Pokémon - Ultima Tournament (OOC/CLOSED)

Postby The Union of Myanmar » Sun Mar 11, 2012 9:15 pm

IC Thread: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=168891

OOC Info
I've recently become very interested in Pokémon again. It was a huge part of my childhood more than a decade ago, and I haven't been keeping up with the series or game for a while now (Everything past Gen II is a jumble for me). I'd love to have a Co-OP who knows the Pokémon Universe well. Bulbepedia is useful for me, but somebody who is more familiar with Pokémon would be more qualified to lead this RP. Anyways, this RP will be similar to the games, though it takes place in a fan-made region called Toho. Instead of 3 starter Pokemon to choose from, you can pick from a selection of 17 (one for each type). Players may travel/battle in groups (like Ash, Misty, Brock), etc... I haven't got all the details written yet as it is very late where I am, but I will post more information tomorrow. Do feel free to TG me or post suggestions on how to make this RP better.
Co-OPs: Phoenigetuzstha, SSTxReaper, TaQud

IC Intro (so far)
The Toho region was, for many millenia, unique for its complete lack of Pokémon that avoided it at all times. Thousands of years ago, a massive object crashed into the continent and created a large crater. After the strange series of earthquakes and volcanic activity that followed the impact, the continent split into six islands that now surround the crater. For centuries, humans have attempted to reach the fabled center of the crater, but none have survived the journey. Until one hundred years ago, Pokémon have mysteriously avoided the Toho region altogether.

In the last century, Pokémon have begun an unexplainable migration to Toho in large numbers. Stranger yet, enormous deformed Pokémon have been spotted around Toho’s three legendary mountains. Scientists and Pokéologists believe that these ‘deformed’ Pokémon are native to Toho and are originating from somewhere deep below the region, possibly from a place near the object that crashed many years ago.

Now, most people do not spend their time searching for the legendary Pokémon. Instead, the Toho Region is now home to the Ultima Pokémon Tournament. The best trainers from the regions of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova have rushed to the Toho Region to participate in the annual Ultima Tournament where the famous trainer Ash Ketchum is said to be one of the eight gym leaders.

There are only a few spots left to join the tournament! Some trainers are participating just to win the tournament. Others are joining to experience life in Toho, and the opportunity to find the legendary Pokémon. However, from the depths of its failure, a young man and his criminal syndicate will make a mark during the Ultima Tournament to dash the contestants’ hopes, and put fear in its place...

BLUE Square = Route Gate or Other Location
ORANGE/BLUE = Route
Italicized Name = Home to Gym Leader

Cities and Towns
(Bolded names are RP'ed by the OP and Co-OPs. Full interactions with all other characters may be RP'ed by trainers.)
Image
It is a simple little town with very little to do. All Ultima Tournament contestants begin their journey in Toho from here and are welcome to stay in either the Contestants Dorm or the Rivals Dorm (there is no fundamental distinction between the two). It is home to Professor Pine and her lab. Since trainers have already chosen their starter Pokémon, a visit to Professor Pine is not necessary, although she wouldn't mind a nice chat about her work and Toho.
Image
San Dialga, named after a legendary Pokémon, is a modest, coastal fishing city covered by fog. It's a normal town, with the exception of a Pokémon Gym owned by Doc Brown who specializes in Normal-type Pokémon. Trainers are encouraged to challenge at the San Dialga Normal Gym first before exploring the rest of Toho. Like every town and city in Toho, San Dialga has a Pokémart and Poké Center where you can stock up and heal injured Pokémon. Pokémon may also be stored digitally at Pokémon Center PC's. San Dialga is known for its Day Care Center owned by the elderly couple Carl and Ellie. Stop by if you want some tips on how to raise your new Pokémon. They've been known to give away special eggs to trainers! Talk to some of the fishermen. Fisherman Ralph can give his expert tips on how to catch water Pokémon. Trainers can reach the city by small boats that leave from Route 1, or they can use a Pokémon that knows Surf.
Image
Still regarded as tribal savages, the people of Oakville are undoubtedly the best in Toho when it comes to training Grass and Bug type Pokémon. It's close proximity to Mt. Blizzaga makes Oakville a prime spot for staging expeditions into the colossal mountain where many Oakvillians hope to catch a glimpse of one fabled legendary Pokémon that is said to reside deep within the mountain. Oakville itself is a village that does not completely rely on modern day technology. Its Pokémon Center is said to be the most unreliable in Toho due to very old PCs. Trainers complain of improperly healed or lost Pokémon. Locals live in tree-houses and spend their days coexisting with their Pokémon, none of which are caught. Trainers should wary of locals since most frown upon the use of Pokéballs and believe that Pokémon should be free. Trainers may avoid Poh Poh who openly hates Pokémon trainers, although battling with him and "his" Pokémon may earn his respect. Leilani is the leader of the village's Gym. Her upbeat, laid-back personality should not fool you! Her skills are as sharp as Victreebel's Razor Leaf.
Image
Ventria is a fairly large Town known for being the first large settlement in Toho. Though no Gym Leader resides here, an old gym is available for trainers to arrange practice battles with another trainer; Ultima Tournament officials will offer advice and critique on each trainers' technique. The Walrein Co. has oddly been collecting ice-type Pokémon to capture the elusive shiny Glooms at the Temple of Gloom two routes away. The company's activities might be connected to Pokémon theft near Ceesault City, although the company CEO Mack Frost claims he is capturing only wild ice Pokémon. Talking to Frost inside the company warehouse might shed a light on the situation. The Ultima Tournament Committee does not condone abuse of Pokémon, and would greatly appreciate & reward the efforts of any trainer who can prove or disprove Frost's claim. Trainers may leave one of their Pokémon in the care of Sally & May who run a day care center; the two sisters will take good care of your Pokémon, making them evolve quickly though with less moves than they would normally learn! You might just be able to enter the exclusive Blizzara Club, but recently it hasn't been letting new people in after some club trainers had their Pokéballs stolen. You could talk to Nikolas who is the door guard to the Blizzara Club. He might just let you in to meet Sergei the club leader. Check out the Ventria Library to read up on some Pokémon mythology.
Image
It is a port city that is bisected by a canal which is crossed by a small drawbridge. It has an air of exotic and foreign culture. Small boats allow trainers to travel along Route 15, unless trainers have a Pokémon that knows the Surf ability. The Ceesault Gym is home to Norris, the master of Fighting-type Pokémon in Toho. Recently, a young man named Silver has bought a derelict manor house. Ever since his arrival, Pokémon have been stolen from their trainers. Although local authorities have no firm evidence against Silver, Ultima Tournament contestants are suggested to stay away. However, the Ceesault police chief Officer Jenny is willing to give a reward to whoever can find the Pokémon thieves.
Image
Doremi is home to not one, but two Gyms both specializing in Fire & Water type Pokémon. The Yin and Yang twins could not decide on which type of Gym to lead, and so they opened two allowing two trainers to challenge them simultaneously. Yin is said to favor water Pokémon while her sister tends to use more fire-types. Choose gyms carefully. Trainers only need to defeat one of the sisters to earn an Ultima badge. Aside from gym battles, trainers can visit the Silph Co. Headquarters—an 11 story skyscraper. Scientists may challenge trainers inside the building to test their new Pokémon strategies. Talk with Scientists Roselin and Frank to keep updated with Silph Co's technological breakthroughs. You never know, they may want you to test out a new Pokéball or item! For fun, head to Mr. Psychic's home to talk with Mr. Psychic who's very skilled with teaching Pokémon psychic-type moves. Head on over to the Art Museum for relaxation; a chat with Sketch the curator might help you understand the works of art.
Image
The city is home to a unique Trainer Gym where trainers may arrange battles with each other in various simulated environments (basic, rocky, water, jungle, ice, fire). Mincinno Casino is the smaller version of Cinccino Casino at Inai City. It's a place for gambling of course. Pokémon can raise their happiness here. The MagneTrain can take you to Inai City, but be sure to talk to Scientist Hawking. He's studying the meteors that just crash landed in Sinnibar last week! Trainers can go to Sinnibar via the MagneTrain or routes 35 and 30.
Image
Fuzia, the Gym leader of Inai, helps power the city with her electric-type Pokémon. Neon lights energize the night-life in Inai. The Hoothooters nightclub is open to all ages and is a place for trainers of all ages to relax. It has recently been bought by a millionaire called Silver who usually comes by to the nightclub on Friday nights. Talk to Tezla or Kyle who seem to always be at Hoothooters. They know all the electrifying gossip in town. At the Cincinno Casino, trainers may gamble for prizes. Talk to Eddison for some game-coins and prizes. Voltorb's is essentially a Poké Mart, but store owner Bolt is willing to trade his Electrode. Drop off a Pokémon or two at the Day Care run by Freddy & Mack; they are known to make Pokémon more powerful than those raised at the Day Care in Ventria Town, but they take much longer to do so. The MagneTrain can take you to Sinnibar City.
Image
Ever since the Trayan Tourist Co. closed off the Crater Gate, locals and tourists have not been able to arrange for official expeditions to find the impacted meteor. Trainers are suggested to stay away from any expedition to the center of the crater lake, but they may try to convince Sailor Seymour at the Trayan Tours Co. building to give them a boat ride out to crater lake. Other than that, Traya is simply another port city with very little to do. Expect much more activity when Trayan Tours decides to reopen Crater Gate... IF it decides to reopen it. Officer Jenny at the Poké Center has a job for trainers interested in finding some fugitives near Dark Cave. Trainers may reach Traya via routes 28 and 29.
Image
Norbert the Dragon Keeper is the Gym Leader of this city. You guessed it, his specialty is dragon Pokémon. He loves them so much, he dresses up as a Dragonite all day. The Lighthouse has recently become overrun with Gastly. It will take a while for them to go away, but it's a great opportunity for trainers to catch one! Norbert hates ghost Pokémon and is too afraid to head into the Lighthouse to clear them out. Maybe asking the help of somebody experienced with ghost Pokémon may help? Norbert will greatly reward the trainer who takes care of the Gastly. A Day Care Center here will look after your Pokémon. Annie and Serkus will trade one of their Horsea for a Pokémon they want. Access Korellian City via route 44.
Image
Rouge Town is home to Madame Leota, the Gym Leader who specializes in ghost and psychic types. She is known to have psychic & telepathic abilities that rival the abilities of her ghoulish Pokémon. Leota is a distant relative of Sabrina, the psychic gym leader from Kanto. Visit the Fortuneteller's House for predictions of the future and to see if he can predict your odds of winning (though many believe that he just judges your odds based on your Pokémon). Trainers can arrive at Rouge Town through routes 25 and 26.
Image
Futhark Town is simply a place for Ultima Tournament contestants to rest. A seclusive couple known simply as "JJ" or the "JJ Couple" live here. They never answer their door for anyone. Neighbors do not like the JJs. Ever since their arrival, neighbors have been complaining of nighttime home break-ins, though nothing has yet to be stolen. You can go to Futhark town via routes 20 and 21.
Image
The only city on its island, Gamaro is home to world renowned Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum, the Gym Leader here. He specializes in, well, nothing! And that's why Ultima Tournament contestants have been talking about him the most. Trainers never know what to expect from Ash! While many welcome Ash as a Gym Leader, others object saying that he's too young. His gym battle track record, however, is very strong and most trainers learn much from battling the young boy. Aside from the talk of the town, Garamo is where many stock up and rest before adventuring into Shiny Cave. Do you regret teaching your Pokémon a move? Visit the Move Remover's house. She's guaranteed to make your Pokémon forget a move! Go to the Contest Hall for some non-combat competition. Contest Hall Judges will decide if your Pokémon is the coolest, toughest, smartest, cutest, or most beautiful! If you want a heads-up on any Gym Leader in Toho, go to the Poké Trainer Fan Club and talk with Starr or Ringo. Garamo City can be reached via route 21 or the Shiny Cave.

Special Locations
Image
One of the three mystical mountains of Toho, Mt. Firaga is now home to a legendary fire Pokémon. The mountain is, more specifically, an active volcano. Trainers can access it through routes 18, 19 and 20. Be careful! Many dangerous Pokémon live both inside and outside the mountain, and the mountain itself may prove more perilous than the Pokémon that call it home. A bright but cold magma-like liquid flows along a network of "rivers" inside the caves of Mt. Firaga; because of this, trainers do not need to bring flashlights or a Pokémon that knows Flash. The cold liquid continuously spews out of the mountain, but cools rapidly before reaching any major routes and settlements. Contact with it causes an intense burning sensation, but no physical harm.
Image
One of the three mystical mountains of Toho, Mt. Blizzaga is now home to a legendary ice Pokémon. Trainers can access it through routes 10 and 11. Be careful! Many dangerous Pokémon live both inside and outside the mountain. A stream of glowing water flows inside the caves of Mt. Blizzaga; trainers do not need to bring flashlights or a Pokémon that knows Flash.
Image
One of the three mystical mountains of Toho, Mt. Thundaga is now home to a legendary electric Pokémon. The mountain is practically a lightening rod, drawing lightning to its top. Trainers can access it through routes 33 and 34. Many dangerous Pokémon live both inside and outside the mountain. Trainers are recommended to not explore the mountaintop due to risk of lightning strikes; trainers are however not prohibited from exploring the entire mountain. Narrow streams of highly-charged water flows within the mountain; trainers should not fall in lest they wish to be electrocuted. Trainers do not need to bring flashlights or a Pokémon that knows Flash.
Image
This is the location of Ultima Stadium, where the final matches of the Ultima Tournament will be held. At the peak of the mountain sits one of the most advanced Pokémon Stadiums in all the six regions. It is closed off until the Elite Four are determined.
Image
Trainers may enter the Dark Cave via routes 31, 32 and 42. A Pokémon with Flash is required to properly navigate the cave, though trainers may blindly explore the cave in pitch-black darkness. Nothing too special about this cave, although two suspicious people have been seen going in and out of the cave. Talking to Officer Jenny from Traya Town may give you some leads to their identities.
Image
Despite its name, the Shiny Cave is even darker than the Dark Cave. It is much larger and is home to one highly elusive shiny Pokémon hence the cave's name. Trainers are recommended to explore the caves using a Pokémon that knows Flash.
Image
A giant lake where tourists swim in the summer and ski in the winter, Cold Springs is where a Phione and a Manaphy have found themselves trapped. It seems the only way to free them is to catch them with a Pokéball. Talk with Blake Hato for tips on how to catch Phione or Manaphy or both! Cold Springs is directly beside Korellian City
Image
Despite its icy exterior, a lush oasis of plants grow deep in the depths of the temple. The entire temple complex is overrun by Oddish, Gloom and the rare Vileplums. The all seem to be protecting a single shiny Bulbasaur. Access via route 13.
Image
Once was a temple to worship Mt. Firaga, the place is full of Shroomish, Foongi, Brelooms and Amoongi. The fires outside and inside the temple are never go out, and they provide a very humid environment for its inhabitant Pokémon to thrive in. It is believed that the source of the "eternal" flames is a shiny Charmander that sleeps in the deepest chamber of the complex. Access via route 38.

IC Tournament Rules
1. Trainers may choose one of the seventeen Starter Pokémon.
2. Trainers may carry up to six Pokémon with them at any time. Access a PC at Pokémon Centers to switch Pokémon.
3. Only one Pokémon per location may be caught.
4. Trainers may trade Pokémon amongst each other.
5. Trainers may challenge Gym Leaders in any order.
6. The first four trainers to acquire all eight Gym Badges will be the Toho region's Elite Four.
7. The Elite Four will battle each other in a group tournament to decide the winner of the Ultima Tournament.
8. Trainers may battle with each other anywhere. Please do not disturb the locals and damage their property.
9. All Gym Battles will be three rounds. Trainers need to defeat three of the Gym Leader's Pokémon to earn an Ultima Badge.
— Once you beat your 4th Gym Leader, any Gym challenge after that is a full 6 Pokémon battle instead of a 3 Pokémon battle.

OOC Tournament Rules/Things-to-know
1. Feel free to RP interactions with NPC's (locals or those generic trainers on routes). I, along with anyone interested in being a Co-OP, may RP locals and random trainers on routes. You may fully RP the interactions/battle between NPCs and your character.
2. No godmodding attacks, abilities, leveling up.
3. I have 17 starter Pokémon to choose from. It's a first come, first serve basis.
4. I will RP the Gym Leaders.
5. Please give detailed posts. Like the concurrent Pokémon RP, I do not require long posts but I would appreciate detailed ones.
6. Refer to the Generation V move lists for each Pokémon.
7. Unlike the game, certain Pokémon do not need to be traded, do not need to be in a certain location and do not need to be holding special items to evolve. Pokémon that evolve using evolutionary stones will still need to evolve using Evolutionary stones (one will be handed out by each Gym Leader; each trainer will eventually get a total of eight out of the possible ten stones).
8. Co-OPs may accept/deny applications to join the RP.
9. Trainers may opt to do gym battles or any battle using the [u=http://pokemon-online.eu/]Pokémon Online - Battle Simulator[/u] (See below).
10. Have fun!

Ultima Pokémon Tournament Trainers
Image
As a young boy, Ko collected plenty of Bug Pokémon in the Kanto Region before growing up in Johto. An excellent student, Ko went on to earn a doctoral degree on Poké-Medical Care. As part of his research, Dr. Ko has joined the Ultima Tournament to study the developmental & evolutionary differences between trained and wild Pokémon.
Image
Kenneth Jamison was born in Kanto region but moved to Hoenn when his father got a job at the Petalburg City gym. He spent some time fighting in gyms in Hoenn(and considered joining Team Magma for a short while) with a Blaziken, Mightyena, and Manectric, but left Littleroot for Toho(specifically, Bayshore Town) to fight Pokemon in a new environment. He left his three prized Pokemon back in Hoenn with his mother, hoping to start entirely anew in Toho. Knowing he has beaten some of the gym leaders in Hoenn, he is confident that, with some training, he can take his new Pokemon and win the Ultima Tournament.
Image
Alexis Damați is a coordinator from Lilycove City. She had went round the Hoenn region, collecting ribbons, and also badges, to increase her prestige and standing with the other contestants. She successfully obtained all but the penultimate ribbon in Hoenn, therefore, she didn't qualify for the Grand Festival. Deflated, she went home. Now, 2 years older, Alexis wants a new challenge, and so, looking over her old badge collection, has decided to enter the Ultima League and travels to Toho.
Image
Trent originally is from the Johto Region. He won the elite four there and then went to the Hoenn Leauge. After beating all eight gyms there he challange the elite four as well and defeated them too. When he was leaving for the Toho Region he accidently caught a Bagon while training.

Comes from a long line of Johto trainers whom wait in the water for the passing by trainer. He hates the idea of waiting in the water and refuses to do so to follow his dream of becoming a trainer. He traveled to Toho to escape his insane father trying to force him to follow tradition.
Image
Grew up in the Kanto region, and aspired to be a pokemon trainer since childhood. Both his mother and father were fairly successful trainers in their own right, each managing to defeat two of the Elite Four. As their child, Gale managed to beat the Elite Four in Kanto, then decided to move on to a new region to further his skills as a trainer. And so he moved to Toho. With him he brought his Nidoran♂, which was a child between his father's Nidoking and his mother's Nidoqueen.
Image
A Kanto native whose father ran the safari zone and got him the Pokémon of his dreams; Ryhorn. His family moved after his father was threatened by thugs for a Dratini.
Image
He has always dreamed of getting every badge in the Pokemon world, so far he his doing well, his next target is the Toho region.
Image
His father a successful trainer in the Unova region, reaching the Elite 4, Arc was given a privileged background. At the age of 8, his mother died, and that changed him. His busy father led him to spend a lot of time with his Pokemon, and forged an incredibly close bond with his Pidgey. Finding a majority of Unovan pokemon, and wishing to follow the latest developments in the Pokemon world, Arc chose to move to Toho, with his beloved Pidgey.
Image
Thorne grew up in Pastoria city with his father, Crasher Wake (OOC: I'm taking it Wake is his first name and Crasher is more of a title), leaving Pastoria with his Zubat, Thorne collected all eight Sinnoh badges, beating the Elite four there however he lost to the champion. Heading off to Unova, Thorne was determined to become Champion, once again, and still with his trusted partner Crobat he conquered the gyms and Elite four of Unova, winning against Alder on the last pokemon, Thorne held the position of Champion for nine months. Exhausted Thorne returned to Pastoria, hearing of Ultima League Thorne headed off, for once leaving Crobat behind, along with the rest of his team, under the care of his father, letting them live in the Pastoria Marsh. As Thorne travelled to Canalclave to catch the ferry to the Toho region he brefriended and caught a Venipede who had been released by its previous trainer, confident with poison type pokemon after training Crobat for several years Thorne vowed that with Venipede he would win the Ultima League.
Image
Johnathan Black has a mysterious past, shrouded with darkness.
Image
Frank is originally from the Hoenn region, where he earned all 8 badges. Wanting a new challenge, he has now decided to take on Toho.
Image
Found a shieldon in the wild and has started to train to beat all the gym leaders.
I am origionally from the Johto region, but I have visited all the other regions. Just recently I have been to the Unova Region but I left my Pokemon with the Gym Leader Drayden because he seemed as though he was strong enough to handle my pokemon. I defeated the Indigo Leauge and It was a breeze. I would enjoy to defeat this whole region. I wear a pair of Bootcut Jeans, I have Brown hair, blue eyes, and a T-Shirt. I have an attatchment onto my shirts that hold my pokemon. After My pokemon and I enjoy this region I plan to go back and get all my pokemon to settle down in one of the legendary mountains. That is my main goal, to catch the deformed pokemon.

Good idea you have there, a few questions though:
- Are these deformed Pokemon fabricated legendaries of your own imagination? (Becasue thats a real no-no for me)
- I wouldn't mind being co-op if you'd like, however I'm on my phone so can't fill out the app.
- The starter Pokemon are a bit varied in strength though don't you think? (ie. wurmple ends up with a base stat of 395 or something while Bagon and Dieno end up with 600).

I'm not sure which to choose, Poliwag or Wurmple....

- The starter Pokemon are a bit varied in strength though don't you think? (ie. wurmple ends up with a base stat of 395 or something while Bagon and Dieno end up with 600).

The deformed Pokémon are what the locals call them. They're really just three of the Legendary Pokémon from the series. They emerge from the three elemental islands Mt. Blizzaga, Mt. Firaga and Mt. Thundaga and they're respectively Ice, Fire and Electric half-types. Professor Pine from the Toho Region believes they're actually Legendary Pokémon from the myths of one of the other five regions.

I will check out the starter Pokémons' final evolution base states again and make the necessary changes. How about the Yanma or Venipede evolution line? I originally put down Wurmple because it's my favorite Bug pokemon

Thank you for your interest and help with the RP. You've brought up very good points.

Cool, I've changed the Bug Pokémon to Venipede since it's final evolution will have a better chance against that of Deino, etc.

PENDING
Reason: I would accept, but Last Resort is too powerful for a starter Pokémon. I'll let Toxic slide and let you have it. Refer to Eevee's Generation V move list for another move other than Last Resort http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/ ... eveling_up

So far, the Co-OPs are you and Phoenigetuzstha. The main jobs (in order of importance) would be to check for godmodding, RP as Gym Leaders (only if you feel like it), and accept/deny applications to join this RP.
