After was always such a debate. I love Zeon, but can't help loving the Leo-devastating series of Gundam Wing. If I'd had the money I'd probably have stacks of models too. :)

I loved the series, especially the mecha designs.

You could see a level of Macross influences on the part of the animators concerning the "Mobile Dolls".

Image {hint} Zentradi... :)

I was never a fan of the Gundam franchise (was always a “Robotech” fan) until i saw Gundum wing.
After that i got into the whole Mobile Suit Gundam series, from Gundam 0079 -to more recent ones.

I'd have to say that Zeta, G Gundam, 08th MS Team, and Seed are among my top favorites out of the franchise (though Wing still holds a special place as the first one I watched.) That and Tomino's trilogy of novels about the One Year War. Blows the original TV series outta the water hardcore, and I highly recommend them.

Soooo... Zechs vs Char, anybody? :P *fleeeees*

I was familiar with mecha before Gundam Wing showed up—used to rent tapes of Exo Squad—but Wing cemented my interest in the Real Robot genre. Next thing I knew, I was making fan soundtracks, reading fan fiction (and trying to write my own...badly), browsing art and rolling my eyes at the rants of Relena-bashing yaoi fangirls (which at the time I did not care for). I started checking out other mecha series, from the original Gundam to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Thank you, Toonami.

08th MS team for me, but Gundam Wing comes at a close second.

Who would I support? Char as Quattro Bajeena, but not the CCA Char.
Best character? Char hands down.
Design/Looks? Zechs Marquise
Better Pilot? Definitely Char Aznable.

Oh 08th, how I loved your epic Captain Norris and his single-handed destruction of three guntanks.

But UC-wise, 0080 War in the Pocket will always be my favorite.

That Bernie Wiseman... :(

Pilots that are not newtypes or coordinators are the best imo (no racism intended!)

Not as epic as Char Aznable (Though Zechs is a combination of Rival Char, Quattro Bajeena and Neo Zeon Char) but less messed up than Rau Le Creuset.

Well, both Zechs and Rau are Char Clones, after all. ;) Zechs is more literally a Char knock-off than Rau though, what with that whole "ace pilot who is really the son of some important political figure and happens to have a sister who fills a less combat-involved role" thing they've both got going.

Athrun fills the rival Char position in SEED. Rau is the Neo Zeon Char of SEED. Mu fills the Quattro Bajeena role.
Zechs from wing is more or less Char Aznable's entire life crammed together.
I sympathise with Zechs and Char since Zechs was chivalrous and Char was fighting for freedom. Rau was just a maniac.
