Davviskuvla (IC/See Sign-ups)

Postby Suurta-Osavaltio » Mon Feb 20, 2012 8:40 am

It was a nice -20°C at the Davviskuvla. These were perfect conditions for the foreign students to arrive in. Dean Paaltonen was preparing the main hall of the school along with several of the students. They hung the Suurta-Osavaltian flag and the crest of the school directly behind a raised podium at the head of the hall. The students set up benches for the entire student body. On the benches in the first two rows, a male student hung signs saying, Mihkkege, áidna vieris studeanta! These benches were reserved for the foreign students. Dean Paaltonen tapped his finger on the microphone attached to the podium, checking that it worked.

Meanwhile, outside, the survival teacher, Duvre Morotaja was setting up the outdoor reception. Like in the main hall, there were benches set up, with the same Mihkkege sign on the first two rows. The main difference, other than the outdoor reception area being in fact, outside, was that the teachers were all going to wait for the students at the outdoor reception. Also, there were tables piled with Suurta-Osavaltian food. Hopefully the foreign students would have large appetites. Suurta-Osavaltians love to eat.

At the entrance to the road leading to the Davviskuvla, students Mikkel Jaatinen and Saari Ursinen stood in their school uniforms. They wore coats on top though, due to the constantly cold weather. The cold was very dry. Mikkel laughed at the snow, steadily increasing the hazard of the road. "Saari, why are we standing here again? I'd rather go inside of Ukko's hall, with the warm cider." Saari laughed too, her ice blue eyes almost giving off a glow. "You know why, you neavri. Dean Paaltonen chose us. Clearly, he thinks that we can escort cars, with just our feet." The two students shared another laugh as they waited for the foreign students to arrive.

"It be freezing m'boy." McGregor, the Satanic priest said to Johann as he opened the door.
"Of course, its a wasteland. Time to meet... Oh hello there children." Johann said as the saw the two teens in the cold.

Arhis looked out the window of the car as it pulled to a stop, relishing the cold weather. It was like home, except the air was thick. For her, the smell of ice and winter winds were a wonderful reminder of home, staving off the longing that had slowly begun to build in the center of her chest. The car had been hired at the airport, so he was definitely used to driving in these conditions.

When she stepped out of the car and looked at the school building, she felt small and very far from home. The Imanalov' girl looked like no one near her--she'd worn the uniform, yes, but there was no exposed skin anywhere. Instead, a cowl and shrouding concealed her face and features, and all other bare places were covered by what looked almost like cloth bandages. She was not a tall figure, only a little bit past 1.5 meters in height. But she seemed very comfortable in this weather.

The language here was very different from her own, but she had studied with great focus. Unfortunately, nothing had been able to erase her accent and occasional struggle with syntax or grammar. But for all that, Arhis had high hopes.

"Meh, leave these children who cannot speak English." Johann said. "Take me to the school now, please."
"Ok, then. Bye children."
The car arrived at Davviskuvla.
"Oh, its painted white, like everything else here. Hello little girl, where are the computers? Is there even internet out here? Chinese food? At least there is snow. You are one of the students from another country coming here, are you not?" Johann asked Arhis hurriedly.

Arhis's head turned towards the man who spoke as quickly as a storm's rain falling upon the stones. "Peace," she said. Her voice was low and rasping with an odd melodic component. It was like someone singing, but without changing pitch. Most people found the voices of the Imanalov' very soothing. "Your words tangle. They do not hold clarity. All things will be made known soon."

If there was one thing she and her people were famous for, it was patience.

"Johann here is a hacker who is trained very well to take down the Scientologist and other bad websites, and he is really great with computers. My name is Ronald McGregor, head of the LaVeyan Satanic church in Wellboneland. I sense a deep calm in you, that took me my whole life to find in myself. I am here to drop off Johann, for he cant walk a mile without fucking something up."
Johann ignored McGregor, and commenced to make sculptures in the snow.
"I like this snow."

Kiernan jumped out of the car and onto the snow and had his usual smile. He was dressed lightly because where he lived in Konilid was quite cold, and -20 celsius was warm to him. He walked quickly over to three figures. One was hooded and was probably a girl, one was a boy who looked like he had just asked a question, and an older man who looked annoyed. He strolled up. "What are you guys talking about?" Kiernan said in an accent that sounded like a fusion of Irish and Canadian. His voice was deep, but was a bit soft.

Nicolás looked out the window his thoughts had been the same since he first stepped out of the plane. So much snow he had thought. He knew that it would be cold here, but he hadn't expected it to be this cold. Massul wasn't particularly known for getting to cold, and even for Tletl's mountains this was cold.

He stepped out of the car he wore the uniform underneath his wool knee high trench coat. He looked around the school, and noticed other foreigners around he went over to greet them after all they too were new here.

Nicolás was taken aback at how eager this boy was. Nevertheless, he answerd his question no need to bee rude he thought. "Yes I enjoy computers. I'm Nicolás by the way," he said raising his hand for a handshake.

"I'm cold too," he said as Johann continued to ask questions faster than Nicolás could anwswer. "I'm from Tletl," he finnally answered. he heard the man next to Johann say that Johann was smart. He thought to himself smart he may be but he might want to calm down others might be startled at his eagerness.

"I would like sausage." McGregor said hungrily.

Ariana couldn't believe how cold it was. There were few places in New Edom that got that cold--now and then it did in Etruria Majora, way up north. She had been advised to bring warm clothing and so she had gloves, a very well made black wool coat, a scarf, and ski boots on. She waved to the students there to greet her; she was rather tentative and casual about this. There were a bunch of other foreigners here, including some talking non stop, one who looked like a Nalayan or Altak or something. She wasn't alone, so that part at least wasn't a lie. It had taken a bit of coercion on the part of her mother and father to get her here. She was torn between apprehension and relief, between frustration and curiosity. If she had not given in, she might have had to run away from home--she might have joined one of the Anarchist communes being formed. But she wanted to be a scientist when she was an adult--and that had been the straw that broke the camel's back. They wouldn't teach her science in a commune. With an inward sigh she stepped forward.

Part of Arhis was in awe of the amount of talking these people could do. And yet, what purpose or meaning did it have? The endless stream of words washed over the shrouded girl, a cacophony of chattering sounds. The Nalayan drew back to a safe distance, towards the New Edomite girl. The harshness of their language and speech grated on her ears. The quiet of snow falling was far more comfortable than to talk without purpose. She enjoyed being around others, however. Just their presence, whether loud or silent, was reassuring.
