Fictional Election - who would you vote for?

Postby The Congregationists » Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:22 pm

Imagine an election is being held for head of state - POTUS or whatever its equivalent is where you're from, or party leader for Brits/Canucks etc with parlaimentary systems. In any event, here are your candidates:

CANDIDATE A) "M. BARRY" is a white male, 58. President of the National Steel Union. Annual Income: 525K/year. Baptist and strongly evangelical. Activities include hunting, fishing, football, country and western music and spending time with his wife (stay at home mom) and three kids. Believes life begins at conception, that marriage equals one man and one woman, and that American jobs should go to Americans first. Advocates for union rights and steep taxes on the wealthy and would govern on behalf of "main street instead of wall street." Has spoken in favor a single payer healthcare system and nationalizing the steel and auto industries. Plays down remarks and questions about his income level and denies allegations from the opposition that he's filed fraudulant tax returns. His stated number one priority is keeping good jobs in America.

CANDIDATE B) "JENNIFER G." is a mixed race female, 45. Director of Human Resources for a publicly traded law firm. Annual Income: 175K/year. Outspoken atheist. Activities include arts, poetry, exotic cuisine, world music and blogging about feminism and LGBT rights. Strongly pro choice, favors marriage equality and affirmative action. Says little about economic issues but her voting record favors lowering taxes and free trade, and claims that she would govern on behalf of "historically marginalized peoples." Has spoken in favor of social security privatization and energy and communications sector deregulation. Has an icy relationship with her husband, a millionaire hedge fund manager, whom she once remarked on a feminist blog called "Bitch of the House", with pride, that she'd "stopped having sex with completely" following the birth of their first and only child. Her stated number one priority is a constitutional amendment protecting a "woman's right to choose."

I know I know - both of these candidates are flawed. Neither is an entirely admirable and consistant representative of any ideology or side of the political spectrum. Question is: Gun to the head, who would you vote for and why?
•Criticism of sentimental love, marriage, sex, religion, and rituals.
•Valuing reason over emotion and imagination
•Ironic, indirect, and impersonal (objective) representation of ideas.
•Uncompromising criticism of romantic illusions.
•Advocacy of pragmatism and disapproval of idealism and ideology.
•Especially vehement opposition to neo-liberalism, social democracy, communism, libertarianism and feminism.
•Satirisation of irrational and whimsical attitudes of the so-called creative class.
•Criticism of social, political, cultural, and moral customs and manners of the contemporary society.

Jennifer G. seems like the better choice by far.

She does. If she promises to outlaw threads like this, she's a shoo-in.

We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? The choice between two identical representatives of the one-party state is inherently coercive and seeks to deny me my life, liberty and property. As such I believe we should return to the gold standard and decide everything at the state level.

Hmm, I probably would stay home that election. I disagree with Jen on the economic issues and wouldn't vote for an outspoken atheist or a radical feminist, much less both, but I disagree Barry on the social issues, and wouldn't vote for someone who files fraudulent tax returns and gets paid a ton of money to represent working-class people.

Jennifer Government. I prefer me a liberal. Pro LGBT rights and Pro-Abortion is very important. The fact that she is atheist is also nice.

Why are you against having an atheistic president or someone who vouches for equal rights for women?

Probably that Barry fellow as the way I figure it his wrong ideas would be softened by the system or outright blocked whilst Jenny G doesn't have any ideas beyond blogging.

Same.

I don't like the other choice so much, but hey, lesser evil. Still though, I think I would for this combinations.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.
