The LMAV (Lightweight Multi-Role Assualt Vehicle) is a hybrid combat vehicle design created originally for the Panzermmee Army. Its design is split into several major overlays that represent a common objective, in which is to fulfill the roles of both an Armored Personnel Carrier, Infantry Fighting Vehicle, and Amphibious Fighting Vehicle. The projects intentions are to further extend the rapid deployment role to more aspects of land based vehicles.

At the birth of Praefortis in 1892, a mission initially geared to producing systems limited to battle rifles for the fighting force of Panzermmee civilians, the introduction of armoured vehicles in the early 1920's introduced an entirely new spectrum of warfare for all competitors and militaries scattered across the globe. By that time, it was apparent that the creation of mobile, protected, and armed vehicle could provide something more of a support unit for infantry. Tanks, Self-Propelled Artillery, and Anti-Air units are all products of a common base system. This is the creation of armored and self-sustainable weapons systems for the protection of infantry. The Sd.Kfz. 171 Ausf B. 'Coyoto' [Coy' - int] is the official Main Battle Tank of Panzermmee, developed by Venix Industries. Replacing the original 'Black Boar', the Coyoto was designed as a modernization model of its father, the Panther.

Panther was the Main Battle Tank of Panzermmee for a respective frame of 45 years. It's large cumbersome size, and painfully extensive weight were made up for in the field by the power of the 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 barrel, and hull thickness of over 80 mm. Its lack of agility was a mere irritation as the name wasn't spoiled, and the Panther was a nightmare when spotted by enemy troops.

During the follow-up years of the mid and late 1900's (1950-1990), when the Economy had finally been restored to its glory, the Panther was stored and preserved for future conflicts, while Panzermmee's Naval and Aerial systems were put into overhaul. It's victorious and successful purges were overestimated, and the modernization of Panzermmee Land Systems were nearly forgotten.

When Carloso went into a state of War in 1989, and its military was shattered, Panzermmee aided with Military action. Well over 1,000 Panthers were retrieved and thrown into the urban environment of wartorn Carloso, expected to compete with systems of the modern age. First contact was made days after deployment, and the first defeat for Panzermmee was recorded, with nearly 23 losses. Again, Panthers were ordered into modern battlefields, and again, they suffered heavy casualties. The crews were losing morale and refused to continue operations against a force of such higher calibur.

Thus work began on a newer and heavily modified version of the Panther in 1990. Panzermmee's Army Division ordered that an MBT with a maximum weight of 62 tons, and armor thickness similar to the Western model 'Abrams' be met, while including a design similar to the Pz.JApk 9 Ausf 1. Production began, and a set of Prototypes were created almost immediately. Type 1, Type 4, and Type 9 were different configurations of the Panther, all selected from a set of 6. However, the Type 9 was lacking the layout of its counterpart, the Pz.JApk 9 Ausf 1. Instead, it had a standalone turret, and armor similar to the Russian T-90, a steel-composite-reactive blend of varying metals. Venix convinced officials to let it compete despite the misconceptions, and so the Type 9 was vouched into testing.

Testing in Castanaea commenced in January of 1991, which consisted of;

Appalled at the success and surpassing of the other models by Type 9, the Army requested a batch of Type 9's be fitted with 105mm Royal Ordnance L7A3 guns, after observing their success within the British Army. They also requested (2) 7.62 mm MG 3 Secondary Machine-guns [Mounted on the commanders hatch, and beside the main-barrel] be equipped, and a replacement MTU MB 838 CaM 500 - 10-cylinder - Multi-Fuel Engine. The decision to keep the Armor rose, but was rejected.

In the next year [1992], the Type 9 was deemed Sd.Kfz. 170 Ausf A. 'Tigris'. The Army received their order of 150 Tigris', and immediately shipped them into Carloso to combat the still-arising rebellion. After their previous departure, the war had been shifted into the open fields, and dense forests of Carloso, as opposed to their compacted and urban counterparts. Tigris first made contact against a set of captured T-72 MBT's, and were successful. However, when they began to chase down the retreating armor, they were outrun. As victory began to pave-way to progress, Infantry Divisions were constantly having to wait up for their Armored support. They were even surpassed by the Artillery. During Operation Finakison, Infantry divisions sustained heavy loses when they had to combat several waves of reinforcements because the flanking Tigris' ran out of fuel when trying to maneuver through a boggy swamp.

While the problem of sufficient armor and armament had been solved, maneuverability had not. Venix began to modify the Tigris by ridding of the Steel-Composite Reactive armor, and adding 3rd Generation Composite Armor (Plastic and Ceramic Component). They then replaced the engine with an MTU MB 873 Ka-501 Diesel Engine, with a 317 gallon fuel capacity. Further extensions include,

The speed of the new prototype (Now Type 10) was now 72km/h, and included an Operational Range of 700 km. The new 120mm barrel allowed for targeting at up to 8,000 meters, and increased PSL (Penetration Success Levels) by nearly 75%.

Now having another prototype, the Army immediately bought 50 Type 10's, which were named Sd.Kfz. 171 Ausf B. 'Coyoto', and shipped them into Carloso as the third and final deployment. Their introduction into the field satisfied tank crews, and raised the infantry morale. Progress levels tripled, and the Army quickly cornered the Carolosian rebels. A suitable replacement for the Panther had been found.

Armament

The main armament of the Coyoto is the 120mm Vk.1.MG Smoothbore gun, which is an extensively effective barrel when used correctly.

Before the final decision to initiate the Vk.1.MG into service, the Vk.2.MG was the main armament of the Coyoto. While the Vk.2.MG is effective, it's shorter length and caliber limit the damage output potential of the tank. Thus, research for a better tank gun began.

At about the same time, Russian Tanks were beginning to emerge and dominate the modern battlefield; most notable, the T-90 MBT. The fear of the Russian tank wasn't in its armament; it was in its defense. The 5-layer, chemical and steel-aluminum composition of its hull was a nightmare. Only HEAT rounds at ranges of 750 meters or less were effective. This was a problem.

However, Panzermmee and Facist-Germania began a joint-operation in developing an effective tank barrel capable of penetrating the armor of modern MBT's. It's birth in 1992 was successful, and immediately, a new gun was fitted for Coyoto. It was nearly 4 feet longer, and weighed 2,00 pounds more than its older counter-part, the Vk.2.MG. However, its muzzle velocity was nearly doubled to 1,750 m/s, and a new variety of ammunition was available; most notably, the PzGra. 34 Smart Shell.

The [Panzergranate 34] Smart Shell is originally a 155mm barrel launched artillery munition, but was recently modified by the Panzermmee Army to fit the Vk.1.MG. Its creation was in response to the arising of the Panzarvagn series by Karlberg Industries, and the implementation of the Vk.1.MG into some Western Nations.

During the Carlosian Civil War, Panzermmee Artillery units used the PzGra. against captured T-70 tanks, and were proved extremely effective. The top armor of MBT's weren't as thick as the frontal or side sections of the hull, and so a penetration ratio of 9:10:11 is very common.

Operation

The round is fired and flies on a short, straight path before arcing upward to gain height, with a range of up to 12,000 meters.

A set of thermal sensors and imaging follow a pre-determined course set by the targeting system of Coyote before launch. It checks that the course is correct 1,500 times p/s. When the correct coordinates have been reached, the shell dispels the submunitions, which begin to parachute down and verify the target.

When the target has been verified by the submunitions, it detonates its explosive payload and creates an explosively formed projectile, which strikes the turret with massive amounts of kinetic energy; wounding and/or killing the crew and likely hitting the ammunitions compartment.

The Pz.MG3 APADS (Anti-Personnel Armor Defense System) is the secondary armament of Coyoto, and is an effective munitions system capable of warding off lightly armored vehicles and infantry. Its rapid firing system is capable of lodging rounds at up to 1200 p/m, at ranges of over 1,000 meters.

Pz.MG3 is mounted on a 360^o rotating mount, capable of −20 to +60 degree elevation. Its gyro-stabilized, steel hard-shell is fitted with direct links and configurations to the interior of Coyoto, allowing for complete operation by the commander within the safety of the tank.

The Pz.MG3 was meant to become a system capable of eliminating the risk of making the commander appear outside of the safety of the tank, by allowing for complete operation of an effective weapons system, visibility of the tanks surroundings, the designated route and the current objective issued by a Commander miles away. 3 cameras fitted around the Pz.MG3 send live links in Thermal, Real-Time, and Topographic to the commander, which allow for quick and safe target elimination.

The electronic target-acquiring system that's built into the Pz.MG3 works with the current location and status of surrounding friendly forces, to effectively mark and predispose of enemy armor and infantry before they become a threat to the tank, or surrounding friendly forces.

Coyoto recieve's transmissions every .0089 seconds through an internal C3 system that actively displays the locations of objectives/units, danger areas (levels), specific routes and roadways, and the location of the tank in relation to its nearest surroundings. C3 also displays the vision of nearby units on one of the 3 LED touchscreens, that can select specific units based on their combat situation or relative distance to Coyoto. This is possible due to Panzermmee's implementation of cameras on infantry and vehicles to help strengthen connectivity and situational awareness, by allowing support units (or nearby units) to direct added firepower or reinforcement to enemy positions located by the helmet-mounted camera.

The remnants of the C3 system belong to the external cameras located around the turret and hull of the tank. The second touchscreen houses these displays, and send visual feeds to Pz.MG3 to immediately identify and target multiple threats not seen directly by the commander. If the commander is wounded, the Pz.MG3 can be switched to automation mode, which switches control of the Pz.MG3 to the integrated fire-control system of the weapons system, so it can simultaneously engage targets without manual operation. This function, however, lowers the power of the tanks battery life, and so the system has an automatic power off phase after 4 hours of electronic operation.

Protection

The body of Coyoto is coated in 3^rd Generation Composite-Layered Armor, with a 6-layer guidance layout. Additional slat armor has been added to the turrets frontal and lateral surfaces, and additional plating on the lower hull prevent mine/IED damage.

The first layer is comprised of a ceramic, hardened rubber to begin the process of slowing down the projectile, and transferring its heat around the rest of the tank so that the buildup of kinetic energy cannot be used to penetrate the remaining layers.

The second and third layers are a Tungsten and Plastic Filler with Ceramic Component. They amass the breakdown of the projectile, and are essentially the linemen of the defense. Their soft-layered, cool surfaces force the projectile to gather energy to prevent the sudden collapse of metals within the surface, and thus decreases the speed significantly by the projectiles gradual increase in radius to account for the forces exerted by the counteraction of the two materials.

The fourth and fifth layers are a high-hardness steel that absorb the final impact of the projectile, which by then, has had a significant decrease in weight and speed. The kinetic energy will have dispelled in both the rubber, and plastic, which leaves the armor-piercing division of the round useless, as its only source of credibility comes from the reliance upon energy built-up as the round first makes contact with the target. However, because the first layer that made contact was not a hard-surface material, the projectile wasn't able to retain a higher mass of energy, and its source of power was dispelled before real contact could be made.

The final layer is spall liner, which prevents fragments that managed to make it through the hardened steel to enter the tank, and cause any physical injury or damage. The Spall liner also muffles the noise of the impact to eliminate the risk of spontaneous deafening.

The electronic countermeasures and protection systems of Coyoto consist of,

TROPHY System

The most unique feature of Coyotos' defensive layout is its integration of electronic countermeasures, and the use of the Mitengranate Anti-Aliasing Target Elimination System, or AATE. Mitengranate is an advanced targeting-disruption system used to deny the use of IR missiles, or other types of laser-guided range finding missiles that rely on automated targeting of heat signature.

Mitengranate is completely automated, and its activation occurs when the tank is readied. When a lock-on is detected, Mitengrante captures the targeting signal and muddles it by making the signature of the tank on the enemy's radar seem to be disappearing, moving, or as multiple signatures. This forces the enemy to use manual targeting when firing.

Mobility

The Coyoto is propelled by the MTU MB 873 diesel engine, which provides 1,500 PS (1,103 kW) of engine output. The MTU MB 873 diesel engine is a four-stroke, 47.6 liter, 12-cylinder multi-fuel, exhaust turbo-charged, liquid-cooled engine, which has an estimated fuel consumption rate of around 300 liters per 100 km on roads and 500 liters per 100 km across country, and is coupled to the Renk HSWL 354 gear and brake system.

The Renk HSWL 354 transmission has 4 forward, 2 reverse gears with a torque converter and is completely automatic, with the driver selecting the range. The tank has 4 fuel tanks, which have a total capacity of approximately 1,160 liters, giving a maximum road range of about 500 km. The propulsion pack is capable of driving Coyoto to a top road speed of 72 km/h, and top reverse is 31 km/h. The power pack can be changed in the field in 35 minutes. The engine and transmission are separated from the crew compartment through a fireproof bulkhead, which prevents the risk of crew injury during a blowout.

Coyoto has a torsion bar suspension, and has advanced friction dampers. The running gear consists of seven dual rubber-tired road wheels and four return rollers per side, with the idler wheel at the front and drive sprocket at the rear. The tracks are Diehl 570F tracks, with rubber-bashed end connectors, which have removable rubber pads and use 82 links on each track. For use in icy ground, up to 18 rubber pads can be replaced by the same number of grousers, which are stored in the vehicle's bow when not in use. The upper part of the tracks are covered with side skirts, with the first two road wheels and idler covered by an armoured skirt. Coyoto can also ford water up to 4 feet without preparation, and 13 feet with a snorkel.
